In this video we experiment with a 1990's style photoshoot complete with VHS camcorder vibes, old cassettes, and boomboxes. This was inspired by GQ's photoshoot with Robert Pattinson for The Batman. We use the original Fuji X100, Sony A7iv, and Fuji XT3. I think the Fujifilm X100 is one of the best vintage digital cameras you can buy. It's everything that's great about 35mm film cameras but with a great raw file. I recommend it over an X100V.

this video is so nice I uploaded it twice.
a bunch of you let me know this video didn't hit your feeds so let's give it another shot. let me know if you saw this one!
all better
@@zacredacted2137 beauty. thanks!
I watched both so the second time felt like watching an old video which I guess it was your intention.
@@RamonLinares like an art project
i saw the last one not this one weird
I'm a happy owner of a Fuji X100 I bought a few month ago, and so far I can tell that the look of the images coming out of it (even the JPEGs) is out of this world, it's completely different from otehr digital cameras that I own. The closest is the Nikon D60, but it's still not quite the same thing.
My main camera is an X-T2, and there is no argue there, it's a way better camera, but I find myself coming back to the X100 just for the experience and the clunkiness of it. I even disabled the rear screen and image review, and only shoot with the OVF it really like having a digital film camera
100% its the best digital film camera.
Yep i just got 1 a few months ago also. Blown away. Digital film for sure
This is so inspiring! Thanks a lot for this video and keep it up..
definitely a beautiful experience and more amazing results.
the "slowing down" bit I noticed it's effects the most while using film simulations on my fuji x100v, it just takes a couple of seconds to process; which gives me more time to think and work to take better photos
just watching this now. im so obsessed with old digital cameras. old sensors are amazing. I did a family photoshoot with a D100. Gave my daughter my Nikon D40 which has one of the best crop sensors ever made. I keep a D700 handy cus its such a beautiful image. even my daily carry is a D610 from 2014. cost wise older digital bodies have handily replaced my film needs for now cus it;s just cheaper and honestly as I get older that instant feedback is nicely rewarding. love the sentiment and the pictures in this video =)
PT!! Always inspirational! Did you time travel back and forth to bring us your amazing content??!! 😉 I have a degree in photo and graduated in 97. Bridging film and digital. Was an amazing time! Fuji has remained my fav in both digital and film. Used to always shoot on Fuji chrome film (slide film) and do a lot of cross processing (look it up) for some wild color palettes. Keep on bro! This is my favorite channel for all things photo, film & lighting!
The execution with this was SUPERB!!! great video and breakdown!
Notification gang checking in 🙏🏽 I loved your moment audio course 🙂👑 much love from Vancouver Canada ❤️
glad it's hitting feeds now!
What an inspiring video. Super sick! 🔥
Great video ☺️ thank you, this was fun
Underrated bro. Sick video.
Oh wow you captured the old tech excitement sentiment perfectly. New gear is unparalleled in its excellence which can be kind of boring. Old tech is just straight up fun and inspiring. Loving these 90s vibes 🙌
Amazing video. Loved it!
thanks mark!
I'm Batman! You wanna talk about me?
Absolutely gorgeous video. And the music! I don't listen to that kind of music (only extreme metal), but this kind of tracks has a real effect, it just puts in the mood of the video, perfect choice.
To be honest your videos are really inspiring. I appreciate the lighting a lot, especially on the talking heads. That's what I have in mind because I want to step in this """filmmaking""" train but have no real video skills even if I'm in photography. When I see your lighting I'm like "that's what I want to do, it's alive, not sterile like many other RUclipsrs."
I know I'm gonna enjoy every single video of yours.
Keep inspiring us.
Appreciate you!
What a cool idea! Photos look superb!
thanks Connor!
I had the x100 around the time it came out. Loved it so much. It really was a game changer for us plebs that couldn't afford a Leica.
Like always, amazing video.
thank you my dude
Absolutely stellar. Feeling extra inspired by your recent videos!
That was a really nice video presentation 😊
Wow this is soooooo goood!
thanks!
Man, it’s content like this that really lights something up in me and makes me want to really get into photography. Do you offer courses of any kind? Maybe you know f someone who does that can help me get to your level.
Thanks Keveen! I don’t have any photo courses. I would check out Matt Day on RUclips as well. He’s great.
@@impatrickt thank you Patrick. Does anyone know of anyone focused on smartphone photography? A Fuji Xe 4 is a bit of a ways away still.
@@souleater302 principles still apply to your phone don’t worry about the camera
I have to agree with you there Patrick, there's something 'different' about the older model of camera... like the Fujifilm X100s that started my journey into the Fujifilm ecosystem. I love it! 📷🥰
Too good!
Thanks!
felt like I was watching a Beastie Boys vid. As usual great stuff. Always look forward to our “professional experiments”:).
Great video. Such beautiful aesthetics.
Mind sharing how you're getting the 90's mini dvr footage type video snippets here?
Straight to the like button, 2secs in!
Good point on digital cameras. Film is all the craze but them old digital cams are nice.
Wow 😳
New suscriber. Great videos man!
Cheers!
I just found your channel and it’s great! I love this look to the vid. Your piece to camera bits did you use the filmbox plugin like your earlier video? I want to do art tutorials with a 90’s feel and that look is killer.
No filmbox in this one! Just manual grading. Thanks for watching 🙌
such a fucking sick shoot dude, props to both of u for such a dope set of images. got me inspired to use my x100 again & to cop myself some more vintage clothing like ma boy canoopsy aha
🤘🤘
Watching your videos in 480 or even 720p makes them so much more enjoyable imo
I don’t know if that’s a compliment or what
@@impatrickt it’s definitely a compliment, I love your content. Thank u for all the great videos
Do have a refurbisher you get your vintage electronics from or do you pick stuff up from thrift stores, etc? I'm fond of Retrospekt, I've ordered a handful of things from them, most recently a Polaroid Impulse AF from 1988. I've heard a few people have had problems with them but I've never run into any issues. Also, are those headphones those old Koss folding portawhatever headphones? I think I used to have a set like that when I was younger 😂
I just buy stuff on eBay im not too concerned with the quality of them!
I have my late dad’s OG X100, in limited edition black paint (only 10,000 were made). It’s really fun. I shoot it only with the OVF and no rear display on - often at f/8. I only shoot it in monochrome with a 20% cinebloom filter. Kind of a poor man’s Monochrom, but I think of my dad often when I shoot it. I sell off a lot of cameras, but this was my old man’s - so we won’t part.
anyone else notice in a couple pics they left a bit of the future in it with the apple watch haha i dig it!
Love the aesthetic! Would be interested to know if you used presets that I can get somewhere, or did you created your own presets for this project?
I just edit from scratch. thanks for watching!
I want more x100 photoshoots
Nostalgic.
What lens did you use for the opening b-roll and talking head portions? Love the character of the focus falloff.
35mm rokinon f1.8 and a neewer wide angle adapter from Amazon
Dope video. I have the x100v as my first foray into Fujifilm and loving it so far.
Wish you’d got the model to remove his Apple Watch though
the Apple Watch was part of the whole aesthetic. we mixed all tech.
@@impatrickt nice
I still shoot with my xpro1 and old digi cams. I'm going to be looking for a x100
nice!
Can you got into detail on that 8 setting you used or THEE settings you use and it’s purpose, I have a problem with focusing, any tips?
I don’t think sharing settings is productive because it focuses on the wrong aspect of what makes good images. It’s not settings. I leave everything in auto.
@@impatrickt your totally right
How the hell did you do that slow shutter video effect? I assume a slow shutter and 24p then slowed in post so it looks choppy? Unreal man, you’re so creative. Epic track too
you have to shoot it with a slow shutter - nothing was done in post for it 🙏
Canoopsy is really him
I’m sorry if I missed it, but besides shooting experience and a few creature comforts, would you say the original x100 images are that different from the x100t? I’ve read about folks preferring that original sensor but better autofocus and WiFi seem like worthy upgrades. Just curious.
you wouldn't be buying the original for the images - it's the experience. im honestly a believer that sensors dont really matter. even old ones. granted, I haven't shot with the T in over a year, but the original is lower res and doesn't use X trans so it will provide something different.
@@impatrickt cool, thanks man.
I bought the Fujifilm X 10 for just 75€. It has a smaller sensor, but it’s still a nice camera.
I have the X30 as well
Wong kar waiish Intro 🤌🏼
what do you think have the better "film" look: the og x100 or x100s?
neither - whatever you do its going to come from editing. both just take digital photos of that era.
whats the simulation you used for the images?
none
When is Fujfiilm X100 IV coming out ?
never
Is that my boy Canoopsy?
Holy crap, didn't know San Holo was on musicbed!
Yeah
hey man great vid thanks. do you think a7c or xt5 is better?
I wouldn't buy either
@@impatrickt oh wow damn
Why what would you recommend as an all around hybrid shooter?
@@husseinaliabdulzahraal-dul1575 a7iv
@@impatrickt thanks man I really appreciate it. Can you please give me maybe something more affordable?
@@impatrickt or more compact tbh
What are your setting
Auto
@@impatrickt what do you usually keep the iso
Is music bed better than artlist ?
in my opinion, yes.
i already watched this
Did you though?
Does it have film simulations / recipes?
ye
Srsly, what is up with the OG X100 getting so much shine on YT lately. I dont know why, but im so happy to see Fuji getting its due, i think Fuji is the next "it brand" and im so happy for them.
10 year anniversary. it’s a real piece of shit. i stopped shooting fuji all together.
@@impatrickt Why the change of heart on Fuji?
@@curtisdinman bad lens selection and uncomfortable cameras
what vhs camcorder was used?
something from panasonic I can't recall the exact model. found it on ebay for like 40 bucks. it's VHS-C.
Dying to know the model!
Patrick: ..it's extremely important to me that I use the highest-quality music I can find.
*puts on Porta Pros*
😦😅
You’ve never used the Porta Pro’s then.
@@impatrickt for audio mixing? Nope
@@TedTalksTech bummer
screw the apple event im here for this
you're a real one
defo more of Y2K photoshoot but yeah
I would love to buy an original x100 or x100s but the prices right now, are absurd.
Unfortunately they will only get worse.
I have 4 original X100 . I bought all on ebay in excellent condition. The last 2 i paid $260 & $275 for. Almost a hundred less than the first 2 i bought. People are giving them away. Also bought the S for 365 but the pics are not the same
@@frankartale1026 not in Canada. Some are 1200, locally offline you can’t find one less than 500.
@@impatrickt holy crap. For the original x100.?
@@frankartale1026 yeah - in good condition. if you want a junker they’re about 350.
I think you got 80s and 90s mixed up.
I think you missed the point
That iPod is out of date.
No
so dop but... ipod didnt come out till 2001 lmao whats your IG tho ?
it’s flabbergasting to me the nonsense people fixate on
