What a wonderful way to spread the joy of memorabilia. I'm sure fans will love this. I just decluttered, and my children didn't want anything. So I'm finding homes for items to people who will appreciate my "treasures." Lol Thanks for sharing this 🤗All the best from 🇨🇦♡
@nancyhammons3594 Exactly Nancy! Lol, all the stuff we keep to pass on, and nobody wants it, and it becomes such a burden to store in our aging years..
Not only was Lawrence Olivier famous so is his wife Joan Plowright. I think I’ve watched everything that she’s been in. I love everything about her. I live in the US and I have watched pretty much all of her movies. And she’s still going at 95 years old.
This is a good one - loaded, dimensional, enticing. At the end of the day, what is a powerfully impactful actor? I believe it is strong *spirit and strong personality. I see, in the face and manner of our gracious host, the genetics of both his parents. While no life is singularly or simply themed, what a gift of depth and breadth and delight. I'd always say, when Joan Plowright made appearance in a scene, something like the richest lights, the celebration and magic of a Christmas eve entered into visual and sense space. - Love her energies, her creative intelligence. What a dignified and vital *pair. What a dynamic, beautiful, and embracing homestead. Thank you, TCM, for your continued and official honoring of all our collective sentiment and curiosity. Bravo.
As an American I find that people here will automatically mate Olivier up with Vivien Leigh and don't know Joan Plowright at all. I think that's a shame because she was a great actress in her own right, in my eyes the equal of Leigh. Thanks to their son and TCM!
Absolutely! I love Vivien, so charismatic and so stunning, but I believe Joan Plowright was a far more versatile actress. Besides, Joan had a purple sofa a gold floral drapes🥰
I think of Joan Plowright as his great love. She’s the wife I think of when I see him in films. You are right, she was a wonderful actress. There was a homeliness about her. Lovely lady.
Yes indeed. Plowright won a Golden Globe for it which is now being auctioned off along with her Golden Globe for Stalin; both were featured in Tea with Dames (2018) featuring Plowright (the Globes were sitting at window in front of table where the ladies were gathered).
Did you ever see your Dad, was he too busy? I would like to hear from all of the classic hollywood children that are still alive today, please! This must happen TCM!
Interesting that they didn't discuss the Oscars sitting there so prominently. There are two but I think he received three -- one competitive and two honorary. I know that nowadays winners must agree not to sell their Oscars except back to the Academy but I wonder if Lord Olivier's from the 1940s are included in that rule. It will be an interesting auction to watch.
I only care about Olivier with his second wife the great actress, Vivien Leigh. They would roll over in their graves if they knew his son with his third wife would sell his precious acting Oscar and awards. Many people admired both of them. Too bad his legacy items will not go to a museum or an esteem acting schools to be admired!
Not going to be popular, but Vivienne Leigh was the love of his life. Such a passionate love. What a tragedy she had mental health issues. Dame Joan Plowright brought him the stability and normality he needed.
@ That’s what I thought. But I went back and looked a few different ways, though IMDB could certainly have incorrect information. It lists him as born 8/9/45, died 3/3/21; parents Joan Plowright and Laurence Olivier. I agree with you, I doubt he and/or his siblings are selling their father’s personal items because they need the money (as someone else commented). Numerous celebrities’ children auction off their famous parent’s possessions. I imagine they have kept plenty and simply decided to finally let go of an over abundance.
What a shame that the son feels the need to auction off his parents belongings for money. So sad he is unable to keep their legacy for the future generations. 😢
What an assumption..perhaps it was in his will? Perhaps the children agreed and wanted this? Perhaps museums have wanted the collection over the years? Perhaps there are estate taxes that need to be paid….Olivier and Plowright are British icons…may they live on….
Perhaps what the family treasures are family memories. They obviously are proud and respectful of their parents professional lives but there is a houseful of 'things' to have to look after.
Exactly & some very person items, I would love to have just a few items of my great grandparents can imagine down the line ancestors will be sad this happened.
I'm surprised by the son Julian, the way he talks isn't how I would expect the son of Laurence Olivier and Joan Plowright to talk - he does that going up at the end of his sentences, and he isn't grammatically correct on a few things, that's quite interesting...
@@annlittle6193she is but isn’t doing so well health wise. I can see why their kids decided to part with some things. They are starting the process of letting go. Very smart and good of them.

This is SO WRONG - to see Olivier's belongings crassly commoditized and trivialized by this huckster/salesman who is about as convincing as any common, pushy door-to-door peddler. Don't be fooled by the over-dramatic faux sincerity, smooth accent, and exaggerated sales talk - "and you ... could own this ... and have the (fist pump) good karma of Laurence Olivier," - with each item insensitively displayed with some tawdry suggested bid - totted up in U.S. dollars, of course. How did these profiteers convince Olivier's family to sell off such once-in-a-lifetime treasures? Are they only of monetary value to the heirs? Why are they not in museums or library collections?
Obviously you’re not worried about being sued for such blatant lies about Julian’s auctions. If his sons want to auction things off that’s their choice.
And bless Honorable Dame Joan Plowright! Still with us and beautiful as ever!
Joan Plowright made him very happy. She was a great actress in her own right.
He was a great actor- a wonderful kind man. I met him once back stage - he was so sweet and genuine.
I really appreciate the glimpse at Sir Laurence's treasures! He was a great actor.
He has a very similar voice to his father. My absolute favourite actor Sir Laurence Olivier, just wonderful ❤

One of the best actors of all time
Olivier was brilliant as Maxim de Winter in Rebecca. I'm actually reading the novel by Daphne du Marier right now!
You should watch Rebecca with Jeremy Brett for a contrast. It's on RUclips.
@@CatherineC.2123 I've watched both. Olivier was much better.

My very favorite version of Pride and Prejudice is the one with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson.
My favorite Joan Plowright movie is Enchanted April. Wonderful movie.

I hope his brother had a say in this bc that was his father too. 😮
Their family business is none of our business.

Why don't these 2nd generation people of greatness have similar talents? 😮
I can hear Larry’s voice when his son speaks
O,ivier was gorgeous.
Stunningly so.
He was!
Olivier ... No comma or apostrophe required.
Very interesting.
Son really favors his mother Joan Plowright.
Would be better to have these items in a museum or at a display in a grand theatre, Lotto funded purchase if there ever was one.

Is Joan going into a nursing home? She's still alive.
Who knows there's no information online. It's anyone's guess. But this house here is in the countryside so maybe Joan is closer to the city.
Any letters?
It’s not a happy thing for this man that he didn’t receive neither the voice nor the looks of his great father😢
It’s not a happy thing that you’re such a moron
I think he’s a blend of both parents. Straight nose like his dad and mouth like his mum. He speaks mum too 😊
I’m confused. When was this interview? IMDB has Richard deceased in 2021. Excellent interview though.
You’re looking at a different Richard O. Laurence’s son is still alive. Very successful from what I read so doubt he needed the money.
