In my Top Three along with The Grand Wazoo, You Are What You Is, Roxy & Elsewhere and Apostrophe', although Overnite Sensation is No.6 overall but, if we just include studio albums and have a Top Five of live albums separately then Overnite Sensation is now my 5th place studio album with Roxy & Elsewhere now elevated to my No.1 live album with The Helsinki Concerts from Volume 2 of You Can't Do that On Stage Anymore series of albums..

The Grand Wazoo is my favourite Zappa album! It reminds me of mid-1960's to mid-1970's American action films starring Steve McQueen or Clint Eastwood that have that jazzy background music going on.

Absolutely, films like Bullitt and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, even the early Dirty Harry films, also early 1970's American cop/detective tv shows too, they all used a certain kind of jazzy music that just fits well with the music from The Grand Wazoo.

Enjoyed the list. My first purchase was Studio Tan with Greggery Peccary and Joe's Garage I, II and III. Got them when they came out and they sounded great on my dorm stereo and still enjoy today digitally. I think these albums sound best listening all they way through. Just picking out songs is like taking your favorite binge show and only watching one episode (or something like that). Thanks for a little memory lane fun.

My late father introduced me to the world of Zappa when I was quite young, don't eat that yellow snow of course. Overnight Sensation is AMAZING! Solo on The Slime sooooo good! My other solo favorite has to be The Muffin Man, just tasty. Frank could shred. Just picked up a used copy of The Shiek for cheap at my local shop. Not too familiar with it but it's Zappa. Great video, dig the passion 👏

    • @top5records796

I don't get the adoration of Joe's Garage. Acts 2 and 3 have some nice instrumental sections (taken from live shows) but the Central Scrutinizer gets old pretty quickly and a lot of the songs are just boring and childish potty humor.
I agree that Waka Jawaka is way, way better. As is The Yellow Shark.
