This is so cool. Needs to at least go a full season to see how well it can do but this series is so much fun. I hope it does well, stays fun for Sam and is profitable so he can continue with his work lifestyle. He's a good guy.
i fell off the algorithm for a while but this is a cool series idea and i hope to see more cool stuff like the "good ole days" . you should do a decware wicked one
I've built a box like this before just to test port speed. Yup. The box i had tested was tuned to 22hz. Very similar results. Was only using an old school rf power 150. It actually made a cheap subwoofer sound pretty good. Not load butt the lower bass had a decent sound. Luv the series. Can't wait for more box testing. Need a horn to come up. I've built a couple with interesting results.
Absolutely next level content.. glad to have been a follower for the last 10 years defiantly taught me a few things.. this brings me back to putting speakers in large model cars and doing damage to them. Always had a thought about how cool it'd be to replicate that sound to the real thing.. this is by far my favourite box lowhz ftw
i dont often comment but man i gotta feed the algorithm here! really cool series, great job! keep at it and im sure this could get big. let this be the next fan showdown
Yep experience is king, just because a box is tuned to a certain fs, doesn't mean the vehicle it is going in,will be it's loudest,I've moved the exact same set up to a different vehicle and it was so much more clear and loud .it is amazing to experience.
I'm feeling my chest vibrate in my room to the sound of my subwoofers that are actually playing a sound 6x higher frequencies, but again lowered six times of a 2 inches driver that simulates a 12 inches subwoofer, but it is a full range speaker. WTF is going on with 2023?! Great video Sam! Am I losing it?
With everyone else on this one. Sam this is a super cool series and I hope tons of people get into this. Hope we see some innovative designs come out of this. Prefab sellers have limited options and most are too expensive for what you get.
i put a Skar ZVX 8" in the full size version (12x13x25) and it does get low :) similar to a BP box i tuned to 33hz but this box is like half the size. after watching the latest Hexibass video i am trying designs with a much smaller initial chamber which should help with the power handling. i did submit some of those, we will see if barevids chooses one. if you like to get low and don't have a lot of power this design seems to work well. find a driver with a lot of xmax, give it about half rated power and it goes BOOM. not to bad beating the "spec" box and with less power. i look forward to the next video. Derek
Sam, can you take that box appart and put a liquid with some food colorant on it about halfway full and the speaker hole and the port sealed so you can show what/how the waves interact with the various chambers. That would be interesting to see.
@barevids I have heard that positioning your box a certain way changes the output. Or just helps. Is the box tilted like that for a reason. Also would pointing the port up change any numbers?
I just came across your video and learnt a lot, would like to know how port velocity affects performance and how to calculate port area for a specific subwoofer and box size, subbed bro
Yeah, that would be interesting. Shouldn't be too much since he's being reasonable and backing off the power when the drivers suspension is maxed out, but "for science" it would be cool to see any change in this controlled setup.
I just ran DATs again today - ita actually gone down by another 10hz! Though scaled that's not so much, instead of a 21hz Fs it's now 19hz. At the end of the season tho I'll probably rerun the top 5 boxes to double check they're still performing the same relative to one another.
I think a box that loads the cone a lot will be good in these experiments. Haven't looked at the specs of that driver, but I think it would translate to a 12 with very high motor force since it's neo motor, And quite large size motor coil for the size of cone
What I would like to know is why my pressure reloads in the floor/kick panel area?!?! No one has been able to tell me by. Even with the doors open I'm loudest in the floor.
thats standard for most vehicles. Pressure will be the highest at extremes - right up against the firewall, in a "cubby" being the footwell, etc. Sitting in the seat, you are closer to the midpoint of the cabin which is often closer to a pressure void than a peak.
Not a pro. Opinion has to do with the speed of sound and compression. Lowers the area space & creates more compression? In a given volume. Example corners in. A room will seem to have more bass? If you figure it out please share.
Man this is the most unique thing that I saw on yt about stuff audio I want to make a donation to put my channel name on that layout cabin car where I can send you money. ?!
except it doesnt have the 3 peaks in the impedance you would expect of a 6th order. and why put 6th order in quotes? thats what it is. a 6th order bass reflex. its not psuedo 6th order or anything.
@@mustang351c4 Because the community is split so heavily on what constitutes an order that it's just easier to appease both schools of thought that way. bugetbasshead explains the division in his video on counting orders really well.
That scale is exactly how my space is. 4 18" in a durango tuned to the fs of sundown x-18s. It has no choice but to be loud and make pressure. No winding breaking pressure but pushing the window out of seal pressure 😭😭😭
Tune the slot for like 20hz , and see how this driver performs in a big enclosure. I think, it's curve will be flat like a sealed box but will be efficient.
Sam, can you compress the YT audio, the visual is good enough, but farty audio misses any option to hear the "what you hear" distortion. Just saying 🤘🤘
95% of people are watching on their phones, so leaving the camera mic distortion in is an important part of allowing the content to be enjoyed by everyone, otherwise for those 95% the demo section would be completely silent lol.
I am not so sure that there is that much of an internal air space difference between this box vs. Yours your enclosure was a simple aroport, his box was a dual tuned port and the expansion chamber in the corner of the port takes up a lot of internal volume making that box appear substantially larger than your arrow ported box if there's any way possible please measure internal volume that will be a good experiment
Hopefully, this series blows up man you deserve it!
This is a cool series! I hope he gets a lot of submissions.
Seriously! These deserve way more views.
Hm, doesn’t sound good in bass head terms. You definitely don’t want it to blow up.
For real
@@jace_Henderson Please blow up that lil driver. Is it a tang band?
Hey Sam give us sneak peeks of the next enclosure at the end of the video it'll keep more people intrigued.
I'm Very excited about this series...you can learn so much from this scaled down example of Audio and can't wait to see the next one.
Very interesting and unique series for sure. Lovin’ it! 👍🏻
Your idea is brilliant! Love the testing and production. Great show.
This is a great series and your explanation of the curves is very helpful! Awesome vids!

Dude, I love this series! thx.
Loving this series 😊
You should make a benchmark for sealed boxes too
Anyone can design a sealed box and submit it ☺
loving the series. hoping this takes off :D

Looking forward to an amazing season
I just love this guy I love the way everything is explained in any video he does! Super amazing job brother !!🔊
U should put a barbie doll by the driver door to see if they hairtrick. Lol

Just found this channel and I’m hooked!
@HexiBase, this is right up your alley.
This really makes me want to get back into audio as a hobby. Thanks man!
what a neat video series sam! i'm loving it so far!

get an actual 12 with some watts and reallly feel the music

Very interesting design
Enjoying the series already Sam !
i already know this series is gonna do well. very fun. :)
This is so damn cool man, love this series sam.

Interesting design thanks for the series
Wow... This was awesome,!
Very cool! Just giving you a 👍 for this cool series! It's amazing how everything scales, even the camera clips!
Can anyone tell me any name of the songs used ?
Looking for good 25-35hz songs.
Same was looking for the song at 6:00. One of the previous vids had the demo names
Does anyone know the song playing at 5:52 ?
Great idea, i love it !
Sam, can you take that box appart and put a liquid with some food colorant on it about halfway full and the speaker hole and the port sealed so you can show what/how the waves interact with the various chambers. That would be interesting to see.
I think I will look at a sealed 2 driver setup, and run a phase correction in passives. It could be tuned via LCR and some baffles.
I heard you mention the ABC box in passing. Do you happen to know who originally popularized that nickname for the Dual Chamber Aperiodic enclosure?
Not sure, heard it in passing 😂
@barevids I have heard that positioning your box a certain way changes the output. Or just helps. Is the box tilted like that for a reason. Also would pointing the port up change any numbers?
It's tilted so I can see the driver to gauge mechanical limit, can't have the port up on this one as the box is too big
What happens when the box locking forward and not backwards, like in the video? It is louder?
I just came across your video and learnt a lot, would like to know how port velocity affects performance and how to calculate port area for a specific subwoofer and box size, subbed bro
Quality contenttt
Loving this
I wonder how much the speaker will change over this series. It'd be interesting to see the speaker in your box again at the end of the season.
Yeah, that would be interesting. Shouldn't be too much since he's being reasonable and backing off the power when the drivers suspension is maxed out, but "for science" it would be cool to see any change in this controlled setup.
He already broke it in, so assuming he doesn't damage anything it should be fine.
ahh, I didn't catch that.
For the science was what I was thinking. It's not like it would be a perfect experiment. Just fun to see what happens and ponder it.
I just ran DATs again today - ita actually gone down by another 10hz! Though scaled that's not so much, instead of a 21hz Fs it's now 19hz. At the end of the season tho I'll probably rerun the top 5 boxes to double check they're still performing the same relative to one another.
Is boom or bust ever coming back? This was the coolest series
Yeah I'm trying it
This is very cool

Early or something cool like that
I would love to design u a box but have no idea how to use Google sketch up or cad or any of that designing software
Good opportunity to learn it, it's very easy!
Awesome brother!
Wish I had a way to design one, I just finished my first subwoofer box build ever. Ton of fun
Download fusion360 it's free 😁
FreeCAD is also free but idk if it can export the right file type, going to find out
Is there a tracklist for these videos?
Looks similar to the old “snail shell” box design!
That's pretty interesting that it can hit that low.
Can you build a real size box for 2 15's
so cool
And pls test this in folded horn enclosure too , hopefully this folded horn would màke it perform shocking good.
What was the first song that you played
can someone design one to be angled into the rear corner I've always done this with my desktop speakers with a good outcome just curious what happens
I'd really like to get my 6th order thrown in to the mix but I need to re model it first~
great series man, unique and interesting, hope it blows up
how about two of your aero benchmark, matching similar to the footprint of derek? Or is this benchmark for single drivers only?
Season 1 is single 12", we will add more in future seasons 😁
Whats all the songs you played.
What I would like to know is why my pressure reloads in the floor/kick panel area?!?! No one has been able to tell me by. Even with the doors open I'm loudest in the floor.

So.. what is the triangle for?
Man this is the most unique thing that I saw on yt about stuff audio I want to make a donation to put my channel name on that layout cabin car where I can send you money. ?!
Hey man nsvaudio @gmail.com drop me a line there! 😊
That looks like a really compact "6th order" bass reflex. I'd bet that's how it's functioning as well.
except it doesnt have the 3 peaks in the impedance you would expect of a 6th order.
and why put 6th order in quotes? thats what it is. a 6th order bass reflex. its not psuedo 6th order or anything.
its also backwards of how they are generally designed. you usually have the smaller camber behind the driver and the larger one after the first port.
@@mustang351c4 Because the community is split so heavily on what constitutes an order that it's just easier to appease both schools of thought that way. bugetbasshead explains the division in his video on counting orders really well.

Can anyone tell what track that is at 5:52 - 6:08?
i wanted to call this a 6th order bass reflex, but it didnt have the third impedance spike expected of one....
I could send the massive 28hz bass reflex but the thing is I designed it to be low not loud. I need to think about it 🤔💭
Whats the 5:52 song name please
Can you name the fourth track?
Sam, can you compress the YT audio, the visual is good enough, but farty audio misses any option to hear the "what you hear" distortion. Just saying 🤘🤘

Dereks box but 25 percent smaller... same driver would do the trick
What’s the song at 6:35
Dude are these small woofers hitting hard?
how can someone submit a design but no speaker specs to optimize for
All the speaker parameters and instructions are via the link in the video description lol.
Had any one done a ported box we’re the driver is hidden in the inside of the box
I guess this goes to show a good enclosure doesn’t mean you need a really powerful sub to make some nasty bass.
Gonna have to do this series all over again for dual or multi driver designs in single boxes.
Yep, plan this for future seasons 😎
👍
Song name 5:56?

BURPING THE BABY?
Hey Sam I got this saying I won somthing from you plz let me know I haven't heard you say you was having a give away
ITS YOS MEDIA
It's a well known Scam mate do not interact with anything claiming to be a RUclips channel saying you've won anything.
Day 1 asking for what track at 5:52- 6:08
I think this box needs a 15" not a 12"
Why is the mic distorting so easily.
Because it's very loud, the demos are playing 150-360hz remember and then being slowed down in post.
@@barevidsOh ok. What is the peak db the mic can handle. Didn't know the demos were at such a high freq, slowed post recording right?
What was the song at 6:00
@@mush0847 yes I recommend watching the two videos I made leading up to this. It explains everything lol.
First!
I won what
I didn't know you was doin a give away
Track list please?
