but now they try. But the new ideas are free to play with full microtransaction or in a near future (i hope not) political bias/political correctness in games.
@@evilzinabyssranger5695 yeah I hate the political bias in call of duty, which blames real life US war crimes on other countries for no other reason than to make America look good (Activision has major ties to the Republican party and the CIA) or how games like Far Cry 5 will have a militia/cult with tons of guns, but never ask about how/why it was so easy for this cult to obtain so many weapons, or address that if that cult existed in real life they most likely would be white supremacists. Much better and more meaningful stories could be told if they weren't afraid to offend people.

way of the samurai is one of my all time favorite game series. The design of those games is so unique and there's pretty much nothing else like them. They let you RP as a samurai however you want and have SO MUCH REPLAY VALUE. I want the series to return so badly

@@dannooooooo yeah I've been playing 1 and 2. Got a bit frustrated with having to restart every time I died.
I understand it's a short game but I must admit, it is dated in that way. Having to rewatch and redo certain things to get an ending can be annoying.
Even tho there is a choice in difficulty.
That being said, I really enjoy the gameplay of both games, despite those issues. I'd gladly play games with a similar progression and combat.
Yeah looking at 3 and 4, those would've been a better starting point for sure. I'll definitely try them out when I can. Tho that won't be for a while lol
@@therandomdickhead5744 yea its been a looong time since i played 2, but I'm pretty positive in 3 and 4 you can save, so if you die you can reload a save and continue. can also reload a save and try different decisions to see what happens at a certain event. but they are all still the 'create a samurai, arrive at village, go through small story with 128 endings or something like that, repeat' but its a great style, especially for when you dont have much time, because a playthrough is finished in like 1 to 6 hours (maybe longer on some playthroughs), and then all the sword building and customizing with blades, handles, guards, fighting styles, unlocking outfits, ugh... might have to replay one soon. I know that it was 3 that finally hooked me, i played 2 as a kid and liked it but didnt get anywhere because I was a stupid kid and it was confusing. But I came back to the series years later and tried 3 and pretty much 100% it, and loved it. I got fairly deep into 4 too but i will say it does more things that irritate me so I've never done more than a few endings on it, but it has more features and endings and story then 3 so I still want to like it. wow. I'm really talking a lot about these old ass games.

Unfortunately true, collecting retro games has become so expansive and a lot of this can be contributed the popularity of videos like this one
Well on the other hand, would you have ever heard about these games and bought them at those cheap prices if it weren't for videos like this?

@@renzorro2001 Yes, actually. I've taken the shot on plenty of cheap retro titles I never heard of because they were so cheap.
They’ve always helped me jump ahead and buy some cool, retro games before the price has gone up. So I guess you could look at it both ways.
Way of the Samurai is one of my favorite games on PS2. The branching storyline based on your actions was mind blowing to me at the time, it still is pretty impressive for the time this game came out. The fact that you could attack/kill characters early on in the game and how that shifted alliances was so cool... combat was fun too once you got the hang of it.

they were like telltale games long before telltale, but in WOTS there was actually different endings you could get, and real branching narratives. We need a WOTS 5!

Maximo Vs Army of Zin is a good obscure game that i barely saw people talking about it
I'm currently playing the first one (Ghosts to Glory) and I'm really digging it, underrated as hell
Cold fear looked Excellent for a PS2 title. It was quite scary too in my opinion.

He confused Kenshiro with Kenshiro Kasumi the main character of Fist of the Blue Sky, Kenshiro's uncle and namesake.

Way of the Samurai was excellent. I played so many hours on that game.Think I've unlocked just about everything there is, got a crapton of rare swords, etc. I remember starting new runs just to farm the ronin samurai enemies (with the straw basket helmets) that would randomly show up on certain maps to get their drops. I also have WotS2 but didn't spend nearly as much time on that one.
I always hated how much people talk about PlayStation 2 is a shovel ware console cause actually a lot of the games people don’t know are underrated masterpieces genji dawn of the samurai is also really awesome

I've only heard that being said about the Wii (and I think it was true for the Wii )
I use to religiously play the game. Even beat it recently again for nostalgia, great title
@@vasopel Never have heard that from people but you can make a good assumption that it has alot of shovel wear. When you have the biggest console library of almost 3000 games, you most likely going to have alot of trash into that pile of games. Most of the games i have played on the ps2 have been great or worst case decent thankfully.
@@angrymobsters1599 all the consoles that had big libraries of games had their fair share of very bad games in there, it's just that I never heard anyone say that the PS2 "is a shovel-ware console"

I recently had a lucky find of Way of the Samurai. Sits proudly on my shelf. It really looks like a very early template of Ghost of Tsushima! Another gems I am after are: Crimson Tears, Obscure, Zombie Zone, Ar Tonelico, Nanobreaker, Echo Night Beyond and more! I realise all these are very rare and very expensive lol. But PS2 is the best

I still have Hokuto no Ken(Fist of the North Star) PS2 , it's one of the best fighting games of PS2 imo ^v^

Wow, I've never even heard of Heavenly Guardian, I really dig the high-resolution arcade/SNES game aesthetic. Definitely going to be checking that one out.

I’m interested in Heavenly Guardian since it reminds me of Twinkle Tale, a run and gun that I really love on the Genesis/Megadrive. Stella Dey’s also looks good.

Raw Danger was phenomenal, unique game. There is also a hidden gem most people never played it's called colosseum: road to freedom, its the best gladiator game ever created

Heavenly Guardian - I must have played a demo of this because I don't remember renting it, but I do remember trying it out, it felt very similar to Pocky & Rocky on the SNES.

Way of the Samurai - Awesome game. It was a rental that kept me entertained... don't know why I never got around to buying it. I know it also got sequels. A quick check on prices... well, it's less than when it was new, but still more than most games on Steam that I want to play...

Dream mix tv blew my mind when I was young seeing it in Electronic gaming monthly. Knowing Asks from Cy Girls (another ps2 hidden gem) and Licca chan can team up against Master Higgins and Snake blew my mind. The liscensing would've been unreal to bring it over. At least we got Tatsunoko vs capcom🙇♀️. I'd say Aeon Flux PS2 is a hidden gem. 👌🙆♀️

Great list! I don't know if are obscure but.. God hand / Disaster report / Gungrave / Gregory Horror Show / Legend of Kay / Mark of Kri are some other gems? Maybe the Rumble Fish or Beyond Good and Evil?

Way of the Samurai is one of my fav ps2 games. I never liked the the sequel because the us version did not have cheat codes (only the Japanese version did)

Dr Muto is a good one. Very interesting and original level design (when using the spider for exemple). Difficult, but addictive, lot of exploration... I also recommand it

my first introduction to the raw danger series was a fan translated zettai zetsumai toshi for the psp which i absolutely love
Fun fact: When Heavenly Guardian was in development, its code name was "Pocky & Rocky 3" (Pocky & Rocky is a shooter franchise from Taito), but Taito didn't authorized to use Pocky & Rocky characters, so Starfish changed characters and history.

Cold fear was awesome. Sorta comparable to re4, was nice to have when that got old.
Heavenly Guardian looks fun. I remember the name and reason I didn't pick it up; the box art. It never seemed appealing. A group of monsters in a ring, none looking like a main character, and not hinting at the type of game it was; passed it up because it seemed like a gamble.

Way of the Samurai was always a great series. It was one of the earliest sandbox story games that I can remember and I've loved every sequel. It also has a very quirky sense of humor about it.
Just don't be mistaken about the kind of game it is, it follows more of a visual novel game design. That means you can complete it in less than an hour depending on the path you take, but it's _meant_ to be played over and over if you want to see everything.
I'm always sad when I see that nobody talks about Valkyrie Profile 2 for the PS2. Probably one of the best and most original (at least gameplay-wise) RPG's I've ever played

Love the first Way of the Samurai! Sadly, I disliked all the sequels. A really obscure game I love on PS2 is Tsugunai: Atonement, published by Atlus. A very original, if a little rough, RPG with a very unique premise and amazing soundtrack by Yasunori Mitsuda.
From this list I also quite like Cold Fear and Stella Deus. I didn't like Raw Danger as much as I did Disaster Report though
@@warehousedave7937 I managed to pick up Way of the Samurai for around a tenner. I know its worth way more than that now. PS2 games in general are becoming more rare. I feel like lockdown has driven people to collect more and the market has dried up for buying

I always wanted to know what DOCTOR MOTO Ps2 was and because of the over abundance of copy’s and really cheap price tag I always passed it up! I saw your clip on it and was immediately interested and will get me a copy ( C.I.B.) of course I made a promise to myself never to buy loose disks ever again!!

To be honest I don't recall which one he review it. The one I own is a Wii2hdmi from the same brand, and it works perfect for me, in this case to record videos via a hdmi/usb card (will get the ps22hdmi for the same reason). The good thing about these adaptors whatever2hdmi is that they are cheap, I paid less tan 10 bucks. I've seen some cables and devices on Metal Jesus videos, but they are expensive, and from my point of view they just improve the quality of the image very little (not worth it).
I’ll second that, I use wii2hdmi as well and the overall quality is great. No experience with the PS2 version though.

Raw Danger, Way of Samurai Really my childhood friend,,, who make me love game until now, ive been playing raw danger on 2020 and still very admire the game a lot, i play it on 2 version, first time i was playing is a us version, where main character have a blond hair, but i suprised when playing original version, "Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 2" cuz the original version they have japanese name and have a black hair, they so neat to make the version, and when i think about it i feel like i forget some of the story, maybe i should play the game again... and ive been playing Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 4 (Disaster Report 4) but hmmm still cant beat this one xD, for way samurai i play all the series, this both game is truly a gem

Don't undersell Grim Grimoire! It's really great~ For others wondering what the gameplay is like: Its basically StarCraft but if it was made by a japanese studio that loves alcoholic drinks and Harry Potter. I'd say the only real downside would be that the game isn't playable with the ps2 mouse and keyboard, and it does get really rough difficulty wise if you aren't careful or new to the resource gathering style of RTSs. I'd recommend it as the gameplay is solid, yet the whole premise of the game is really out of left field and it serves up a nice dose of challenge.
