    This video is so helpful!
    I'm doing this job today for the 1st time on my 97 SL.
    Just be careful when you use the hammer to open the plastic housing... I must have hit it too hard because I kind of broke the base plate. Nothing a little glue and aluminum tape couldn't fix.
    Thanks so much for this reference it's invaluable to our 3000GT community.

    I have a "98" that I have personally kept It almost like new and I am starting to have the door lock issue except that when I unlock it it locks back almost immediately most of the time now and I have removed the door panels and looked to see what is involved in taking out the door locks even removing the control switch and the long arms back to the lock, But I was not brave enough to remove the lock like you have shown because of it's complexity. Thank you soooo very much for your expert knowledge and teaching ability. You are my Hero! I now have no issues in finishing my attempt in removing and repairing my door lock issue. Please keep the video's coming. The wiper videos were also helpful and much appreciated.

    I just assembled mine earlier today and came out great. The only challenge I was having was hammering the unit. I have a 95 vr4 and it took a long time to open. I ended up hammering a metal sharp thin putty knife and that did the job...but overall all the steps worked great!

  • @eagle4x638
    @eagle4x638 5 месяцев назад

    Just did this on my passenger door...great video but some tips: 1) easier to remove the clip off the top rod with the window down and using the hook tool at the top of the window cavity. 2) After removing all the plastic clips from the rods and all the bolts, I pulled the assembly to the large cavity then I removed the harness using slip joint pliers to push the tab, then I used a ratchet with a phillips head bit inside a 1/4" socket and removed the 2 screws holding the actuator to the door latch...therefore didn't have to remove the entire actuator/latch from the door. 3) I used a chisel and hit the actuator on the seams of the actuator to break it loose. 4) I installed felt pads used for furniture instead of rubber. 5) I used rubbing alcohol to clean the rubber residue since I didn't have any acetone. 6) Installing the rod inside the top clip is more difficut than removing it...if not able to do it from the top window cavity with the window down, roll the window up and remove the 2 nuts at the top holding the bar in front of the window and slide it to the right a few inches, then you should be able to reach your and up to put the rod inside the clip. Next, I'm going to repair the actuator on the driver's door even though it's working because eventually will fail.

    Great fix again. I fixed mine a while back by drilling a small hole through the end,inserted a screw and used the end of that screw as a stopper for the switch. Should last longer than the rubber and is also adjustable without taking the locks out again. This video is still the proper way to repair the lock though. (note I still had to take it apart to see how it worked and align the screw though)

    I’ve been finding your videos very helpful for my 92 GTO and have some questions, some even related to this video:
    1. My passenger side locks remotely but the driver side only locks with the key. Locking the driver’s side door does lock the passenger door. Is that normal or can I get my driver’s side door to lock remotely?
    Big reason I ask is because my security system can lock automatically when I turn my car off… well, the passenger side at least.
    2. Power mirrors work but will no longer fold/unfold. Is there a fuse or relay to check or replace ? Mirror adjustment works fine.
    3. Possibly wishful thinking, adding a remote actuator to the rear hatch.

    This was a wonderful educational video for door locks. Thank you very much!
    I have another request, (Gold wolf USA) could you show us how to remove and replace all the weather strips? From the windows to the doors to the trunks to the windshield? I went to look at a beater GTO and was deterred from buying it because the previous owners did not take care of many things, weather stripping being a very noticeable thing. All the internal door components obviously rusted and needed work because of that. When I eventually buy one, I’d like to know how to replace those parts.
    Cheerio!

    Hello my friend, I have a question for you. Seeing that you own so many GTO’s, can you tell me your experience on how long on average the engines and transmissions last on those GTO’s? At what average mileage does each of those components tend to require a rebuild or replacement?
    The cars on sale here in the USA for low prices all have tons and tons of mileage. I’m afraid if I buy one, it will die very soon afterwards. I don’t mind working on the non essential parts like the body and interior, or even the accessory’s like the brakes, alternator and serpentine belts, but my mechanic skills are not at a master level yet and I don’t have the crane and other big tools needed for engine and transmission work. If you could do a short video on your experience with these two components answering my question that would be greatly appreciated!
    I love your channel! You do such a great job explaining and video capturing the fixes! You make me want to buy a 3000GT and restore it to its former glory!

    • @3000GTGTORestoration
      @3000GTGTORestoration  4 года назад +1

      Hello Gold wolf
      In my experience, the engine will go on forever if properly maintained, driven and unmodified. I know a couple of people with 500,000 miles and no problems but I know others that are constantly modifying the engines and blow them up with 70,000 miles. Look for a car that has not been tampered with in any way. Look inside the cam cover to make sure it is clean and without any black deposits. Check the owner is not the sort to race away from every stop light. This will put a heavy load on the big end shells and gearbox. I think the video idea is a good one and I will put one together soon. Regards. Joe

    Could this be related to a similar issue when trying to unlock a door with a key it re-locks all doors but does it once (not like: unlock - lock - unlock and etc how you have it in the video). Mine just locks it once, and it stays locked untill I again try to unlock it with a key and than it locks again.
