To your caveat, Loved this tutorial however I followed your casual method of 5 but also skipped between the hooks by 5 and this allowed for a larger front pleat but I can also close my curtains! I tend to do this at night. They have more structural pleats which make them beautiful and functional. Now I will add a dowel with an eye hook to the inside hook to allow for a pull rod to open and close. Thanks again
Thank you!! Simple and quick application of pleat hooks. I used IKEA curtains and it took me ten minutes per panel to apply 10 hooks each to the built in drapery tape. I had no idea how to do this until I watched this video. So happy!
Great tutorial! May I suggest, if you are short on money, and time, to use cheap grommet curtains (I can get thermic linen look ones for 20$ here, 9 feet long). Get an extra curtain for the extra needed fabric, cut off the top with the grommets, and add and sew the top part with the pleat tape. A great alternative!
I am doing this. I am so so so excited !!! ordering the hooks, tape and rings today! thank you for your video, the best part about it was how you explained it in such a way that even a beginner can tackle this, you took all my fear out out it and Im not going to be intimidated by this thanks to you!
This is amazing timing! Just a while ago I was looking up curtains and wondering about making them for my living room. I was thinking about olive velvet, but I also found a roll of vintage 100% linen at a thrift store recently-86 yds! This is one of my best finds ever, only $32! I have a lot of sewing to do! Thanks so much for this info, it’s very helpful and I love how your living room turned out, it looks very Scandinavian, very pretty.
Cynthia! You did find a bargain! My goodness, that would have made my day. Olive velvet would be so pretty, in fact I have been thinking about doing that in our master bedroom when we get to it. But the linen is so nice too. Happy sewing! Glad I could give you some inspiration.
@@TIDBITSandCompany Yes, I was pretty excited about it, still am! Now I need to stop canning and dehydrating and start sewing. Good luck on your new business!
It looks like the pleater tape you used is currently unavailable. Since I have never used pleater tape (but LOVE how it turned out for you), I am hesitant to try another tape. There seem to be different styles for different results. Would you be able to suggest to the one you used? TIA
You made reference to the linen becoming softer after use and washing. What’s your experience with shrinkage? How should they be dried? I have 120” linen lined drapes that I need to be around 110”. Wondering if I should wash/dry before having them altered. Can you give me some pointers? Any advise is much appreciated!
Totally amazing!! I was dreading the process of making new curtains for my master bedroom, now I feel more enthusiastic about it! Thanks for this video! Can you list the names of the materials need it?
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I don't sew at all but will try to get help from someone to sew our drapes. I love the look of the top hem of the curtain to be hung above the the curtain rod so those rings or clips will be hidden Will that be possible? Also, I love the length of your drapes. What is your ceiling height and what is the length of your drapes?
You can hide the rod and rings by simply placing the hooks a little higher in the pleat tape. However, just be aware that when you open the curtains, the pleats will not sit so nicely together because the rod will now be in the way; the pleats will not be able to fold together and sit back.
Hi! Love this tutorial. Quick question… do you have to fold over the top for the width of the pleat tape? Or can you just do a small hem and attach the pleat tape to the top without the double layer of fabric? Thank you!
Watched your video. My problem is that I want to try and make a pinch pleat drape curtain for a one way draw rod for patio door. So I will need to sew several panels together. What do you do with the seems that are sewn together because they will show from the outside of door.
How do pinch-pleated curtains quality as "Luxury?" I think of them as just good ol' fashioned pinch pleated curtains, myself. If you were using a high-end designer fabric with a lining, yeah. But ANYway.. I was thinking of using this technique with some Pottery Barn curtains I just bought and then it dawned on me: THE MORE PLEATS, THE LESS CURTAIN WIDTH. YIKES! Something to think about . . .
These lay with a much more “luxurious” or rather “quality” look. And having less fabric is a cheaper shortcut that shows as a shortcut and she mentions the extra fabric. I opt for more curtain or fabric which does give a high end look.
Single width for curtains, look like shower curtains, hardly luxurious. Width should be 2.5 - 3 times the width of the window or wall if you are doing wall to wall.

I am not a beginner, but I've never made draperies before. I am going to tackle this. Your video was great.

It sounds great but you explain it in more detail? What's the extra curtain for?
That's exactly what I'm doing today 😊😊
You purchase more fabric width if you would like them to close...window width x 2 or x 2.5 or more depending on the pleat you are using.
Lovely video
Thank you! That was the easiest method thus far and I watcheced tonnes of videos 😊😊😊😊😊
Really nice tutorial, its complete w all the necessary info. Thnx!

Your curtains are absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for these instructions, i too love linen and have made curtains and wish i had this before, they are beautiful.
Thanks Marlene! Linen makes it hard not to love ;)

You bought 86 yards for that price?!?!
Wow!
Bargain of the century!
@@lifeofjoy9404 I know, right? I was amazed and thrilled!
Very easy to follow
Thank you for the info. Looks great!
Beautiful and elegant! ❤

Yours looks great!
I am a DIYer but I can't sew. However I'm going to try this. I'll get the cleaners to see it in
Very interesting and helpful!
Would you please show a demonstration of different types of pleating options that you discussed?
They are out of stock on the pleating tape. Do you have another suggestion for a tape that will give the same visual effect?

Why can’t you open and close curtains if you pleat your curtains? Thanks.

I think I'm suddenly in love with this style for my bedroom! Simple elegance. How do you measure for the width? And what about a return? Thank you!
The width should be 2.5- to 3 times the width of the window.
looking on your Amazon shop for the Pleat Tape and it's out of stock what is your suggestion to use?
can you share the color of shade you purchased from blindsgalore?
Where did you buy your fabric from?

what's your opinion on using iron on adhesive instead of sewing?
I wouldn't do it. Curtains are heavy and eventually the glue will fail.

It will not look as nice if you don’t fold over the fabric to add structure
Love the tutorial! Can you use hemming tape instead of sewing the pleat tape?
Not unless you create and sew your own pleats. The point of pleat tape is thatv there are loops to run the hooks through.
Can u link the pleat tape u used please..
Yes please … Tia

If the fabric is somewhat light waist, use a french seam.
Love your chandelier. Is it vintage or new?
Thank you! The one in the living room is vintage, found it at a market last year. The bigger one in the entry way is new though.
🥰
❤❤❤
The pleat tape is unavailable. Is there another one that will work as well?
Is there an easier way to do it as the tape is super tight for the hooks😢

Cami, I don't see the link to your tidbits linen shop and your blog post link isn't posted either. Blessings!
Joni! How kind of you to point that out to me! I somehow forgot to add those. They are up now, thank you so much!

You're out of breath. It's distracting. Otherwise, thanks for the information!
Yes, I came to comment the same. Take a breath, relax. It's very distracting when you're out of breath.
