Hi there, just found your channel! I live in Tarentum along the conemaugh line, and have NS programmed into my scanner. I hear C39 run every night, and have figured out most of the lingo too over the radio. I also found a site that has NS train numbers but I was wondering how do you know which train numbers it is you’re filming? Do they have a time table? I’ve been trying to figure out for years how to anticipate a train coming through the conemaugh but don’t know where to start. I’d also be happy to email or something too. Thanks and appreciate the content!
Hi! We live along the conemaugh too. We know the symbol of the trains by our scanner, and they call signals like Colfax. There is also a site that tracks trains, and it's called PT242. Trains usually come on the Conemaugh randomly, mainly at night or 5:30ish PM. Thank you for appreciating our content! You could possibly contact me on sites like here since I only use RUclips mainly.
@@W11GEOfficial Thanks for the info, yeah up here near the West Tarentum yard I only pickup the defect detector so very seldom do I hear the train call out its number unless there’s an issue, or like C39 calling in for its requests to occupy, etc. I belong to one of the fire departments here so I’ve been a bit of a scanner junkie for years. There’s also apps we can access as first responders to ID trains but it’s only for emergency purposes only. We’ve heard stories before of people who first downloaded these apps for ID, and they’re just playing around with them, next thing they know NS Police is showing up to their house to have a word with them…
No problem. I hear that defect detector, too, and have heard C39 asking permission to block the main for a bit. We are kinda of a scanner junkie too ourselves. I heard about those scanner apps, but I never knew you could talk on them illegally and get yourself in trouble with NS.
@@W11GEOfficial Sorry, let me clarify. There are apps that exist to listen to scanner audio, mainly PD/Fire/EMS, but someone around here is also running a 24/7 stream of the Conemaugh feed. These apps are for listening only and cannot transmit. However the app I’m referring to is designed to identify the contents of the rail cars, for the purpose of hazmats and if there’s an emergency. It’s a database and there’s no radio traffic or anything else. So heaven forbid there’s a derailment and we can’t get a hold of the crew right away, we can enter the cars ID number into this app and it tells us everything we need to know about the train. However it’s tracked so that’s how someone got a visit from NS PD. They downloaded it and wanted to just try it out to make sure it was working. Winds up entering dozens of cars into this app, and PD wanted to make sure they weren’t trying to plan something nefarious.
@@mrjohnson281able Ah. Didn't know there was a app to identify contents of rail cars. That person probably didn't know that they could track people entering car ID numbers so they decided to put many car numbers on the app without knowing. After they did that the NS PD must of been suspicious of them so they went to their house and asked questions so they didn't plan something nefarious. Anyways it's fine sometimes I misread some stuff.
Great catch. One of my favorite (and closest) places to watch trains
@@woods840 Thanks and cool!

@@RiverbendRailfanning thanks
