He’s not wrong. The difference between 30 and 40 is huge. By 40 almost all your friends from 30 will be too involved with their families and careers to really meet up on a regular basis. In 10 years, no one will be watching OTV & friends anymore so will they still be playing together?

It's only parasocial if you think of them as closer than they actually are to you. So long as you give yourself realistic "boundaries" between you and your idols, then you should be fine.
