Devin Townsend Project - Death Of Music live at royal albert hall. i get tears in my eyes every time i watch it still. deadhead funeral and death of music are must watches from that performance wether on video or not. VinAnd Sori forever!
You get tears in your eyes and Devin himself gets goosebumps during the performance. Who has ever seen that in a musician performing his/her own music? Please do this reaction, guys! Also the lyrics are very interesting to decode ;)
Seeing that show and retinal circus have been two of the best things I've ever seen. Retinal circus was even my other half and my one year anniversary. Fucking incredible and yup, the death of music just sent chills...
You guys probably wont see this, as this video has been around for so long, but I often find myself revisiting Devy reactions, they are always the most satisfying. I've heard accounts of people asking Devy about the meaning of this song, and it often recounts as battling with depression, something very personal to him. July in her eyes (especially for us Canadians) means a bright, or joyful time, she is masking her depression with the happy look in her eyes, but in reality she is lying, not just to people looking in, but also to herself. If you approach the song with this knowledge it's a crazy experience, you really begin to empathize with depression.
Devin Townsend is the SHIT!!! He, Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeltd, Mariusz Duda.....all create on a different level than the rest of us. Lyrically DT can be a little indirect, but he let's his musical expression convey his message/story....a disappearing quality in music today. Not everything needs to be so straight forward. It makes the listening more rewarding.....
eric kittinger I agree completely. Sadly any chance was lost months ago, as they would get drowned out by all the " extreme" stuff. I gave up back in May.....
14:11 onwards-Wow! For me, this is the 95th Vin & Sori video, and *this* is the one where *Vin* says *the* most crucial, important, grounded things about us *humans* so far. Too many people go into relationships for reasons that will lead *more* *likely* (but not 100% certainly) into sad results in the long run, than had they gone into a relationship for the reason that is the right one for them. Complex subject.
Fun fact. The music video seems to be partly inspired by the music video for a song called Transdermal Celebration by Ween. There is kind of a cataclysm deal happening with people turning into shrubs and trees. Devin also did a cover of Trandermal Celebration as the final song on this album. We can surmise then Ween is probably a big influence.
Lynchpin2010 yes it is, but the RAH version is tops IMO. I would love them to do some stuff from the Plovdiv show, they would love the orchestra but unfortunately all the RUclips videos have shit quality.
He has a song called Storm - about his wife - he's been married a very long time and perhaps they are both very different now due to 'bending a life of storms' - perhaps he's saying "I still love you" the way you were and how you've grown (with me).
When I first saw the video I didn't care for it, but on every repeat since then it just gets better. His voice actually sounds like it could command Mother Nature haha.
Devin, much like Ihsahn, is a very introspective and self-aware lyricist - he very often will use love stories (after all, he has been happily married for 27 years) or metaphors/allegories of (inter)personal relationships to share his own self conflict. For example he has said on a couple occasions that Stormbending in particular is very simplistically about dealing with the hardships that are presented to you, being able to "bend" and overcome whatever negative feelings may be overwhelming you at any given time so that you may flourish past it. I'm glad you're doing some more of his work, great job!
Vigridr i was about to say the same thing about this song. His lyrics are often slightly esoteric in their metaphors. Once you know his general intent in the song, the lyrics fall into place. The video helps on this one, showing the bending of those troubles/storms around them.
I once had a friend say to me something along the lines of "Devin's lyrics are terrible." He had only heard SYL and the Physicist album at that point. I showed him a few interviews with Heavy Devy himself, and introduced him to the Terraria album and some DTP--his attitude quickly changed.
Devin's from Vancouver, it rains there more often than not. Devin has said this song is about depression personified as a storm, and how we have the power to bend those storms and find happiness.
In the event that you haven't listened to it yet; Devin Townsend Project has a song off of the album Epicloud entitled 'Angel' that has a "worship" feel to it, which you both might very well enjoy.
The big advertising point made for the album this song was on was this being the first DTP album that was written collaborate with Devin’s band members. Usually Devin writes the entire thing. The song “Failure” seems to be a specific song where the entire band had input. Also ya’ll gotta check out “Adora Vivos “ by Woods Of Ypres
Time to something different you havent heard before. Doom death from Faroe Islands in that language. Hamferð - Deyðir varðar. pronounced Hamferd! Beautiful track and voice. Amazing clean vocals and growl vocals later on. I´ve found some english translation. Lyrics: Cold is this new night I swallow the dew's bitter frost Nothing can be seen And nothing can be felt The grey light grants no comfort Suddenly I couldn't see you And didn't know of your way Suddenly I took a step off course And the fog took you I see my shattered shadow sink in mud I see no cairns where they were before Punishment for weakness Punishment for cold love Payment for selfish goals Payment for wounds on a beautiful soul Suddenly I couldn't see you And didn't know of your way Suddenly I took a step off course And the fog took you I see my shattered shadow sink in mud I see no cairns where they were before Lonely you Where are you now Are you lost like me? Night surrounds me But without you I'm going nowhere
You described my faith through this song mixed with Christianity and relationship, with the deeper blend. This is very much appreciated. You covered every angle and I love it.
Hi y'all! I love watching your videos. You both are so insightful and entertaining. This is one of my favorite DTP songs. I think this song is about a few things. The relationship aspect like you both stated. I think this song is also about fighting "The storm" of depression and or mental illness. Time is a human construct and you were below the waves could be interpreted as those times when you're battling depression... time moves forward and you're being left behind because of your struggles. Or you're trying to keep your head above water and keep up with everyone while struggling with depression but you're below the waves and drowning. I think the July was in her eyes section is about how people that are depressed or struggling with something mentally will act like everything is ok. You show "July" (happiness, clear skies) in your eyes but it's a lie. You're lying to yourself and others by pretending. You can't truly let your soul fly until you acknowledge your issues and try to work through them. I think the China Town thing is specific to someone from his past. I don't think he's referring to himself when saying "All we're offering is a chance to be loved". I think he's saying to individuals who because they are struggling may push people away and isolate themselves. I think he's speaking to them to open up and allow yourself to accept the offer of others to love you and help you. So stormbending to me is the act of a person hiding the internal storm. And, it could also refer to the act of someone helping another bend the storm by helping them with love and compassion. I'm sorry. I know that was a long and rambling message. Thank you for another great reaction!!
Please do Ihsahn - Celestial Violence. One of the more emotionally powerful songs I've heard! Guest vocals by Einar Solberg of Leprous. And it would be really interesting to see your take on the lyrics ;)
Devin is definitely a Master if his craft. Glad u guys brought him up again. Like your interpretation as well. Shame he abandoned his solo project, but he's working on something new right now so we will see what time is gonna bring. We are waiting for another MGŁA reaction folks!!!
Narcoser Rasalom I heard an interview with him a week ago. He basically is at the point where he wants to hire touring musicians because he feels so bad not being able to help all the fellow DTP members get out all their creativity as well as his own. He hates being the guy others are trying to help rather then him being the helper. It was a fascinating interview.
I personally interpret this song as mourning a friend or loved one’s decent into spiritual madness, deception and ego. I’m a witch, btw. Love your channel.
If you guys want to hear a great song about spirituality with Devin Townsend, look up "Grace" from the Retinal Circus. That exact video is like a religious experience. You will feel lifted up!! It's like a Metal Church! Check it out. You will be amazed!!!
The Black Dahlia Murder - Deathmask Devine Pallbearer - Dancing with Madness Cannibal Corpse - Unleashing the bloodthristy Watain - The light that burns tge sun Burst - (we watched) the silver rain Stream of Passion - The art of loss
here's one you two would love by Devin Townsend, "Universal Flame" (live at the Royal Albert Hall)... (by the way, for me, it's about love among your friends, family, and acquaintances. Or in his case, the love can come from his fans)
Check out another of Devin's songs Heaven Send. Not a very popular pick, but it's a fantastic song, and it deals with loss of one's faith. And it has a very cool live version.
Dimmu Borgir - Serpentine Offering Me and that man (any song) Demon Hunter - Storm the Gates of Hell Impending doom - Death. ascension. resurrection Johnathan Davis - Everyone King 810 - Trauma Model
As much as I like Stormbending, it's more for the instrumentals. I love Devin's work, but sometimes his lyrics can be a little confusing at times. Obviously, he has a theme he's going for in this song, but I guess I never understood what it was. But I tell you what, his live playthrough at the Plovdiv is insane.
An earlier song of Devin's called "In the Rainy Season", July is mentioned very often. He's from the Vancouver area, perhaps they have very rainy Julys? Sori's breakdown certainly makes more sense to me than anything else, though. This song has been just word salad to me. Jesus, Vin hates good music.
Nice reaction Vin & Sori! You just HAVE to react to: Eye of the Enemy - The Shift. It is the best metal song ever created. Have had some other reaction channels reacting to it and they were all totally amazed. Some discussable lyrics in there too! It is Australian melodic death metal! Cheers, William
You guys are lovely. Stating the obvious shouldn't be a food for jealousy. You're both beautiful in many ways. Pretending the contrary would be lying. So please accept the compliments just as they are, not everyone is a psychotic obsessed criminal with a masterful plan to break someone life. A danger with this kind of work that you do is to become unaware that we can't always be right. Keep that in mind and know that your loved :)!
I wish you'd do Leprous, Riverside or at least Celestial Violence by Ihsahn (featuring the Leprous vocalist)... I guess you don't check youtube for suggestions anymore 😔
I can see Christ in this, myself. Video starts in a world under apocalyptic structure. There was no way for the kids (us) to bring the Earth back to a pure and innocent world. Devin and his band ultimately sacrificed themselves in order to bring the rains to cleanse the Earth thus saving the kids. Christ died on the cross and saved us with His own blood so we have the option to be free
Please react to the new single "Rats" by Ghost. The lead singer changes character with this album, and with this album, and the single "Rats", he has taken on the moniker of Cardinal Corpia, a highly corrupt Cardinal in Catholic religion with a very distorted interpretation of the bible. It's awesome! Check the music video if you can too, there's a lot of dancing.
I thought Vin rated this one way low. I'm with Sori, its about an 8 for me. Love that tapping section in the middle leading to the solo. Don't forget about Wintersun Vin! Loneliness (Winter) man, you need to know more than one song (Sons of Winter and Stars) going into the show! Also should think about doing another Ne Obliviscaris song. Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise is a really good one. They were playing that one on their last tour. But hey, what to I know, according to homeboy Metal Elitist I shouldn't be listening to metal cause I haven't been through enough shit. smh....
You guys need to do more MGLA! Look at my name! You guys should do Mdlosci I, it’s probably my favorite song of theirs by far. I’m telling you guys, they will become your favorite metal band. After Mdłosci I, I’d say you really like (especially on first listen) Excercises in futility V, I, With Hearts Towards None VII. I mean every song they make is amazing but those are easily their most popular. Please guys?
I've been waiting for this one. HevyDevy is a killer! If I may add, I wish you showed more love to Deathcore bands like Thy Art is Murder. Make Them Suffer (another awesome aussie band) - Ether would be a good one; Think Devin Townsend meets TAIM!
Shadows Fall - “What Drives the Weak is also another I’d like to see a react to. I also mentioned a few covers in my last comment. I love older songs that have been redone thru metal. If you haven’t heard before, check out Kittie - “Run Like Hell” on their second album Oracle originally done by Pink Floyd. Absolutely awesome cover! !,,,! !,,,!
Lör’s debut album was voted Angry Metal Guy’s album of the year 2017. You should check out the epic Eidolon or the shorter fast playing Dark Clouds. Even my 8 year old son loves this album. His favourite is Song for the Lost.
Devin T. is especially good live - and a good lyricist. =) But please do Sabaton! "Resist and Bite" is my recommendation, entertainment and a historical lesson all in one :D
Y'all are a beautiful couple. I really enjoy your reactions and your analysis of song lyrics. Slipknot is one of my favorite bands so I've really liked the Slipknot reactions. Have a blessed day! 😀
Great, uplifting song! To Sori's 'worship song' point, his album Epicloud is close ... Kingdom, Grace, True North, and Angel are quite gospel like even though Devin is not religious. Devin is the best on stage. Hoping he tours again soon in some form.
B Well I was gonna say the same. Epicloud is the closest you’ll get to a ‘worship’ song/album from him, seeing that he is not religious. He’s atheist. Agnostic at most. Actually Epicloud would be an awesome whole album review. So many colours and beauty alongside interesting vibes.
While we are on a Devin Townsend ride, you guys should listen to "Deadhead" ruclips.net/video/DrDM6V08wcE/видео.html. I'd really love to hear what you think of this one. It's one of his better songs musically and lyrically it is simple and deep.
The closet thing you’ll get to Devin being spiritual is stuff off the Epicloud album. It’s basically a religious/ spirituality album without complete direct reference to it, but we all know he is. It’s a very beautiful, epic( All Devin Townsend is epic) album.
Devin Townsend Project - Death Of Music live at royal albert hall. i get tears in my eyes every time i watch it still. deadhead funeral and death of music are must watches from that performance wether on video or not. VinAnd Sori forever!
Death of music is just a masterpiece
You get tears in your eyes and Devin himself gets goosebumps during the performance. Who has ever seen that in a musician performing his/her own music? Please do this reaction, guys! Also the lyrics are very interesting to decode ;)
Seeing that show and retinal circus have been two of the best things I've ever seen. Retinal circus was even my other half and my one year anniversary. Fucking incredible and yup, the death of music just sent chills...
This song is about him feeling the onslaught of depression and him preparing to fight it. So Devon says in an interview.
You guys probably wont see this, as this video has been around for so long, but I often find myself revisiting Devy reactions, they are always the most satisfying. TwinRavens Mariusz Duda, not enough Riverside anywhere on reaction channels. Their loss ultimately.
eric kittinger I agree completely. Sadly any chance was lost months ago, as they would get drowned out by all the " extreme" stuff. I gave up back in May.....
TwinRavens yeah I've given up too. I'm sick of all the same stuff being reacted to. Especially Tool.
Devy is from Vancouver. It's always rainy in The 'couver.
You two are just the greatest couple on youtube. Sori is so adorable and kind! You're a lucky man Vin. :D
14:11 onwards-Wow! For me, this is the 95th Vin & Sori video, and *this* is the one where *Vin* says *the* most crucial, important, grounded things about us *humans* so far. 16:35 Whoa! *Sori* was actually the one to reference the Bible first-it's usually always Vin!
Seems like Devin is a good indirect marriage counselor
He's a everything counselor.
"Grace" is a good spiritual Devin Townsend song!? You'd like that.
Devin Townsend Project - Funeral, Bastard, and The Death of Music live at the royal Albert hall!
The version(s) from Plovdiv is also spectacular :)
Lynchpin2010 yes it is, but the RAH version is tops IMO. I would love them to do some stuff from the Plovdiv show, they would love the orchestra but unfortunately all the RUclips videos have shit quality.
Yyyyyyyyyyaaaaassssssss
Yes, this
A lot of Devins music is "religious" in a sense. Especially to those of us that are fans. So many of his songs hit you right in your soul.
He has a song called Storm - about his wife - he's been married a very long time and perhaps they are both very different now due to 'bending a life of storms' - perhaps he's saying "I still love you" the way you were and how you've grown (with me).

Doom death from Faroe Islands in that language.
Hamferð - Deyðir varðar. pronounced Hamferd! Beautiful track and voice.
Amazing clean vocals and growl vocals later on. I´ve found some english translation.
Lyrics:
Cold is this new night
I swallow the dew's bitter frost
Nothing can be seen
And nothing can be felt
The grey light grants no comfort
Suddenly I couldn't see you
And didn't know of your way
Suddenly I took a step off course
And the fog took you
I see my shattered shadow sink in mud
I see no cairns where they were before
Punishment for weakness
Punishment for cold love
Payment for selfish goals
Payment for wounds on a beautiful soul
Suddenly I couldn't see you
And didn't know of your way
Suddenly I took a step off course
And the fog took you
I see my shattered shadow sink in mud
I see no cairns where they were before
Lonely you
Where are you now
Are you lost like me?
Night surrounds me
But without you
I'm going nowhere
Yeah no one has done them. I've suggested Hamferd numerous times on several channels. I prefer the live in a church recording of the song Vràin.
You described my faith through this song mixed with Christianity and relationship, with the deeper blend. This is very much appreciated. You covered every angle and I love it.

I personally interpret this song as mourning a friend or loved one’s decent into spiritual madness, deception and ego. I’m a witch, btw. Love your channel.
What do you mean that you are a witch?
You guys should check out "Juular" by Devin Townsend.

Always an instant like for Devin! Great reaction as always!
Devin Townsend The Death of Music Live at The Albert Hall.
Amazing song i absolutely love it
Devin is Awesome!
Mister Skarred ehh, they're overrated haha
Tons of love for Hevy Devy. Unbelievably nice guy, too.
Check out another of Devin's songs Heaven Send. Not a very popular pick, but it's a fantastic song, and it deals with loss of one's faith. And it has a very cool live version.
You guys live in Maine? I lived in New Hampshire for the first 25 years of my life.
Dimmu Borgir - Serpentine Offering
Me and that man (any song)
Demon Hunter - Storm the Gates of Hell
Impending doom - Death. ascension. resurrection
Johnathan Davis - Everyone
King 810 - Trauma Model
These two are super religious, I don't think they'd like Dimmu Borgir to be honest.
Katatonia- undo you
I got notified 19 minutes after upload this time
BLIND GUARDIAN - Valhalla live(imaginations through the looking glass), please soon please :)
Go Sori GO PREACH
Every single song, and every single thing you say is directly talking about God :)
As much as I like Stormbending, it's more for the instrumentals. I love Devin's work, but sometimes his lyrics can be a little confusing at times. Sori's breakdown certainly makes more sense to me than anything else, though. This song has been just word salad to me.
Jesus, Vin hates good music.
He certainly does seem to.
Steven Wilson - Routine. It's a must. It makes me cry anytime.
whats up with your hand do you have an issue to much redbull?
Nice reaction Vin & Sori! You just HAVE to react to: Eye of the Enemy - The Shift. It is the best metal song ever created. Have had some other reaction channels reacting to it and they were all totally amazed. Some discussable lyrics in there too! It is Australian melodic death metal!

Devin tours with TESSERACT quite a bit. Only natural for you to FINALLY do some Tesseract on the channel guys. The song is called NOCTURNE.

we usually have thunderstorms in july here. Alberta has pretty random weather though.

But please do Sabaton! "Resist and Bite" is my recommendation, entertainment and a historical lesson all in one :D
Gotta check out "Ih-Ah" by Devin Townsend. You'll love it.
Y'all are a beautiful couple. I really enjoy your reactions and your analysis of song lyrics. Slipknot is one of my favorite bands so I've really liked the Slipknot reactions. Have a blessed day! 😀
React to Alcest - Autre Temps pls. The song somehow evokes samey vibes as this one does.
great vid! as always! :D
Try react to "The phantom of the opera - Nightwish" and "Disturbed - the Light", these are real masterwork! :D
He starts the empath tour in nov
Well lookey there. Commented yesterday and boom. A DTP video 🤘🏻
PS: This isnt live 😜
Now would be a perfect time to react to Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize (live in tilburg). I promise it will be worth your time!
What's is gonna cost to have you react to the entire ziltoid album???
You like Devin's vocals? Check out Dir En Grey "Dozing Green" or "Lotus" live to see another one of metals insane vocalists.
This song
(day 19) Iron Maiden-Rime of the Ancient Mariner
EPICA - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith)
Sepultura - desperate cry
While we are on a Devin Townsend ride, you guys should listen to "Deadhead" ruclips.net/video/DrDM6V08wcE/видео.html. I'd really love to hear what you think of this one. It's one of his better songs musically and lyrically it is simple and deep.
Now this is my kind of music. Epicness. and great real singing.
Holy cow. Devin and the song were the smallest part of this video.
Architects - Gone With The Wind
August Burns Red - Beauty In Tragedy
Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, Limelight.- Rush
Has anyone suggested Therion before? Nightside of Eden, for example.
The closet thing you’ll get to Devin being spiritual is stuff off the Epicloud album. It’s basically a religious/ spirituality album without complete direct reference to it, but we all know he is. It’s a very beautiful, epic( All Devin Townsend is epic) album.
He is not religious.
@@ChrisPage68 don't have to be to do music about it.
Devin is a genius
And now for something completely different? Amelia - Joni Mitchell.
Must, Must look into Neal Morse, his solo career, post Spock's Beard, or just listen to SB " Snow " which lead to him going Christian prog .
Hotel Books - Nothing was the same or Constant Conflicts please! :)
THE DEATH OF MUSIC LIVE AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL prettypleez
Ok I like this one
A Perfect Circle - The Noose!
Katatonia - Leaders
Primordial-Lying with the wolfs.
It rains EVERY day in Florida in July lol
