    What a crazy competitor Avellan is agreeing to a heel hook restart. I'd rather lose with my knee in one piece

    Why the fuck would anyone want to restart with Palhares from that position?

  • @ddbarton29
    @ddbarton29 10 лет назад +126

    Ref was stupid to restart in the middle of a deep submission. David was stupid for asking for a restart after he tapped, and in the same position. That was a trainwreck.

    • @Makinja
      @Makinja 7 лет назад +6

      That's what I thought at first, but on review they were rolling out of bounds, so it appears ref then called stop. As to Avellan going with the restart, that's his call with the hook that deep, since he could have forfeited and lived to fight another day, but being the competitor he gave it a go.

    my old coach is a brazilian who trained at btt in rio and said that palhares is friendly but just really uneducated and not all there in the head. he said that many times when he would see rousimar for the first time in a long time, rousimar would get all happy and hug him so tight that it felt like rousimar was breaking his ribs. my coach said that he just doesnt know his own strength and u have to be careful when hugging him because he'll squueze the hell outa u.

    Although Palhares should have let go sooner the first time, he still followed the rules. As for Avellan, it's hard to except that you should throw in the towel at a restart. It's hard to see everything you worked hard for end up being thrown away if you throw in the towel. As bad as it was, I probably would have done the same as Avellan - confidence and heart can get mixed up a little with your pride. So it goes.

    Rewatch the vid. The ref stops them when they go out of bounds and Avellan relaxes because they're getting restarted.
    BUT THEN, Paul Harris starts cranking the heel hook again after the ref stops them for the restart, popping his knee. Look at Avellan's leg give out from under him because of Paul Harris cranking the Heel Hook after the ref called for the restart and had already put his hands on Paul Harris to stop him.

    In the first stop the sub was a heelhook, in the second stop the sub was a kneebar... they were not restarted in the same postion. The first stop was due to out of bounds, the ref started the stop, if Avellan was to get off the heelhook he would have to keep rolling further out of bounds. The referee is at fault, yet Palhares displayed "Conduct Unbecoming a Sportsman and a Gentleman" in three instances, first for not listening to the referee, second for not restarting in the same position , and third for purposely overextending the kneebar.

      Translate this: He popped his knee the first time because he kept squeezing after told to “STOP” and then he smacked him the neck that’s why he pushed him back trying to fake apologize. The second time he dislocated his knee. He’s a known cheater and steroid abuser. That’s why the UFCbanned him because he did the same to another fighter, he didn’t stop and broke another guys leg.

    Are you referring to Alan Belcher or Restarting position? I agree you with on the rule and maybe they should alter it for high level tournaments such as ADCC but then momentum is against the attacking competitor? The first Metamoris event was submission only for 20mins. No submission no win until Metamoris 2 the rules slightly changed with a few judges and hopefully the outcome is to select a winner. It is what it is for ADCC until they change those rules ;)

  • @deadlypalms

    Well the ref said stop, which caused Avellan to stop defending...hence having to then tap when the lock was on. Palhares wasn't aware of that, so understandably thought he'd won. He over-did the lock because he felt cheated - bad communication all round.
    The restart at least gave him an opportunity to defend against the lock properly, but he should have tapped earlier - the injury wouldn't have occurred if the ref had stopped it earlier or allowed them to continue on the edge of the mat.
