  • This is the first episode of many... I get alot of questions about what meal I eat at camp and how I make them. So what better idea than to share some recipes and how I cook them on my Trangia stove. Maybe I can motivate one of you to get out there and do some proper cooking as well, not just eat boil in bags and soup. If you have any good meals you would like to share, please live a comment down below. Cheers

This is the first episode where I will focus on what meals I use to make when I'm out camping, and how I make them on my Trangia Stove. I hope this can motivate and inspire one of you to get out and make a propper meal instead of those freeze dried food, boil in bags or other crap food. If you have any good tips for future meals, or have any favourites, please share them below. Have a nice easter 🔥

Man...look... belive me.. That's not a carbonara. A cuple of advices.. Don't use parmigiano chees, instead use pecorino chees, don't use bacon, instead use pig cheeck, don't use garlic. You need more eggs and some pepper, and of course put the spaghetti in the pot only after the water is boiling!
Keep it up with your videos # they are really well made !

Hahaha, well... can we agree that is is a much closer and better alternative to the bag or jar sauce you add water and mix into the pasta? The cheese you are referring to, I know about it, but it can be hard to come by here in Norway. Should I not use garlic? whoot? I have always been told this is the secret ingredient? are you sure? @@tshansen It's true about the garlic. No garlic in italian carbonara. But yes peccorino is hard to come by in scandinavia outside the bigger cities. Guanciale (pork cheek) is close to impossible to get here as well. Bacon is our poor mans substitue :-) And it's true - when adventure motorcycling this would be an amazing meal.

Oh, nice. This is video series I definitely need! 😂 It's also nice that you show in which order you do stuff and why, because with only one flame that can often be a challenge. I lived aboard a sailboat for two years with only one burner, and you have to get a bit creative to make it work, which it seems like you've figured out as well. Well done, and I can't wait to see more of this series. 🙌🏻

Hope this is something more people will enjoy because I see alot of people boiling Real Turmat and that's it. • @Vlerkies
    @Vlerkies 3 года назад +3

Nice. Italians may cry everywhere but a 'bush carbonara', although not by strict traditional methods, is better than 2 minute noodles or a can of baked beans hehe.
The cheese type is important, brings the flavor. Also before throwing the pasta water away due to pan space restrictions which is understandable considering the camping stove kit, save some in a cup or something. Always useful to have some extra starchy water to reduce, if its to thick and get the pork fat and starchy water emulsion to the right consistency that you enjoy.
Never tried a carbonara in the wild, but know I will. One of my favorite dishes at home though.

    • @tshansen

Yeah, when you are out and about, this is a really easy and almost like the real thing. Why on earth would you buy dry freezed food when you can mix up something like this. I hope it will show more people how easy it is to make good meals when you are out camping. Thank you for that tip... will keep in mind next time I'm out cooking.

@@tshansen Absolutely, one may not always be able to get guanciale instead of bacon on the road, or the right cheese etc, but its still a hearty wholesome meal for sure that beats the freeze dried or canned rubbish.I Ride with you any day, I'll pour the whisky, you can cook :)
I did a search on the vids, what is your current preferred cooking kit, you mentioned the Tangia 27 or 25 in 2019 in a much older vid, seen it mentioned on Matthias channel as well. Can do a lot with a single gas bottle and pot, but that kit looks really nice, interested in how well it packs/size

Another rider recipe i used in my trip in Norway: "Mushroom Risotto": shops have ranks full of ready-rice-bag, butmi don't like them 'cause they are salty and for two people and full of "strange powder". I use to put in a "sous vide machine" bag 125 gr of rice (parboiled is the best), 2 pinches of salt, curry (as you like), some dry mushrooms (porcini are very tasty) , a bit pepper. Make a light sous vide and seal. Now you have a little bag you can store for months. To cook: Put all togheter in a pot with 400 ml of water, add 1 spoon of olive oil (or butter), stir it, cover and put on Trangia. When start to boil, remove lid and continue cooking for 15 min (don't forget to stir) . If it became too sticky, turn off fire, cover and wait the time. Before to eat you can add some raped Parmigiano. Buon Appetito.

Haha, hello Restless 👏🏻 I get so many question about this in on instagram and other social media. I really love to cook myself a good meal before I go to bed each night when I'm out camping. And I think making food when your out camping is a great way to pass some time and have a great time. So I figured, what the hell... let's make a series about it, let us show how easy it is to cook on the trips and maybe motivate other to do the same. And if I'm lucky, I get some really good tips from you guys on new meals I could try. Some countrys down Europe are cheap and you are probably better of going to a restaurant, but there is something about visiting local stores, buy some fresh ingredients and cook yourself. And what a great icebreaker it is with other people on camp sites. What do you think, was it ok, should I do more of it (outside off course) Thank you for the tip with cream and onions 👏🏻🔥

"Passive cooking pasta" trick: if you wanna cook a "pasta bolognese" ( in Italy we call it "Pasta al ragù") you need short pasta and a can of ready ragù sauce. But how to cook pasta and sauce with a single Trangia? Passive cooking is the solution: put 500 ml of water in a pot and make it boil, then add some salt and put 100 gr of short pasta in, cover and wait 3 min, then pull out the pot from the Trangia, cover it with a towel till the cooking time is reached (don't forget to stir it ). Ingredients: 100 g short pasta ( tubetti or whatever you can eat with a spoon), 200 ml water, 1 spoon olive oil (for non italian butter is good too) , 3 pinches of salt, pepper (if you like it), 1 full spoon of tomato paste, 1 little vapour canned beans (normally is 125 gr of beans). Put all togheter, except beans, stir well and put on Trangia. Take cover (stir frequently) till 15 min, then put in the beans, cover and stir. When you reached the density you like, turn off flame and cover till you reached 25 min total (pasta continues cooking if covered). Cooking time depends on wind, temperature etc, so be ready to adapt. Buon Appetito.

I really think you know this is not a genuine recipe of carbonara, whatever there are 2 bigger mistakes,: pasta should be cooked in boiling water, and you can use a short pasta instead spaghetti (every time you broke spaghetti you make an italian heart bleeding). Cooking pasta with cold water is possible when you are riding ( i use Trangia too), but only in one-pot reecipe, and should be short format anyway.

I never thought this would spin of so many feelings 🤣 Yes, I know this is not the "real" thing, but it is the closest thing we got to it, when out riding. Some of the ingredients are impossible to buy in most stores here. So you do the best of what you got. And this is the better option, there are alot of variations in just a pag you add water to that taste like crap 😇

    Hello
Pasta Carbonara comes from 2 WW when the American soldiers came to Rome and brought lots of egg powder. A real Carbonara is easier than your recipe and should not have egg whites and garlic! 1. Fry the bacon cubes and place them on the side. 2. Separate egg whites from egg yolks and save the yolks. 3.boil the pasta, 4.when the pasta is ready pour over some of the pasta water in the frying pan with the bacon cubes and mix the pasta with the bacon until the water has boiled into the pasta again with the bacon cubes. 5 just before the water has boiled off completely, pour over the egg yolk and mix everything quickly so the egg yolk does not coagulate completely season with black pepper and a little grated cheese. So neither whole eggs and garlic for a real Carbonara Mama mia ..

Hahaha, I do understand this is a touchy subject for alot of people. And I know it is not a true real Carbonara, but close enough on a trip with your bike and only cooking on a Trangia stove? Thank you for this insight. I will try to do it this way the next time I make it. Cheers 😁
