- “Whoever had contact with Boone will have felt a force of a person,” says BD Athlete Sam Elias. To take it a step further, if you’re a climber, you’ve likely felt the force of Boone without having ever met him. Maybe you’ve tried one of his routes, which span across the western US like constellations, telling the story of progression for hard sport climbing in this expansive country. Or perhaps you’ve just picked up a climbing magazine at some point in the last decade and seen a photograph that has stirred a deep emotion inside your soul, caused your palms to sweat and inspired you to rope up again and again. Glancing at the byline, that ubiquitous name-Boone Speed-sits against the glossy page. The truth is that Boone, for many of us, is a living legend. From his routes and standard-raising ascents to his photos documenting this game we play in the vertical, Mr. Speed has helped sculpt what this sport is today. This film, made by Mike Call, is the story of climbing’s consummate artist.

0:20 it is dumb. I think that's why I love it so much. Makes a whole lot more sense than many of the things in this world.
Damn, that was inspiring AF.
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you Mike for digging up all of the old footage and putting together such a great story here. Definitely stuck me and people of my generation in climbing like a blade. Damn near perfect, thanks again.
Thanks Jonathan!
My home crag is American Fork Canyon. I'm lucky to live 20 minutes away. My first 5.13 was one of Boone's routes and I'm working another one of his classics right now. No denying he was at the forefront to pave the way for hard sport climbing for everyone, but he's still paving personal climbing journeys for others today through his routes, his art, his innovations, and more. True pioneer and inspiration. Respect.
Nice to see the old school footage, I enjoyed it
... right everyone looks so much more engaged
love everything about this film!
I love films like this. Amazing work!
What an amazing, stunningly beautiful film. Its a real unfathomable precious thing ❤ x
Great portrait and documentary. Thank you!
Amazing! I starting climbing at 33. You are inspiring us!! Thanks!
one of the best videos I've seen for a long time
Extremely inspiring film. What a way to start out my day. I will remember this one for a long time, not necessarily for how hard anyone climbed or how beautiful it was but for how it made me feel.
Thank you mike for such an inspiring film.
The way that Boone makes you feel , is the way you are making me feel , with your poetic words and Inspiring revelation of your story . I adore every single bit of this film. Thank you again
Amazing! I loved how the stills were mixed with the video footage. So good
There's this film called "My Octopus Teacher" where the film maker befriends a wild octopus and follows her for a year. During filming the octopus is attacked by a shark and loses an arm. When Boone and Mike lose their parents it reminded me of that film. Our parents are the arms that lift us up, and they eventually leave us. The octopus in the film regrows her arm, and like Boone and Mike they regrow their arm through the connections with their friends. Lovely film!
absolutely love "My Octopus Teacher" 10/10 highly recommended
that movie was great
I want what you’re smoking
Wow 😲 it's a wonderful story, projects, history. Nice shoot, nice climb, thank you for this film. Rip for your family and, continue to live this history!
The stuff BD puts out never leaves me disappointed!
this is well done, puts a lot in perspective - beyond climbing, art and photography.... "how much better does is get"? best line.

Everything Mike Call does is awesome. Met him once in LCC and he was so nice and encouraging. Frequent Flyers and the short "Black Lung" are two of my favorite climbing films.

I have great memories climbing with all these guys back in '90 and '91. Really enjoyed seeing all the familiar faces in the old footage.

sick vid. What a badass
Nice work Mike. Harmy.
Used to see Boone and Mike around SLC areas when I lived there in the early 2000s. Always nice and polite to me. Good guys. Even before I lived there, I'd bought pusher holds for my home wall in Cali in the 90s. Boones footprints were all over back then.
Goddamn I'm old.

Do you guys know if there is anywhere to get the image /poster @ 17.53 ?
Awe-some.
The picture at 21:29 is incredible. Brought some tears. Is there any way I can download that/buy it so that I can set it as my background?
make sure quality is set to 1080p and take a screenshot. simple
I don't think its downloadable but I'll see if he'll make it available.
My Gpa died and I lost my MIND.
Wouldn't fallin into the water ruin the chalk
Clicks on climbing video fist sentence “climbing is dumb” 😂
I'm a native Utahn. Black Diamond moved to Utah because it's a right to work state and BD could profit from cheap workers and labor laws that benefit the wealthy10%. In doing this BD became blind to Utahns rejection of environmental protection.
Looking for a sponsor 😂
BD it’s your turn
Dramatic like every american story.
please!!! Subtitle this !!!
What a way to start. “Climbing is dumb.”
Karan
Synopsis: Climber bro is a jerk, but he takes okay photos, so...
Climbing the reason why i lied to my wife 😂😂🤣
This doesn't paint Boone in the most flattering light. Perhaps accuracy was valued more than flattery.
Who came from jared leto's twitter ?
