Commenting before watching (Currently in a finished class) But i saw online about the oily LPS and i spoke to my father about it since he is familiar with production machines, and he said it was most likely a oil base coat put into the LPS moulds before the plastic is poured in, and somehow it got onto the pets and stayed on. Think of it like buttering up a frying pan before u cook eggs or something. To get rid of the oily feeling, just wash the LPS with dawn type soap and water. Id recommend being gentle and using your hands and not a towel or brush. This type of thing happens a LOT with dolls like barbie and RainbowHigh dolls (Atleast to me in the past and present)
Edit: (After watching) Plasticizer is definitely a good option as well, I do find it odd that it happened to new toys though… I’d imagine this is a retail store error or shipping error

For my birthday (which was yesterday) I got the Pets Got Talent playset which I had asked for. I think it looks nice in the box but I wanted to know what the LPS were like so I took them out, only to find that they had the most solid heads out of any LPS I'd ever felt and their eyes were completely printed out of place. It was honestly disappointing so I just put them back in the box and displayed it like that.
Weird their head was hard I've seen and heard a lot that they have way more squishy heads because of cheaper materials

@@Meckolo maybe but basic fun said they used cheaper materials overall to keep them affordable so they may just be using what's cheap and available

“Sticky doll syndrome” or “sticky doll disease” happens when plastic starts to break down, and separate into its component parts (kind of like how old chocolate eventually breaks down into cocoa powder and cocoa butter.) Unfortunately, this seems to be a side effect of using cheaper plastics to make the toys.
This is what I was worried about! I haven't bought any yet because I'm afraid that the material wouldn't be like the g2 lps and would be rubbery or just not the same, and I feel like the texture of littlest pet shops were just a huge part of the brand.
I bought a lot and I don’t understand like any of these videos.. their heads are slightly softer but that’s all I notice about them. I think they’re nice and I don’t think they’re oily at all and they don’t smell at all. my friends say the same.
ive gotten several pets and none of them had this!! and i think its probably just from storage or shipping (probably why it depends from store to store), perhaps moisture and heat making the pets sticky / oily !! which checks out, because im in washington and its pretty chilly here hahha

I work in a plastic factory but we make laundry basket and trashcans not toys. So I can't speak for their paint. But greese and oil is a very common problem in our factory. But depending on the oil and your press you can rub it off with the glove. The oil I've been seeing seems to be the lubing oil. It's pretty much oil to prevent parts from getting stuck and/nor not sliding out in time. The machines usually aren't operated by hands so if a part is stuck or comes out late our machine will smash it and then we have to call the techs over. If i had to take an educated guess it's either there is no quality control or the company is choosing to let this slide. Honestly we let oil and regride sploches pass if it's like Dollar General products because they are cheap and not paying the company enough for them to fix the problem. Companies like Hefty and HMS are a different story. We have to really watch those and call the techs over all the time to stop the machine and try and get the extra greese out of the mold. But i personally think the new company (because it's not Hasbro making these) they may not exactly know how to fix this at the moment or can't and because it's not like a black steek of oil that got into the liquid plastic they don't want to regride them and probably just tell them to over look it. When we get new mold that mess with our presses or the tech aren't use to them this can be a problem and because they don't really know how to fix it and if it's not that bad they will pass it. As for the smell I think I'm just nose blind because they smell fine. Ive been smelling plastic and chemicals for a while and honestly if it's not a toxic or burning plastic im pretty indifferent to the smells. With the oil we usually use oil removal spray but this might rub off the paint so just rub dawn on a dry pet and get a damp washcloth and use your thumb to rub the washcloth into the pet. Depending on thr brand of lubing oil it can make your tough go numb if it gets in your mouth. So no Don't go shoving the pets in your mouth and sucking on the oil. But it's in such small quantities on the pets you'll be fine just rub it off then wash you hand after. If anyone has any questions or i was unclear feel free to ask.
This is really interesting, glad you talked about it! As a long-time action figure collector my mind immediately went to plasticizer too. See it all the time with figures in humid climates and places where temperature tends to go up and down rapidly, and a gentle handwash with soap and water is usually all it takes...
But then you mentioned it being specifically on the paint for the shark and now I'm wondering. Maybe it's a solvent or sealant for the paint that didn't get to properly set before being packaged? You see it sometimes with older action figures, particularly those with a gummier plastic: over time in humid or fluctuating temperature environments the sealant or top coat for the paint with get tacky or gooey, sometimes exposing the paint beneath, making it more prone to wear over time. Again, washing it works just fine, but over time it can cause the paint to because more prone to chipping and cracking, especially on squishier figures (which this new gen of LPS seems to be). Just another thought.
Either way, I hope BasicFun listens and takes to heart people pointing this issue out to them and they change how they're storing their products or how quickly they're moving from final paint and plastic touches to packaging. It's a minor inconvenience to wash it off but it does put a dent in the quality and consumer expectations of their product, not great lol.

I just recently opened a bunch of new lps and posted the video.
I can confirm that one of the pets was sticky and some of them had a weird strong smell, and gave me and my sisters a headache. So I guess I'll have to complain 😅

I got the 3 pack with the shark and mine wasn’t oily… but they didn’t smell great 🙈
My 3 packs were not oily. But my blind boxes have lots of black smudges and silver metalic paint splatters
My g2 lps did that too and all you have to do is clean then off and let then up on a display. That only happened to me when they were all together in a Tupperware.
Hmm I've bought loads of lps now and have had no issues. I'm waiting for my blind boxes to come before I can have an opinion on those.
As someone whose opened four three packs, two playsets, and 8 pet bundles ive never had this issue strangly enough
It could possibly be a factory error by the protective paint seal melting inside of the packaging because of the temperature inside the packaging.
I have gotten the City Vibes pack once (actually, I got one for myself and one for my friend), and the bird had this on its feet in both packs. In the middle of watching this video I went and found the Wild Vibes at Target and my rhino and iguana also had this, so I washed it off. I think it's coming from the paint also, because thats where it was.
I was wondering that the stuff was when I saw it on the birds so i'm glad I know more about it now.
I am probably going to call the oil "LPS pee" because thats funny lol

ive heard about this on reddit. idk if its dangerous ive heard its giving people headaches tho. i just recently got a 3 pack i really wanted so im glad none of my lps had this odd liquid on them. this launch has been so messy tho, i hope with the next 'wave' basic fun can improve and avoid things such as this from happening as it seems to occur very often.

I don't know. That shouldn't be natural. It may be pretty,but it might be dangerous. When you have a substance with an unknown liquid. Wash it!
Currently the only new lps I have are 2 of the tubes, and they thankfully do not have this issue, but however my issue with my pets is they’re very messily painted, and I had to touch them up as much as I could. I just think basic fun needs to fix all the issues we are having, cause there’s multiple, and it’s not looking good for us. I really hope they notice these errors and do something.

Or those people can be lying to cause drama. You shouldn't believe in some people. And, I brought most of the new LPS, and NONE of mine had oil or a weird smell (I actually like the same). Either they are doing it for drama and making the new LPS look bad (because most reviews are positive, so maybe they want to stir the drama). But in my opinion, they either put baby oil or something and post it. And, when people do that, some other people will stir the drama. I don't believe it.
Can you make a video with the new otters and one of otters that you already have and it can be about them finding out that their mom is having another baby

I got the tiki set I opened The pack the lps were so solid it honestly made me want to throw them away I washed them off hoping that It would not be so oily but It didn't work
try to wash it or soak it in warm soapy water dish soap works best and dont use a brush
