I travelled from Lurgan, in Northern Ireland to see this. The best concert i've ever been to. Got soaked, I mean REALLY soaked, but it did not distract from the concert one bit. To see the WWII spotlights competing with the lazers as they shone into the clouds above was just amazing!! Thank you JMJ!
I went to this, I was 8 and all this years on it still sticks in my head it was that good. And I was fascinated as I’d never seen so many people. I had to sit on my dad shoulders most the time as it was crowded. What an amazing night! (Good ole days)
I was there, unforgetable - we were told the stage, on a barge, was due to float down the dock ( if this had happenned I would have been info of the stage) but, due to very heavy rain and wind it didn't due to health and safety reasons. Light show and music were mind-blowing. The whole effect, the darkness, the wind, the rain, the fireworks, the lights and music very apocalyptic.
My father was the head engineer of laserpoint, the company who set up his light shows. That cone at the beginning was a mistake on one of his colleagues parts, but it worked so they didn't edit out XD
Martyn Butler wasn't it? My uncle was on the searchlights, I managed to get a play on the laser harp. .....and was determined to get one ever since. 40 now and finally got one and it's better than Jarres hehe as it's full colour
Then your father did a great job. It was amazing. I was there at the age of 23. I still can feel the rain, the freezing wind and the cold. But it was worth it. Greetings from Belgium. Dirk.
@@KarlSheen It was a David Simpson I'm told. I'm pretty sure he still works in the field. It's an amusing anecdote none the less. Massive system being operated over simple midi signals back when midi was advanced
I was there on the Saturday night. It's still probably the most amazing thing I've ever been to. I remember it so clearly. An incredible experience. I laughed, I cried, I was jumping around then perfectly still. Amazing night
I was there....best concert of my life......it's was just breath taking.....I climbed up a speaker pylon just to see the size of the crowd...... speakers were as big as vans!...the music made the whole ground vibrate...m.. it was beyond epic....awesome.
First time I heard oxygene I was hooked, and fell in love with sythns....first gig n best gig of my life! Never been to Glastonbury.....no point, I'll just walk about saying yeah it's ok, exactly what I imagined....but it's not a Jean Michel Jarre concert is it! Hahaha.
I was there too. Still remember queuing for miles to get in. In the pooring rain. They sold umbrellas to the people in the row. And got rich I think. Greetings from Belgium. Dirk.
I loved the shadows as a kid & seeing hank there live was a bonus. Fantastic atmosphere, I even got myself on the video. ( not good quality those days). Oh by the way Gavin his name was Hank Marvin from the shadows.
All I remember was the 3 hour coach trip, it was wet and I was cold. People at the back were smoking cannibis but through all that the music was over the moon stuff and so memorable too. Thats why I come back to youtube so often. Cheers everyone
From where I was, JMJ looked about 2 inches on stage.....it didn't matter, it's all about the music......and he went right past in a good coloured mercedes on way to stage.....I saw that blue coat and white gloves as he waved to the crowd......the crowd noise as his car rolled past was epic......like a wave....... incredible, and that before the concert even started!
I was there too on that bloody Sunday. It was amazing good, but I still remember the rain, the cold and the wind. At the end I was frozen and wet to the bone. Greetings from Belgium. Dirk.
Brilliant I was there too, I remember the constant rain but boy it was memorable. My favourite was seeing Hank Marvin with Jean doing London Kid, I was a shadows fan years ago. We need him to do another in London or at least the UK.
High as a kit, soaked to the skin and colder that a polar bears **** hole, this is and always will be the single greatest musical highlight of my life!
I was totally there :-) Even under my armpits were wet by the end of it, but loved every second. Continual fireworks, incredible projections on the Docklands buildings, WWII searchlights reaching the clouds, and of course the music and experiencing it all with the crowd. Son et Lumiere to the max! My only worry, now listening back - was any of it played live??? Maybe Hank's bit. The rest sounds too much like the recordings imho!!! Happy to be corrected, Jean-Michel, if you're there?
I remember, the TV station, trying to get negativity from people in High Rise flats, about the Volume of Music & the images. They got short shift, in repy! Love Jarres comments, Frogs like Rain! Amazing show. Got it on VDS still.
Epic.. can't even imagine what it must have been like on a technical level to keep it all together.. a show of this scale in torrential rain.. full marks...
I was there, it was unforgettable. Even the trip back to the Netherlands by boot was unforgettable, so many people sick due to the high winds (wind force 10).
I was at this incredible concert in 1988 (in the serious rain!) Does anyone know exactly where the floating stage and the audience seating area was (in relation to what is there now). I would love to revisit it. Many thanks.
I do.. if you go dockside along the side of the Excel exhibition centre you will still see the large warehouses on the opposite side of the dock that were lit inside and were used for the projections..
I still don't understand how the keyboards didn't just trip out owing to the bloody weather especially on the Sunday night where it drizzled almost the entire concert!
I was watching it live on BBC in a childrens home in Hemel Hempstead while a friend I later met paid £10 getting soaked in the rain struggling to get to the front when other people invaded the concert climbing over the security fences.
Went here again in Oct '20. The Millenium Mills building used for projections along with some of the cranes still stand. Check out my RUclips channel to see what the area looks like 32 years later :) Thanks for the memories JMJ
Francis Rimbert is miming playing two of the three sequenced lines at the beginning of 'Industrial Revolution part 3' - absolutely 100%. That part is sequenced, without question. The fact that the miming on this concert is so carefully choreographed eg the use of hammers to mimic the live performance of preset bells from a Roland D50 patch, the aforementioned extremely convincing mimicking of sequenced parts by a top, top session player, and the fact that the music is, in most cases, absolutely indistinguishable from the studio recordings lends credence to what the original poster stated. The same is true of Houston and Lyon which are also almost certainly largely mimed. I think the 1989 concert in Paris is more live but Jarre is miming there, without question. He isn't even miming playing in the right key half of the time.

It was like hé said, Raining like frogs. So cold, wet. But it was amazing. Never will forget this. Greetings Dirk Belgium

I had this on VHS cassette. Listened to this probably more than 100 times. I loved till today.

Bloody fantastic listening again in 2022
I was 17. This was my first big gig. It was fucking awesome. (Onk Mervin was the best bit.)
He is a great musician of electro funk music

Some keyboards were turned off and playback was used, that’s how!!😁😉
i was there, it was cold and wet, but i was stoned and it was magical, it evens beats child birth!
Was a 'drastic' concert despite the weather! :-)
Shame they didn't release all 17 of the songs on the video and album.
Great night, went on the sunday, soaked and mezmorised
I'd love to go to one of his concerts. I was very young when all this was happening.
Este concierto ya debería estar en 4k. Para mi es el mejor de todos los shows de jarre, la Defense y Moscú también.
I was watching it live on BBC in a childrens home in Hemel Hempstead while a friend I later met paid £10 getting soaked in the rain struggling to get to the front when other people invaded the concert climbing over the security fences.
Was wet and what an amazing experience
Ended up with a cold but woooooow it was amazing I was working on Plumstead prison at that time it is now known as belmarse now
What's the name of the guy in the turban. He mesmerised me at this concert. I went to the first one. Nothing has come close since.
Dominique Perrier
If Dyson made instruments it would be the things they’re playing!
I was there ....................
I think JMJ has done better concerts, actually but I was lucky enough to be at this one with my school friends.
Rain and a lot of electric stuff.
Just adds to the buzz man :)
No rain on the Saturday night :)
That are some wet synthesizers! o_O
I wonder how the keyboards stood the rain pouring down... it is rather strange the synths survived if they were uncovered.
I live here and it is 2020
