I can't think of any center that had the skill set of Sabonis (except maybe Olajuwan)... As a passer, he's likely the best all time among bigs. He also had a great post up game and could shoot from distance. Some of the most highly regarded centers look pedestrian in comparison. He was past his prime when he came to the nba, and remains relatively unknown in America.. but he's a legend in Spain and undoubtedly a hero in Lithuania.

He played maybe a few games with injection, but hey, this is a norm in NBA! Besides, Patrick Ewing had almost same problems at his late 20s. he totally lost his mobility even in 1993, at the age of 30. Maybe the Russkies overussed him, too, though he never heard about it?

With all the flaws of how the Soviet idea was implemented in our country, many ideological principles underlying it - a sense of collectivism, tolerance towards other nations, a willingness to sacrifice everything for the homeland - are not bad at all for the moral education of people and athletes, agree?
Of course. I often said that my homeland is the Soviet Union ...
Do you have any unrealized childhood dream? Or was basketball so busy all the time that there was no possibility of dreaming?
In our youth, by and large, there was one dream - to get into the national team. It was the most important thing in life. If I made my way into the national team, I got a training suit with the inscription "USSR"
      interview with Arvidas Sabonis 2013
in the national team of the USSR he became the champion of the world, the champion of Europe, and the champion of the Olympics games, according to your idiotic logic, he lost years xa xa

he can shoot threes, with good dribbling, good body advantage, high basketball intelligence... and 7'3 tall !!
If he plays in current NBA he would be dominating the league.....

I saw this guy play live in 1986 when I was 12 years old in a Germany vs USSR match...he was just unbelievable, 2.21m tall, running and shooting threes like a guard...he seemed to be just toying with the other guys on the court...his haircut was terrible, though ;)

Only if. Had he played, the Blazers would have won 3-7 championships. MJ is the greatest but he could not have overcome a Blazers team w/ this juggernaut.

Greatest center in the history of basketball. He was basically a point guard trapped in a center's body.
