  • The latest music from Whitechapel has me looking at this band from a completely different perspective... The lyrical content and storytelling has evolved into absolute masterpieces, and this song really drives the emotion home in connection with this music video. In this reaction, we talk a little gear like normal, but put the main focus on vocalist Phil Bozeman's deeply personal lyrics and emotions.

Phil Bozeman is one of the few artists who can make me emotionally connect to any type of music. As much as I listen to music it is rare for me to get emotionally invested. Whitechapel has evolved to the point where any song they play is well written and impactful to me, even when I don't actually like it.

The change in your face/demeanor during the first chorus said it all. This song is super emotionally powerful, I'm still amazed that vocalists can make it through songs so personal.

Props to you man for showing some emotion during your reactions. I know that’s not easy to do and some people see it as being “weak” or “unmanly”. Forget that noise. Phil missing his parents so much that he fantasizes about resurrecting them from the dead is absolutely heartbreaking and sad. This song weirdly made me want to take better care of myself so I can be there for my daughter in the long run and she doesn’t have to grow up without a dad. Killer reaction as always.

I never really listened to WhiteChapel much but recently caught an interview headline and went into the new singles and ‘The Valley’ knowing Phil’s story. I watched this song and it hits because both my parents are gone, and there is a person walking free who is responsible for the loss of my mom. And it’s hard and I get what Phil talks about when he talks about his alternate reality self. There is an alternate reality me who sometimes on those bad days wants to go crazy, just release and make it an eye for eye. But like Phil the good self dominates and you don’t act on it, but it is in your head. I’ve got a new level of appreciation for this band now. Never had anything as brutal as this song make me tear up before.

Man, sorry for your pain and loss but thank you for sharing your story with me. And what they are doing with their music right now is the main reason I love music to begin with... Stuff that you can connect with on an emotional level that you just FEEL.

    This album is just killa.
The musicians do what they do best, and those fucking lyrics go straight to the heart 🖤
And a second note, I personally think that everyone that loves music, gets emotionally touched by it.
I know I do, by all kind of music.
And still to this day, I can get emotional by an old song that I listened, to for example when somebody close to me died, my wedding day and all kind of other stuff.
    Music is life...

I saw the Orphan premiere and was blown away. Missed this one today but have to say, with The Valley, how emotional that was and following the story, to this song...it exceeded my expectations. This one as brutal as it was made me tear up. You most definetly can feel the pain, love, anger and all his emotions in his work. This one hit home. I only lost my dad when I was really young. Stepdad was abusive af. Him having the dreams of killing. I have been there. Feeling that want to have your parent/s back. I can fully relate. The Valley and the songs so far from Kin are really hitting home. Phil is an amazing artists. Been grateful to have had the chance to see them a few times. Even live, you definetly feel the emotion and power of what he is singing about. I look forward to more work by Whitechapel. They never cease to amaze.

On "The Valley" musically it was really surprising to hear how they were evolved, that new sound, kinda ballad-ish songs and especially Phil's vocals took me off guard. But now, with "Orphan" I can only respect the diversity of his voice. And the amount of emotion, all the longing, pain, sorrow and suffering you can sense here. Just wow.
I've always loved his voice and the band also, but this'll gonna be a new chapter

100% agree with you're saying about Phil's clarity and enunciation.
Between him and Joe from Fit for an Autopsy, they're pushing the envelope of the genre for "good" vocals.
The way they can get such visceral ferocity and guttural tonality yet you can understand damn near every word they say. It's much more like the roar of a lion or something - in that it sounds so articulate and natural - than the usual death metal vocals which end up sounding like a garbage disposal unit with some varying mouth shapes, and just end up blending into the sonic wall of the instruments. Phil and Joe truly stand out as their own part of the composition.

never really hit it off with this band musically, but can see how especially Phils delivery together with the more personal stories and lyrics (also on The Valley) is something definitely unique and outstanding in deathcore today and the band - rightfully so although I can not do much with them musically - is one of the more interesting, prominent and successful acts today.

There are two things that I really love about this video...
First: holy flippin' hell, I am a huge fan of Whitechapel, but I didn't recognize they have new stuff out. So thanks a lot Tank :D
Second: In the background of the "talking breaks" Lorna Shore can be heard and I'm heavily diggin' their new stuff. My first thought was that only I would just be haunted by them, so that I would hear them everywhere, but in this special case they were really audible...not only for me ;-D

only a deeply emphatic person would connect to the emotional side of this song. the ability of feeling someone else's pain is truly a blessing and a curse. up until deepdiveing into the lyrics, and now with your brief explanation of Phil's history related to this track, i just thought of this song as a badass track that you can headbang ur ass off. the emotional aspect adds so much more to it. i know im late to this vid, but thank you, Tank, i actually learn so much from your videos. In my early years, until I was 3 years old I was an orphan. It's already 30 years ago. But still. This whole album got me into tears. Maybe some unresolved issues, emotions... The anger emotions he feels, I feel towards my biological mother. It's a feeling I get because she left me with much disappointment, lies and even more questions. Maybe it's not only angry but also frustration. I've always had a connection with this band since the start. I relate to their music a lot. What a rollercoaster this is.

Definitely gonna go back and give The Valley some playtime until Kin drops next week, you’ve inspired me lol.
You know, it’s crazy man, in most cases when it comes to lyrical content, I seldom connect on a level that you do, but that’s mainly because this kind of music often lends itself to situations that are broken, and quite frankly I’m one of the fortunate few who have loving parents, the only variable being that my mother is no longer with us due to lung cancer, but she and my dad have always been my foundation. Point being, when it comes to songs that bring forth lyrical content about the loss of parents, it strikes a chord for sure. Phil’s a different breed, man. I can’t wait to see what stories he has yet to tell.
Also, it’s okay to vent, don’t be afraid to let that shit out, it feels good lol. See you in the next one, brother.

Also, I live in Bristol Virginia so I'm less than 2 hours from Knoxville Tennessee. I got to see them around 2010 in Knoxville at their "coming home" show. They headlined the bill with Chelsea Grin, Veil of Maya, and The Acacia Strain opening in that order. It was an amazing show. Every band absolutely killed it that night! I hope I can catch them again when they tour for this album.

Dude this is second video I seen you do you are awesome love how you talk about the band and the instruments they use. But white chapel is about that only band I make sure and check out the meaning. Phil is fucking amazing.

When I listened to the valley when it first released it got me to shed some tears and with this single and the previous singles leading up to Kin I can say that without a doubt I love how Phil and the rest of guys in whitechapel can make something that is heavily impactful. Also I agree with you Tank I love it when bands add that emotional appeal to their music and the only bands that were able to get me to cry while listening to a record easily were Spiritbox with Eternal Blue and Archictects with Holy Hell. I seriously can't wait for this record and there are some aspects that I can relate to when it comes to Phil's background with my dad's part of the family but yeah this is one record I am really looking forward to🤘

I'm there with you Tank...I just listed to Orphan today and damn...I haven't emotionally connected to a song since Metallica's To Live is to Die. This album is going to be amazing. 🤘🏼

The video(s) Tank reacts to everyone can view without watching ROADIE REACTIONS, so I just want to focus on Tank himself on his Channel TankTheTech: For me it is absolutely amazing how passionate Tank analyzes this video again. Tank is, why I watch ROADIE REACTIONS with TankTheTech. Its by far more emotional than watching the videos his reacts to separately. Thank you so much Tank for your heart & soul you give...!!!
