I went to see the movie. I heard they respected the first one. I hoped, they did. When I heard the first few accords of the opening theme I almost started to cry. In the middle of the theme I knew everything would be all right.
Best 6 mins I've spent on YT in a while. Literally doing the job of 3, perhaps 4 ppl. Just in awe of these masterfully skilled artists we call pianist.
Can we just talk about how simple the opening theme is? It instantly draws you in without any special trills, just repeated notes and basic step progressions. The Top Gun Anthem is amazing, and a prime example of 'work smarter, not harder.'
Might I suggest watching the top gun theme music video from the first film. It shows Harold Faltermeyer, he is the writer of this iconic theme. Hans Zimmer added his own touches to the original theme, and in the opening credits, Harold gets his name on the credits for his work in the first movie.

There are some piano versions of it but to each and everyone of them was missing something but this OH MY GOD. This has everything I wanted, perfect and beautiful

Thanks for your comment and your question! It's always very different, depending on how difficult the arrangement is. This arrangement here tends to be one of my easier ones. It took me a total of 2 weeks to make the video, the other 2 weeks I was busy with other things. 😅

The Main Titles has its own title name! It's called, "You've Been Called Back to Top Gun"! I didn't know that this song was composed by Hans Zimmer, Harold Faltermeyer and Lorne Balfe too! They are my favorite composers, I could know when I saw the detail of this song.

I played something similar once (Cat and the Mouse) - only thing that helped was running through at normal speed for most notes but pausing on the same one every phrase for just an inordinate amount of time, relaxing, then continuing, then repeating, then doing the whole thing again but pausing on a different part of each phrase. It's a lot harder to explain than to do. Hope that helped. Like, the first time, do: 1 2 3 4......1 2 3 4...... 1 2 3 4...... and the second time: 1 2 3.......4 1 2 3......4 1 2 3.......4

The trickiest bit for me in this particular downward arpeggio (not sure that's the right description) is to hit the c with the pinky right after hitting it with the thumb, and to not accidently hitt one of the adjacent keys. I always wondered about the beginning sound.... and then I remembered my childhood in the 80s. Every Saturday there was a blackbird flying above us in northern Germany. The ultra sonic boom and the engine sounds are comparable to that from a far distance. Awesome soundtrack indeed!
