  • In the four decades since the first reported cases of HIV, advances in treatment of the disease have improved the health and quality of life for countless individuals.
    Among the medical advances offering the most hope are PrEP medications--pills and injections which prevent people from contracting HIV through sexual contact or IV drug use.
    While PrEP medications have been available since 2013, stigma continues to be a barrier to their wider use. In this digital story, meet Pittsburgh-area people and organizations at the frontlines of efforts to educate both patients and doctors about the life-saving benefits of these medications.
