- Build and Paint the Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale model kit with me, The Inner Nerd. If you're new to modelling or have a few kits under your belt, this video is for YOU! I'll be working this simple kit, adding resin aftermarket details, painting using an airbrush as well as polishing the model to a super shine with Tamiya's polishing compounds. Showing you not only what, but how it's done. I hope you enjoy, Matt.

This video explains my techniques in the building, painting and weathering of Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale scale model kit by The Inner Nerd. I start the video by building the scale model kit using Tamiya, AK Interactive glues and Mr Hobby tools. The key to building the Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale scale model kit is to carefully read the instructions and assemble, using the tutorial as a guide. Take care in assembling the scale model kit so the the parts fit accurately and align as intended, this is the easiest way of speeding up the build.
To paint the Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale model kit it is best to use an airbrush. This video is designed to cover the airbrush technique so that you can see the thinning of paint and application onto the scale model kit. Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Silverline is used in this video along with AK Interactive Real Colors, Tamiya Acrylics, Mr Hobby and Alclad II Metal Lacquers. Thinning paint is a very important technique so I will explain how to do that using the correct thinners for each paint type, suitable for beginners.
Decals are applied with the aid of Tamiya Mark Fit which helps conform even the thickest decals onto the Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale.
The final part is the weathering using more AK Interactive weathering products as well as artists oil paints, weathering washes from AMMO and finally Pigments. I start the weathering techniques using an enamel wash to bring out the panel lines on the scale model kit. Here I use oil washes. To seal decals in I use a clear acrylic coat from Matte varnish. Further and more detailed weathering techniques follow using artist oil paints which enable me to add streaks, grime and bleaching onto the model. The matte clearcoat varnish is airbrushed onto the Meng Rolls Royce Armoured Car. This matte varnish will help the weathering process as the matte finish allows more oil paint to stain the model surface. Dust weathering effects are created using pigments to imitate the weathering on tyres and undercarriage/landing gear.
Final assembly of the Airfix RAF Red Arrows Hawk in 1/72 scale model kit is completed using super glue. All of the final small parts and lights are added onto the model kit to complete the model build.
I remember building a whole squadron of these when I lived in England in the 70's. my favorite plane design ever, thanks for this review.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Can you do the academy B-29 “enola gay” please
Stronger and faster - that's what she said. Outstanding job with this old kit
All the time 😬🫣 Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Awesome build, Matt. The shiny surface looks just perfect! Can't wait to see the Red Arrows again at RIAT25. Cheers and happy modelling!
Mate, glad to see you back! Your content has been sorely missed.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
6:26 💀💀
Glad to see you back. Looking forward to your next video!
Am I the only one that's completely BUMMED OUT that AK decided to redo their entire Real Color range? I bought the AFV box set and was excited to get the AIR box set as well! But now that hope is gone forever....
I've seen that they've gone down the MRP style lines and gone for then new pre thinned bottles instead. I was building quite the collection but have recently gotten into MRP. I'll have to try the new AKRC sometime and see how they compare. Paint never stays the same for long and they're always changing the bottles or chemistry just as you get a collection started! Thanks for watching :)
Absolutely beautiful work!👌🏻
What a wonderful build, one’s just gotta luv the Red Arrows!
Now then:
Is it a bit much to do all the extra work on a cheap kit?
Or is it because it’s cheap that allows you to do it?
Do you choose your paints because;
They are exactly what you want?
You have got used to them?
Or you buy the cheapest/ best value paint you can?
Great video, lovely style
Bob
England
PS I had another set of questions but forgotten them so an edit may pop up?!
Hey Bob and thanks for watching.
I do this amount of work on all my models, but if you want this to be a cheap and simple kit then that totally makes sense. You can make it how you want.
I like to choose paints that I know I work well with. MRP and AKRC have always worked well for me and I like the accuracy of the MRP paints for colour. AKRC can be airbrushed or hand painted so that's thier advantage over the MRP. Hence both types of paint.
Thanks again and if you've got more questions add another comment, I dooms get notified with edits, so I won't see it :)
Matt, a brit abroad.
Excellent. Good to have you back IN.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
I really need to get some polishing compound because gosh you got such a nice finish! 👌👌
It's really good. You can use car polish too if you're finding it hard to get hold of. Thanks for watching:)
Good to see you back! Sometimes you need a simple mojo build like this just for a bit of fun. Great build!
Thank you and yes its what I needed! Thanks for watching :)
Good to see different RUclips channels not having a subscriber battle but just being nice to each other❤
You're right. Somehow there's a secret war going to be the best between some channels. People talk so much about growing a community, then fight it if they get threatened 🙄😴
Thank you for watching us both :)
Great edit on the inverted front landing gear
Realised as soon as I made the clip and changed it off camera. Nice easter egg for the viewers;) thank for watching:)
Looks cool.
Hey mate, could you make a video about Airfix swift kit ?
Hello. It's not a kit that's been on my radar, but I like the box art for sure now I've taken a look! Thanks for watching:)
Great build buddy any chance of being a little bit more prolific 👍
Thank you. Im trying but also setting up my workshop on betwen builds a little at a time. I'll get there one day and I'll be back to posting every other month or close enough. Thanks for watching :)
Matt, at last a YTer who uses a rotary tool! The first I've seen.
You've taught me quite a lot here and given me a few ideas, such as your brass tube oleos which might solve one of my problems in a Westland Lynx doing deck landing trials diorama I'm getting info together for.
Has your jet just been pushed back? Is the nose leg the right way round? (Sorry, my inner nerd showing).
Thank you. Glad the brass tube has helped you out also, best if luck with the Lynx. And no, it's on the right way around, look again ;)
@@TheInnerNerd Now that's sneaky. You turned it round? It certainly looks wrong time stamp 15:31 to 15:58 but alls well that ends well.
Just checking you watch the video closely 👀😄 I have to make one stupid mistake per video and in the one, I chose this 😇
Wow super shiny 😮
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Just a comment for the algorithm
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Very nice! I always enjoy seeing the Red Arrows.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great job. Remiss of Airfix to not have tailpipe and the under side smoke pod. It looks like they forgot all about the underside arrow decal
I'll let them off since it's a starter kit and will never be the centerpiece amongst other models, but it's good fun. About 20 pieces in the box makes for a quick build. Thanks for watching:)
Perfect work 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Nice build. 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
There's a fun little model. Thanks, nice to have a video from you to watch tonight. :)
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great paint job, i made this one a few years back with my then 9 yr old granddaughter, it's a good one to start 'em on.
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Great model, it's been a while and it's great to see you back. Best wishes to you from NZ
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
I used the same kit in the airfix starter kit speed build last year with Little history, nice kit
It's pretty basic but good for a qpeed build and mojo kit in-between more serious models. Thanks for watching:)
Looking forward to seeing more of your great work. I would love to see a pro like yourself build the 1/32 scale i have a couple well maybe 3 in the stash 😂
Thank you. I've got a 1/32 Bf109 on the channel which I enjoyed greatly. Have a HKM 1/32 Mosquito in the stash as well, thinking of making that in a series of videos focusing on more advanced techniques. Does that sound like content that you'd like? Thanks for watching :)
@TheInnerNerd yeah i watched your BF109 build. To be honest all your builds are great watches so most definitely Interested. I would be more than willing to donate a kit if interested just to see what you can do with it.
Super glue will eventually make the clear plastic go opaque
I’ve never had it do that.
Oh, I've never experienced this and have been using my superglue for about 6 years now. Does it depend on the type maybe?. Thanks for watching :)
👍👍👍
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
GOOD modeling d( ̄ ̄)
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Beautiful Build!!!!!!!!!
Thank you and thanks for watching :)
Bra gjort!
Tack så jättemycket!
The nose wheel was in the wrong position
No it's not :) Thanks for watching
@@TheInnerNerd yes it was then you arranged it in the end. Watch the video
That's correct. But in the end the model is finished, that's how time works :) You can see at the first presentation that the gear is rotated in the correct position. I've watched the video, I made it.
@@TheInnerNerd Ignore 'em Rivet Counters mate. Splendid job given it is a starter kit. You built it ❤❤
