    M83 are so fucking underrated.

M83 contacted Susanne and together they wrote the song for the movie with Morgan Freeman,Andrea Riseborough,Olga Kurylenko,Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (also known for being in Game Of Thrones), Tom Cruise with alot of others too. Susannes strengths are that she nails vocal recording in the studio on her first takes. She has worked hard for her success, when she first released her songs it was categorized as "for the specially interested",so she didnt have a easy way to getting her albums heard. But she has always stayed true to her own sound, her own ideas. A full on artist, entertainer, singer, songwriter. And shes actually a pretty impressive powerhouse, just when you think she has reached her limits and shes about to crack, her voice tells you something different. I know many has done the failure of comparing her to Floor Jansen (vocalist of Nightwish) Im a selfproclaimed "Floor-a-holic",but even i want people to do Susanne justice. As Susanne has a much lighter, sweeter voice then Floor that is just all out powerful, versatile and been trained in multiple vocal styles for the really high long lasting notes, growls etc. Alot of people tend to compare Susannes voice up against Floors (Floors also sings Symphonic Metal,so she does rock inspired covers,Susanne is more folk music, pop and even some "dance, electronica" (Mostly her collabs). So the genres speak for themselfs too,Floor puts more power into her vocals, while Susanne often chooses a "soothing style". But she can go really powerful too,if she feels the songs need it.
I call Susanne our secret weapon there,as she is also such a genuine, caring, wonderful personality and humanbeing. She has after all her hard work won "Norwegian Grammies",as well as several other music rewards. Funfact: She has played both jazz and classical music early on in her career, and her music style today is sort of a good hybrid of both.
More detailed info regarding how they met i heard you mention now. Okay,so it started back in March 2013. Anthony Gonzalez from M83 and Susanne Sundfør reached out to one another. M83 i think had heard her do several songs with Röyksopp (Directly translated, the name is: Smoking Mushroom,i have heard someone call them Magic Mushrooms too) And both Röyksopp and M83 are doing much of the same type of genre music. Alot of emotional, relaxing, moody dance music.
Anyway,M83 really loved Susannes voice. So Susanne and Anthony quickly found out how the songs end product should sound like,so they started writing the lyrics together.
The movie Oblivion premiered 12th of April 2013,and by then M83 and Susanne Sundfør (the ending is pronounced "fur") had the song ready to go for the soundtrack.
Another funfact, her song "Fade Away" got featured on the British Tv Serie Show called: Made In Chelsea. Thats a song i would recommend, its very catchy and very "pop-ish and groovy". Here is the title of a really good performance she did for our third biggest radio station, that also produces live concert shows etc:
Lene Marie Fossen (the photographers name) and her story. She did not only do the soundtrack for the documentary, but she out of her own will and kindness of her heart, followed and stood by Lene Marie Fossen until her last minutes at the hospital. Comforting Lene Maries mom afterwards as well. If you think you can handle it,and see just how amazing Susanne is: Susanne Sundfør - When The Lord.
Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau in 2001. They do provide vocals within the band, but they often seek good vocalist to add something special to certain songs. Besides, they love to collab with vocalists they have listened to alot. Interesting fact: The band's name is taken from the spiral galaxy Messier 83.
M83 is now mainly based in Los Angeles,California where they are trying to make a breakthrough with theyr music. Todays members: Anthony Gonzalez,Yann Gonzalez (the brother of Anthony,he came in to help out after Nicolas wanted out of the band),Morgan Kibby (aka "White Sea",female composer, singer and songwriter from Alaska,USA. She has also been an actress earlier, and is often seen playing the keyboards for M83) & finally Loic Maurin (mainly plays the drums, but can play bass/guitar too)
Another good one from M83: M83 - Reunion (official Music Video)
If you dont like any of the 2 above,im sure you will love this one,and i found you a live link with all the current members playing live on,that shouldnt get you into block trouble:

I see i must have derped or it cut out parts of my text lol. Here is the title of Fade Away performed live: P3 Gull 2014: Susanne Sundfør - Fade away. And what was meant by "Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau in 2001,was that they founded the band back in 2001. I must have derped there lol,my mind trying to sort out the information, maybe i thought faster then i wrote etc lol.
Guess i can add a really good live performance with M83 for the sequel song Reunion (a sequel to Midnight City, video wise) M83 - Reunion / Solidays 2016. I recommend this live version for when you need something to cheer you up,because its that good. The chemistry between the band members and the crowd. And they sound better live then on record! M83s main inspiration is the artist Vangelis, wich was known for doing amazing live performances with tons of musicians on stage.

Nice reaction! Anthony Gonzalez, primary member of M83, wrote the soundtrack for "Oblivion". Gonzalez and Susanne Sundfør, wrote the title track "Oblivion" together. The collaboration probably arose when Sundfør was the opening-act for M83 on a European tour. Gonzales has stated that he is a big fan of her music and her voice.

My dad and I decided to play this song at his funeral. I asked him if it's ok and he loved the idea. He passed away last year and oblivion was his favorite movie and this song was his absolute favorite. Imagine how powerful this song was at the funeral. He would've loved it. So sad but the most beautiful way to say a last goodbye. 😌

Thank you for your reaction, and for checking out Susanne Sundfør’s music! Her and M83 have worked together a bit, as mentioned elsewhere she was their “warm up/opening act” on tour, Anthony Gonzalez later produced a track on Susanne’s Ten Love Songs album, and lastly they collaborate on another song - the rather jazzy For the Kids.
Hope you liked the Oblivion studio version. :)
Lots to hear from Susanne, she’s got more folk-y tunes, ballads, electronica of course, an ‘80s pop homage album, she has composed the music for a soundtrack, etc., etc. The Silicone Veil and especially The Brothel are songs I’d recommend reacting to. Preferably both the studio _and_ live versions. ;) The Brothel’s music video has something very special at the end… it’d be a shame to miss it.

I was highly influenced by my 1st grade music teacher. She would bring a record player every Monday and play a classical tune. She would make us close our eyes and try to come up with a story based on the music. When I hear the instrumental part I picture two people running to see a beautiful sunset

Difference in live versions for sure. I'm addicted to M83 drums. The in-studio version drums are much more complex and powerful. They make this song for me. My problem is I can't make the drums loud enough. This performance was top shelf none the less.

Well that is in the ear and mind of the beholder. Floor has great lungs and a strong voice. But what she lacks is the nuances, the soft and controlled part. I guess Floor need to have lots of air going tru her vocal cords to get a sound. Some people has both registry, other does have only one.
