I only know this info because of obviously the Mets are my favorite team and every time you pitch as deGrom they ALWAYS have to say this info because “Wow Really? It’s not like I’ve heard this before!”
Was never considered a top prospect either. I remember when he came up he pitched the first end of a DH against the Yankees and people "in the know" we're saying how his upside could be a 4th starter but likely a future bullpen arm Wild how Harvey, Wheeler and Syndergaard were all considered so much better than him coming up and he's blown all of them out of the water.
Degrom doesn't and won't have the war totals of the all time greats, but if you had your pick of any version of any pitcher throughout history, it's really hard to argue against him. Which I guess means I would vote him in the hall of fame if he retired today.
Good thing you aren’t in charge of who gets in the hall of fame! To think Degrom is hall of fame worthy is ridiculous. He’s good but come on he’s thrown 1.2k innings. He’s only had 3 solid seasons. That is not hall of fame material.
He needs another Cy Young and few more years of peak performance, and some dominant playoff performances wouldn’t hurt. If he stays mostly healthy for the next 3-4 years I think he can definitely do it.
@@otgbaby4615 3 solid seasons my ass! What? He's been excellent every single year. Sandy Koufax is in. If degrom can gut out maybe 300 more innings in the mlb his career value will be pretty similar.
@@foarfield Sandy Koufax threw twice as many innings than Degrom. He won 3 Cy Young’s and an MVP all at the age of 30. Do not compare the two, they are not on the same level. When’s the last time Degrom threw over 200 innings a season? He’s only been good 2015, 2018, 2019. Please tell me how that’s hall of fame worthy?
@@otgbaby4615 And 2014, and 2016, and 2017, and 2020, and 2021. If you look at any of those years and think he wasn't good I don't know why I am even having this discussion. His worst years are better than like every single all time great's worst years. Clemens had worse years, both Johnsons had worse years, Pedro. His 2021 was more valuable than most starters who threw twice as many innings as him. That's how good he was. The first, like, 700 innings koufax threw were slightly above replacement level. ERA 4.10, FIP just below 4. #4-5 Starter Caliber for a big chunk of his career innings. Degrom equaled them in his first 250 innings alone. He is absolutely on the same level and the only question is his health, which I am completely pessimistic about.
He is the best I have ever seen ….. the mets this year have the top 2 pitchers easily (I mean anyone who does not say degrom is simply the best player on the planet does not watch…and i get saying scherzer is not number 2…. but hes up there and a HOF and a great playoff pitcher) and edwin diaz is not only diaz from SEA but a better one IF …. IF … (mainly degrom) stays healthy…. how can they lose in the post season especially when ur top 3 pitch the most?! it will be fun to watch
Aaron Nola is having a great season with MLB top 10s in WAR for pitchers (3rd), WHIP (6th), FIP (6th) and K/9 (9th), while pitching the second most innings (144.2) so far. I love that he does it with a cutter and curveball, which are both featured in this video starting at 1:39.
Imagine facing Jacob deGrom for 8 innings and then going up against Edwin Diaz to close out the game 😳 I really hope the Dodgers never get either of these guys or, even worse, BOTH of them (they certainly have the trillions of dollars to afford both).
A correction. Upon further review 1964 Dodgers starters Drysdale and Koufax had ERA's of 2.18 and 1.74 . Unreal . But Scherzer and deGrom. are within reach.
Here's something stunning about how good Scherzer and Degrom have been. This is before a lot of the current readers time. The best 1,2 starters on the same team in modern history have been Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax 1963 Dodgers. Drysdale's era for the year was 2.63. Koufax's was 1.88. Today, Degrom 2.53 Scherzer 1.98. Wow. Great stuff Pitching ninja
Hey pitching ninja, are you able to go into what that vertical fastball movement does? Christian Javier that is. And how he achieves it? Does he throw it differently? Or is it just grip/release? Thanks!!! Love your vids.
idk anyone who says Striders outing being as poor as it was is down to luck is not really knowledgeable about smart hitting, they fought off a bats which causes them to get good pitches to hit, or draw walks which he's lucky they didn't score more against him tbh. The Alonso hit wasn't really luck because you could tell he meant to draw it down the line by the swing, and then Canha crushed his which all stems from swinging to make contact and not trying to homer every a bat.
This debate has been raging all day on Reddit with many salty Braves fans going on about luck and high BABIP. Pretty tedious when you just need to watch what the Mets do day in and day out: smart hitting as you say. If luck is involved, it's luck they're making for themselves from their hitting approach.
A power outage, yikes! Don’t know what part of the country you’re in, but if the weather is anything like the hot soup we’ve had on the East Coast, not having power would be pretty unbearable. Glad things are back online for you. (And I hope everyone else is keeping cool! 😎⚾️🍻)
McKenzie out there looking like a pitching skeleton. Dude's my height and I outweigh him by close to 100 lbs and I'm not even fat. Does dude eat food? I guess he's doing something right.
You keep leaving out Scherzer and you'll make him so mad he will throw more no hitters get that perfect game he should have had and strike out 21 in a game....unless that's exactly what you are aiming for!
I was going through withdrawal without a video yesterday
Your deGrom Diaz overlay was awesome. Professional quality stuff Pitching Ninja.
DeGrom was a 9th round pick. Unbelievable how good he's become. STUD
Was drafted as a shortstop funny enough

@@xXFoXyPaNdAXx No, he was drafted as a pitcher, but played shortstop in college and didn’t pitch until his junior year
As a met fan whenever Degrom or sherzer pitch you have to stop whatever your doing because this is pure art
That 0-2 101mph painted fastball to end the game by Diaz was incredible
it really was!
So was the call
No matter how recent DeGrom just returned, his stuff can’t be underestimated.
mannn pitching ninja is the most consistent thing in my world, is that bad?
i thought about it
its pretty good
I had a panic attack when you didn’t post yesterday, hope all the power is working fine now!
Ha--thanks! It was out most of the day yesterday. Sucked.
@3:30 for people who might not know, PFP stands for pitchers fielding practice lol. Love to see Ninja use terms like this.
Thanks Ninja, made my Friday full of filth, but the right kind of filth!
We're privileged to get to watch DeGrom pitch. He's something else!
I was chugging water and nearly choked laughing at “Jesus Lizard”
Spencer Strider - "most of it was bad luck" 🤣
how do u gather this stuff?
Burnes is coming for that cy young.... Everyone thought it was over at halfway point, burnes is the best.
Crazy that deGrom started as a mediocre SS at Stetson.

DeGrom 102 mph Fastball start
Diaz 102mph Fastball end
earliest i've been to a video
I still find it crazy that ohtani’s 2.8 era has the same era+ as his 3.2 era last year. Pitchers have just been going absolutely crazy this year!

Matt Olson went through it yesterday
Degrom is better than a video game pitcher. You can get that fast with that break in the show.

edwin diaz and degrom are the same pitcher
I like Mckenzie his breaking ball is elite when he’s on
No Helsley vs Yanks? I mean, he did give up a homer to DJ, but he struck out Aaron Judge, nuff said!

No Helsly showed
I wonder what would happen if they stretched Diaz out. 🤔
bumgardner and romo 2012

you might want to mention the fact that degrom was perfect through 5 and 2/3. No big deal tho lol
Yawn. It's just what he does.
Roger clemens and Mo might be better maybe
Julio urias 7 or more k’s
