- GREAT END VIA THE BAND (ish) but first Seathwaite Fell and afterwards we bag Allen Crags and Glaramara before we drop down a path of doom called HIND GILL Path. Awful and dangerous after the day befores gales. Come with us on this last walk of 2022 for the team. We will be back in April of 2023 with more adventures.
NOTED SPELLING ERRORS to apologise for:
Wifes (Instead of Wives)
Every (instead of Ever)
Decend (Instead of Descend)
Seperate (Instead of Separate )
I got '4 out of 10 see me' from my School Mistress Mary Ashbridge and that costs me a bottle of TANQUERAY GIN. 🤣
Sorry about the various spelling errors, I was keen to get it published. Time restraints yet again.
Re-watch of this chief and a very enjoyable one too. Still not done any of these but will be doing them this year and looking forward to them all excerpt 'Bessyboot and Glaramara', which to be honest, I have been putting off for years due to the awful descent down. I think (on a dry day) I will go up the steep stone steps from the camping site at Stonethwaite to Bessyboot, over to Glaramara and then on the Allen Crags and down via the tarns, may well be a heck of a lot longer but is sure looks a lot safer! Happy New Year to you, cheers Alan
Totally agree Alan old mate.
Great video Graham, great day in the lakes with good company.
Great company indeed, lets do it again soon mate 👍
Myself and Mark and Marra's did this descent in 2010 when it was ice and snow and daylight running out pretty fast. One of the sketchiest descents we've done. We had three Jack Russels with us at the time and we had to lift them down whilst balancing ourselves at the same time. It wasn't much fun!
Wow Wukkie, that does not sound like fun, it was bad enough just getting myself down unharmed. That must have been very scary for you, I thought it was bad after a dourpour but in Ice and snow carrying a dog, it just sends shivers down my spine. Glad you made it down without injury. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your experience. I think it is fair to say neither of us will use that route down in future.
Great expansive scenery on the walk ,you certainly earn your pints in the pub
Brilliant Graham and team, one of your best, thanks for sharing 👏👏👏
Lovely 07.50 start but trying to work out what was worse going up The Band or coming down Hind Gill🤔, either way, as I have done none of the Fells you did on this day I must remember to do neither. On a positive note the weather was great, you all got down safely and you had a good night to look forward too. I hope the weather is going to be good for you in April, apart for a few canny days, the whole of 2023 has been pants weather-wise, cheers Alan
Going up the band was great fun Alan but could have done with more time to enjoy it. I would not wish that descent on anyone. Thanks mate. BTW I have not commented but I enjoyed your honest review of the Keswick Premier Inn. Not my cup of tea either. Can't believe they expect residents to pay a tenner to park in the spaces underneath, if you can get a space.
Nice video Graham. Taysia and I used the Hind Gill route down from Glaramara last year also. Had to keep our wits all the way down to avoid getting hurt.
Hi Graham, we watched this last night. A superb video and a brilliant walk. Great End is one of my favourites, the views are superb. The route down Hind Gill looked a bit tough! Really enjoyed all the videos from your last trip. Good to see Mary, Derek & Bert out with you on your adventures. Looking forward to more videos this year. Take care & Best Wishes. Eddie & Carol.
Hope it had the desired effect 😉
@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos It certanily did, ha!
Brilliant Graham - has been a really nice series. I remember how knackered Dave was doing that route (including Bessyboot) … me too!! … so in total awe you all set out to include Great End too 😊. Great mention of that moment again on Fleetwith Pike, ‘glad it was special for you 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers Stuart
Thanks Stuart, we have really appreciated you being a faithful fan of our efforts. I do get a bit emotional out there sometimes, end of an era stuff is never easy to take. Thanks again. Graham
Really enjoyed the video Graham, thank you. I came down Hind Gill once, already pretty knackered, and obviously lived to tell the tale, but only just! Never again! Looking forward to your 2023 season.
Nightmare isn't it Dave, it had been raining heavily the day before which didn't help. We will never use it again to drop down.
Well just reached the summit, and caught up with all the videos, big thanks to Graham and the team, ready and looking forward to more video’s.
What a fan John 👏 Thanks for being a good friend of The Fat Boys on Tour group
The dreaded Hind Gill such an innocent short green line on the map. A half hour decent to Seathwaite perhaps 😅 not a cat in hells chance.
I decended this 4 times now all equally a tough as the last a pig of a path.
Great series of videos btw each one a gem on its own.
Well done everyone look forward to your next visit to the Lake District 👍
That's very kind of you, thanks for watching
Thank you for bringing back so many happy memories. Happy Easter to you all. Hope you get some perfect weather for your next adventures.
Thank you Trevor, your comments mean a lot to us, we really appreciate them. As always thanks for watching our adventures. 👍🍻
Great way to wrap up the year! I did this route in 2021 in considerable wind and rain.. Coming down that way from Glaramara is dangerous, MIGHT be ok ascending but I feel there needs to be a warning for descending I learned a lesson that day!
I could not agree more. Difficult but a fence and gate at the top detailing it's bad erosion would do it. Thanks for watching
I've only just learned this (I just read a book about navigation!) - a green dashed line indicates a right of way, but one that is not visible on the ground. A black dashed line indicates a visible path. If the path is both visible on the ground and a right of way, the map will show both black and green dashed lines.
So that path is actually shown on the map as not visible, and with those contours so close together, it looks like a nightmare!
Not much use to you now of course, and I guess you'd have tried it anyway under the circumstances, but hey, every day is a school day, and that might be useful info in the future!
Hey thanks for that information however I was aware of that. On maps you often see rights of ways perfectly straight but actual paths that follow it in black broken lines weaving all around it. You are right that the map is showing just a right of way in this case. I had looked up the path prior to the walk due to the possible need of a drop from Glaramara as I always check out escape routes just in case. I ran it by some fellow Wainwright society friends and was reliably informed it was visible and a public right of way that gets used often. It was visible from the top alright and at the bottom. What these so-called friends failed to mention that it was badly eroded away in the middle of it. You will note I marked it in on the route description with red arrows where it was bad. It was made even worse by the heavy rain fall the day before. Since walking it I have contacted O.S via memory map contacts and they inform me that though it is a right of way it will never be marked as a path due to its eroded nature unless that erosion is dealt with by the LAKE DISTRICT national park guys. I appreciate your comment my friend and your very sensible reading up on maps and navigation, it will stop you being stupid like me and leading a bunch of old farts down a dangerous right of way path. Thanks for watching and posting an interesting and informative post. Cheers Graham
Another good one Graham. I like the look of The Band, not sure Louise would fancy it mind 😀
By the way - I laughed out loud at your caption on Bert’s pose - Gay! 😂
Bit late to this one but was worth the wait. Cracking video as always and that's some achievement in a week for Bert. He'll have them completed in no time.
Thanks as always that man
Was the hind gill path worse than the lord's rake? Always love your vids
Lords Rake is a doddle compared to the drop down Hind Gill. Going up might be better but I doubt it. Thanks for the kind comment and watching our vids
@@FatBoysonTourHikingVideos love the humor, and just you guys getting out and enjoying it. Should be an inspiration to everyone watching
Great video - yes I discovered that wasn't a path too
Yea I'm noticing a trend 🤣
Very nice
Thank You Kalam
Fantastic video as always Graham. I did this route last year but in reverse so I went UP Hind Gill.
Probably easier going up than down but I distinctly remember it as being steep and the “path” being non-existant in many places.
I met a fellow walker coming down and he had a few choice words for it too 😂!!
Look forward to the 2023 vids.
Yeah tolerable going up in good weather probably but for us old farts coming down was very scary I can tell you. Cheers Alan
Cracking walk, well done folks
Glad you enjoyed it John, we loved every second of the walk, thanks for watching
