    Just arrived back from the Falklands, I have never met more people that are British more British than British they have so much gratitude for all the men who lost their lives fighting for the freedom of the islands
    When you read the history of the islands Captain John strong first discovered the islands and yes the French ended up with a settlement there so did the Spanish even the Americans who actually saw off River Plate the name for Argentina after they gained independence from Spain but it was the British who came back and said yes ok let’s make this work in 1833 we now have Stanley it’s the ancestors of these first settlers from 1833 that are still there and it wasn’t easy these were tough tough hard working people who worked barren land it’s a mass of rock very rugged and beautiful spent many hours walking these rugged hills the West the people are really tough self sufficient but the people ancestors of those settlers from 1833 are British it’s British the culture the feel is British there is a Chilean community Filipino community and African and St Helena community a lot get British citizenship and love the place

  • @impy2d843
    @impy2d843 16 дней назад +2

    The Falklands have been ours for years! Technically the French and Spanish found them first and then later British who came third, BUT suddenly a war broke out few years later and the French and the Spanish abandoned the island and the British were left and for some reason the two nations never bothered to come back either because of lack of resources or other. And since then the Falklands rightfully belong to the British.
    And if anybody asks, am not sure if there were any natives on the island. I mean the French and the Spanish probably wiped them out or there no natives on the island.

    • @lostintranslation1957
      @lostintranslation1957 День назад

      The Spanish owned them after kicking the British out, and then the people who fought for independence against the Spanish crown, and to have a nation for themselves that became Argentina meant that the Spanish had to concentrate their army there they abandoned the Island to fight. We then crept in and took it back. Hardly gallant. The people of Argentina are still the people whose ancestors were Spanish and who owned it. so, though the country came later, the people there still have a right to claim it. That includes the British and German communities that became Argentinians.

    We Hongkongers were never ever given a vote back in 1980s to decide our future. You only knew Mrs Thatcher went to Beijing and signed a document and our fate is sealed. Look at what happened in the last few years. I wouldn't want to see the Falklanders face the same fate as we did.

    Argentina as a country, never had control of the Falklands Isles. But the River Plate Trading Company were there two or three hundred, plus years ago but left the place and gave it up and Great Britain took it over. Then the River Plate Trading Company invaded the Falklands and took control over it from the British in the mid-19th century. They held it for a year before we reclaimed it.
    Now. When the debate for how and who controls Antarctica came up, the decision was made on who owns what by the amount of area, East to West, a country has has directly in line to Antarctica.
    And the UK with the Falklands, held about 2 times more or so of that given to Argentina. It was only then, that Argentina became interested in the Falklands because of the mineral wealth that is there. Hence in 1982, they invaded. _And we all know what happened then!_
    I even had a t-shirt that said, _"Don't cry for me Argentina... 'Cause we're coming to beat the _*_**_*_ outta you!"_ *And we did. And in the process lost many good forces people.*

    Well analysed as always. I've seen a lot of newbies enquire as to whether or not it is too late to buy assets especially BTC, ETH, litecoin and maybe XRP...most having the intention to hodl these assets. I would say we should prep for all scenarios as the market has always been unpredictable. So boring that new type of analyses are coming out monthly from all analysts and youtubers. I must say trading offers far more benefits than just holding, I will advise traders esp newbies to have orientation of trading before they get involved in it. I accept things are changing and have to be reconsidered by time.... but not just that fast like these analysts and youtubers are doing. I've managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3B'tc to a decent 21B'tc in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to McDweny, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.😊

    Democracy isn't as simple as that, for instance, quite rightly. the Falklands has laws on who can and who cannot buy property on the island, this prevents the demographic slowly turning Argentinian. If you look at history there is other examples where Democracy has been manipulated in this way. Basically, in my opinion, just because a population starts to associate itself with another country, this doesn't mean they suddenly become part of that country, just means they are an ethnic group within an existing country. Otherwise you get chaos like in eastern EU,

    He said: “We are not going to relinquish our sovereignty, nor are we going to seek conflict with the United Kingdom.”
    He said taking back the Falklands from Britain would “take time” and would involve a “long-term negotiation”.
    He added: “They might not want to negotiate today. At some later point they might want to. Many positions have changed over time.”

    The Falkland islands were NEVER Argentinan territory. Britain was at war with the Dutch, many years ago, and the Falkland islands were Dutch territory, until, during that conflict, British forces invaded, and took the Falklands from the Dutch. Before that, the Dutch colonised the Falkland islands way before Argentina, as a country, was formed. At that time, what is now known as the single country of Argentina was several different smaller countries/dominions, which did not necessarily get on with each other.

    Another interesting point regarding change, which is a hot topic elsewhere at present. The Falkland islanders need to ensure that they don't fall prey to an invasion of illegal immigrants who eventually outnumber them and then vote to change the culture from English to Argentinian. One needs to learn from the mistakes of others before they hit oneself.

  • @Theoobovril

    The day we get back working together with Argentina will be so advantageous to both countries. Too many years have been wasted over this Falkland Isles issue. And as the Argentinian President rightly stated, the UK does legitimately own these Islands. Do these Island have any real value where Argentina's economy is concerned?, not really. But militarily then yes, and to the UK too where each could share the cost of maintaining joint Naval basses there. Now the latter would really miff the Chinese off, for China has eyes on having their own Naval base there had Argentina taken over the Falkland Isles. hence why Chins supported Argentina's claims to these Isles. For has Argentina taken over the Isles so China would have rented them off Argentina and built their own South Atlantic Naval base there, something America needs to seriously think about. And yes, when Obama was USA president, HIllary Clinton supported Argentina's claims to the Falklands simply because she lacked two brain cells, and she still does. By the way, Hillary, your husband Bill looks quite at home wearing that blue dress as featured in a painting that Jeffery Epstein had hanging up on his wall.
