As a craftsman since 1993 of custom hand shaped surfboards, I have much appreciation the amount of time and detail in this art form, it is amazing on many levels. Thank you for this great time capsule of art.
I don’t posses the words to describe the level of talent this artist possesses or the stunning beauty she creates. I am envious of the beauty she is able to bring into this world.
It looks like such a meditative process, which also takes incredible patience, skill, and an excellent working knowledge of the clay medium. so beautifully demonstrated here .
Wow. That was some free class on how to do Bas Relief. Am in. I'm going to try my first piece. Thanks for the motivation. I won't be doing a master piece, like hers, but I will be having a lot of fun. I hope.
I can't find any words to describe such an amazing talent, BEAUTIFUL piece of art. and those 89 people who dislike this video,,,,,, REALLY??????? go get a life!!!
This is so beautiful! Patience would be a fine thing but you have such awesome talent and imagination! Thanks for sharing. I hope whoever acquires this piece passes it down from generation to generation.
Looking at different art ideas, for mindfulness. I already zentangle/doodle, 13 coloring books, sketch pads with pigma pens, painting. Looking for new avenues. And sure enough, the first video I watch, is what I want to do.. a zentangle design on clay :D very inspiring thank you much and God Bless
magnificently stunning!! you conveyed much explaining the proper ways a do things yet thru listening and watching you meticulously work this piece left me awestruck. your calm patient nature and definitely mad practicing skills were obvious but also was how much you honestly love what you are doing and teaching us. Thank You for inspiring me!
Beautiful, I used to work for Ken Mason Tile Company and really loved painting tiles, in between orders I would make my own designs on blank tiles and do portrait paintings of the other workers wives and girlfriends for them. I made fresco pieces of both of my dogs and a beautiful Mucha design that came from his unfinished works design book. I would love to have you as a teacher and learn how to do carvings such as yours they truly are amazing.
What a wonderful film! It really shows the patience and delicacy of the artist. Ms. Ellis does exquisite work! May you both have a wonderful, healthy and prosperous New Year! Best wishes, Dianna Diatz
Wow. very incredible detail!! I understand the amount of time and patience that go into such classy pieces of art , incredible share, Karen Wheeler, Vernon Canada
wow that's quite a lot of work. You make it seem easy, because your such an expert! I would love to see this type of work on something vintage, like a Christmas scene,or a beautiful formal garden. Keep up the great work!
omg that is amazing you are an amazing artist love the process and the finished piece. The flow of the hair and the intricate design are out of this world.
Thanks for the kind comment. I don’t know why some people put thumbs down either. You’d think that they’d be pleased to be able to watch a film for free!
A true inspiration within the craft world...thank you for showing your laborous process Victoria, what incredible beauty you create...simply wonderful xxxxx
Awesome work. The carving requires keen attention and lots of hardwork. I salute to all the artists........blessed are those who have such talents. U keep motivating us.....thank you
Excellent work !! Bravo ! I'm a woodworking person but just started pottery class on Mondays ..... thanks for the inspiration it's a very tactile relief indeed u must be proud ?
Bravo ... it's a marvel! Great finesse, beautiful pastel colors, and the face is so perfect !!! I am admiring ... I have done a lot of work of the earth, it is something that I like a lot and I know what it requires of patience and precision ... You are a great artist !!! !!!!
Vic had already made her drawing and prepared the clay slab when I started filming, but the carving process took two days and the glaze painting took another day to do. So if you include the preparation it was about four days in all, I think.
+Sofía Paolini Stikel Victoria covers sections of the clay with plastic to stop it drying out, and sprays it occasionally. I think she might use vinegar, but I'll have to check.
Victoria I was absolutely blown away by your art - your attention to detail - your patience - and your skill. Just wow!!! Many thanks ( P.S. great to know you're English!!!!)
this is a true masterpiece! I'm making small geo bas relief tiles and it's sooo hard! I've nearly pierced thru the tile, its so uneven and keeps drying out! it's very stressful but addictive so I'll keep going!! I wonder do you ever use water to smooth or simply tools? I've used a small wet brush where I've gone wonky a few times. you make it look so easy bravo madam :)
Hi do keep going it just takes time really to master the depth thing! I do use a damp sponge sometimes to take the sharp edges off but mostly just tools as too much smoothing can take the detail away. Don't let it stress you out the more you relax into it the freer your hand will be. Most of all enjoy!!
Victoria Ellis thank you for taking the time to reply. I've found your tips very helpful, I now use fountain pen/paper instead of attempting freehand and I'm pleased with my little sri yantra tile! let's hope it stays intact during firing!! I'll aim for pleasure rather than perfection as I'm sure you have spent many years honing your skills. any other videos on technique would be awesome thank you, elizabeth x
A pleasure, I'm afraid it is just time well certainly it was for me anyway as to another video not certain as would probably end up repeating myself! Good luck with the firing will keep my fingers crossed - always a scary time for me! x
put your clay , into a bag / a separation/ then a wet towel. place in a cold area/cool area when not working (the wet towel will act like a humidor keeping moisture in the immediate area, slowing/ stopping the clay loosing its moisture)
Lizzy krueger you can use low bake polymer clay I'm not sure if they make low temp glazes for use on that type of clay but you can paint the clay most people use the low bake polymer clay BECAUSE they don't have access to a ceramic kiln or they can't afford the cost of operation for the kiln
