I got it installed on my Xbox and got on OG H2 for the first time since like 2009. Was nice going back and seeing the old matchmaking UI and friends list. Wish it had more people on there though
Used to create video content on Halo 2 back in the day in 2005-2006 era. I was in a clan called xXAnarchy06Xx and we made some sick videos. The vids are still on RUclips to this day!
Having to find a match through Discord is what puts me off from olaying this game. No offense, but I have joined so many Discord groups that have users always set up an event to a game and it's usually the days where I have work and that isn't possible for me to join. It just happened when there were hosts for a PGR4 event and at this point, I rather just play with friend who all have the time together or play with a larger playbase. As sweaty as Halo 2 Classic MCC, I can still get matches quickly on a random day rather than sitting, wanting, then go to a Discord group, ask for a match and it's usually 1 or 2 people who will join. I have Insignia, but I mostly use it to get all of the missing DLC to some of the games I own.
The problem is that Social H2 on MCC can more often than not be like OG H2 Hardcore. The population is rather small and the skill gap is huge. So, I can see why it puts people off it on MCC.
The skill gap is absuuuuuurd. There's just not a way for someone like me to have anything resembling fun when you're just cannon fodder in every single game. Insignia I actually manage to be middle to top of the board most of the time, MCC I'm happy when I'm not dead last. I can't git gud anymore. I'm too old. If I ever get time away from job/wife/kids to play Halo, it's nice to play with skill peers.
Im so glad you've discussed the issues with MCC. Its weird seeing lots more people discussing these issues, as just a frw months ago, I felt like the odd man out who felt the OG games ran way better, as I would get people telling me "its the same game" or "it runs better on MCC", but now Ive noticed more and more the sentiment has changed, especially after the cheater situation in MCC has blown up the way it has. I dont have experience with halo 2, as I dont have an OG xbox, but given my experience with Halo 3, I knew halo 2 had issues too. Along with all the missing playlists as you brought up. It sucks, but thats why Im so glad we have communities like the insignia community and other revival projects. I hope to get an OG xbox soon, Im just a little tight on cash atm. People will say its just nostalgia, but I didnt grow up with Halo and yet I can tell the OG games are better. I hope our community(ies) grow more and more! Long live classic Halo!
I just saw abother video qbout the original Halo 2 multiplayer being back andnhaving ti get a midded Xbox to play it and it having the original net code. Its actually FASTER than MCC believe it or not, by a small but noticeable amount. And the whole "whoever shoots first usually wins" was omnipresent in 2004 up to the end. The solution was the BR as a weapon you had to find rather then start with (usually a pistol, plasma rifle, or SMG instead). Its also the reason they invented equipment for 3, to counter BR starts.
@@zalrohglekgolo6149 i dont think thats actually true. 343 themselves have been trying to patch MCC H2 to be more like the original game for a long time now. They patched BR to have a more delayed shooting a few years ago and more recently they dropped an update to make the tick rate feel the same as the original game. And no, whoever shoots first wins wasn’t all the rage, it was whoever has the best aim wins. Aiming in MCC is laser precise if you use mnk but in the original game you had to aim with a thumbstick with a BR that had slower projectile speeds. Yes halo 2 was fast, faster than halo 3 and reach, but nowhere near as fast as H2 on MCC
@@mmfood97 I'm not trying to be a dick, in the vidoc going over equipment for Halo 3 the devs refer to a school of thought during the launch of Halo 2 about how whoever shit first generally won the engagement, as they said equipment was mean to turn the tide of a gunfight in that specific instance. I was there on the forums talking about this when it was a thing. I mean ultimately I don't have a horse in this race, but the other video I saw could have been lying but it too was made by someone who was there for it and spent years working with it.
@@zalrohglekgolo6149 Perhaps it was an argument back then but even so ive played Halo 2 on Insignia and have compared it to MCC and the original does feel easier to play and you have more leway in BR battles. Halo 2 was pretty fast and the BR was a bit overpowered so i can see it being a common complaint back then, but in comparison to MCC its really kind of a night and day difference that makes me appreciate the original more. Even if the engagements were considered too fast at the time I think they hold up pretty well in retrospect
Well, the technical problem is the same in CE, 3 and Reach on MCC, the main reason why 2 is the least played is simply because its sandbox was broken from the start by the BR. Halo 3 is more popular with its far better balance and the sandbox overall feels like an upgrade to 2, while CE kept its fan base on PC for 20+ years with its smaller but perfectly well working sandbox, it's unique driving physics and unique vehicle warfare. With Reach being of course the most popular since it's the last Bungie Halo and the old Reach kids now starting to take over the big % of the fanbase from the 3 spilt fanbase since the old CE kids and old Halo 3 kids are at an age now where they are often just busy with other things in life.
I disagree that the sandbox was broken. The BR was overpowered but Br starts were not as common as they were in Halo 3. Judging halo 2 based off MCC alone is not fair to Halo 2 because the original game plays and feels very different
The latest interation of 343 guilty industries definately lacks that flavor or knack overall as well. I don't tolerate experiencing it. The gameplay vibe seems to be the player controlling a robot in a simulation. Of you drive a vehicle there is no weight whatsoever. Adapting to PC sort of gameplay was a huge mistake. It's insane how I get reactions of contempt when seeing the difference

But man MCC H2 is so soulless. I hate how everyone seems to exclusively want to play BR starts. Like sure that's fun as an MLG playlist on lockout/midship/sanctuary etc. But where's my BTB Skirmish smg starts on the big maps. That playlist was so chill/fun. It's fun when the BR itself is a power weapon. And no need to cry about "once they get the BR it's gg". In BTB skirmish each team is basically given various power weapons for free no contesting(and it is round based so it resets power weapons constantly), It was almost like a loadout system in reach, but still more sandboxy. People actually used dual wield combos like SMG+plasma rifle/pistol. The only valid complaint is the needler is useless. keep BR start in MLG playlist, game is so stale otherwise
