Fascinating man, so free of hubris, his candour and self reflection are infectious. I thought his later performances in The Name Of The Rose and The Happy Prince were exceptional. Great interview.
Rupert is undoubtedly one of our finest living actors. If you have never seen 'Another County' then do so today. Somehow fate has consistently put him at the right place at the wrong time. I hope that his finest work is yet to come.
Fascinating bloke, ive always liked Everett but never knowing why. I like his outsider and misfit aspect to his life and it's authentic. Didn't know about his stage Career in Glasgow and how much he developed at the Citizens theatre. I really liked him as the Sherlock Holmes
In the 1980's my family were 'first nighters' at the Greenwich Theatre. I saw many wonderful productions, but the first night of Another Country has to be one of the best, if not THE best that we saw, that I have ever seen. I have never forgotten it. Rupert's performance that day was very special.
I moved into to the centre of Glasgow in 1978, a time of enormous change in Glasgow, the phrase ‘Glasgow’s Miles Better’ was coined. There was an amazing energy in the city. Buildings were cleaned up, music, fashion and arts developed at an astonishing pace. I no longer live there, but I try to go back regularly . There are two guys with a fruit stall beside the former ‘Chelsea Girl’ shop and Marks and Spencer in Argyll Street, they have been there since the early 80’s! Still love the city, the humour and the people.
I saw Rupert and Maria Aitken at the Citz , 1989, in The Vortex. You were mesmerising. Your gift for language as evidenced in your books has brought me so much pleasure. Goan yersel' Big Man. Kx.
Great interview .. Rupert was born a day before me ... interesting as when that happens you tend to live parallel lives and sometimes they cross or you have mutual friends ... very much enjoyed his autobiographies
Saw him in Another Country, was mesmerised by his shocking beauty. Not mentioned in the interview, but it must have shone a light over his earlier years.
I saw Mr. Everett at LAX in the 1990s and was so surprised how TALL he was! Then a few minutes later saw Lou Ferrigno THE HULK eating a Hamburger, .LOL. I LOVE LA!
Rupert was eyeing me up in the Jubilee Hall gym in Covent Garden in 1997.. I was 23 and just moved to London from the isle of wight.. i was equally thrilled and terrified 😂
37 years, and it didn't feel like you knew him that much...your questions often sounded like what might happen in therapy...Mr. Everett comes off well...
If JOB would just let the man speak! For example the Derick Jacobi account was not conveyed fully by the Rupert as JOBs interjects chopped the anecdote off at the ankles and we didn’t get the gist of it. Annoying!
Oh I’m shocked re- his reaction about the movie The Next Best Thing as I absolutely love that movie and I think Rupert is the star of it and he carries Madonna. I think it’s her reputation in movies at the time that caused that 🤔
It's interesting watching this immediately after the Christopher Lee documentary, as Lee also struggled in films due to his height until he broke through with Dracula.
I shall never recover from the tragedy of Covid cancelling the Broadway season that was to host the production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, featuring Rupert & Russell Tovey. Whatta twofer.
Saw him in the West End in Another Country when I was 13. Fell hopelessly in love and still am. Also saw him in The Vortex when I was 20 and a student in London. Brilliant, as was Maria Aitkin. If you ever get the chance to see him live, you won't regret it. Highly underrated theatre actor imho. By the way, best O'Brien interview I've ever seen. Bit of a fanboy James? ;)
Gosh yet another excruciating lefty luvvie! Not like James to only ever host those who already agree with him?? Where's the intellectual challenge in that??
When did anyone state that intellectual challenge was the aim of this podcast? He clearly states he is talking to people he finds interesting and wants to talk to. You clearly don't like the host, so why come to these videos? I don't go to channels I think will annoy me. Why do you? Does it make you feel better somehow?
@@jeffsimon9594 I suspect you'd probably class yourself as an ideological enemy of mine and I'm pretty sure I know more than enough of how you think to have any interest in pursuing the matter any further. Sometimes it's better to conserve your energy for more important issues. I doubt you'd be likely to be swayed by me or, come to that, by anyone else who doesn't share your particular world view.
I love that after being such a handsome young man as he has aged he does not look like he has gone down the cosmetic surgery or enhancement route like a lot of his peers (see Madonna), an actual person looking his own age, terrific.
Learn how to interview !The movie I did with Madonna no name the play and then movie that made you famous no fucken name Your book no title really a bad interviewer . Rupert was so interesting and you blew it
This was just brilliant interview,Rupert is just amazing ! I hope he will make his film!
What a refreshingly honest interview between two intelligent men.
So right! Brilliant!
Everret has long been a favourite of mine and this confirms it.
Fascinating man, so free of hubris, his candour and self reflection are infectious. I thought his later performances in The Name Of The Rose and The Happy Prince were exceptional. Great interview.
That was so lovely ......I have never seen Rupert in anything or heard him speak before.....but I can't remember an interview I enjoyed as much.
One of the most engaging interviews I’ve ever seen. Thank you.
What a refreshing open and honest man..not necessarily happy, but great to see. Thank you james, and you are perceptive . Keep doing this
a trully awesome actor and artist with integrity. we wish seeing him more in movies.
Rupert is undoubtedly one of our finest living actors. If you have never seen 'Another County' then do so today. Somehow fate has consistently put him at the right place at the wrong time. I hope that his finest work is yet to come.
I think coming out affected his career .
@deerheart87 ... Yes. If only he'd born a few decades later. Hollywood had a pigeon hole for him, into which he was never going to fit.

Really loved this interview. Thank you.

Rupert is a national treasure ....his books are well worth reading ...great interview ❤
Have also read & enjoyed some of Rupert's writing....fascinating....he seems to have come full circle with his life & hindsight realisations/views?!!
I have all his books. So lovely
Mr. Everett is my spirit animal!
I saw Rupert and Maria Aitken at the Citz , 1989, in The Vortex. You were mesmerising. Your gift for language as evidenced in your books has brought me so much pleasure. Goan yersel' Big Man. Kx.
What an interesting interview with a man I have fancied for decades :-)
“… I think I’m going to be wearing the skirt most mornings…” so funny, so wonderful.
RE also works ALL the time. I have seen him on broadway and in Ireland on stage and he is remarkable to watch in person
I never forget seeing him the first time in Niel Jordan's Dance With a Stranger.
I absolutely unconditionally love Rupert Everett I he is so down to earth.I hope I meet him before I die because I want my photo taken with him.
Me too Mary Poppins. I cried at the end because I wanted to see it all again
Great interview .. Rupert was born a day before me ... interesting as when that happens you tend to live parallel lives and sometimes they cross or you have mutual friends ... very much enjoyed his autobiographies
Love listening to Rupert. He's so interesting. I used to see him back in the day at the colehern in Earls court...
Saw him in Another Country, was mesmerised by his shocking beauty. Not mentioned in the interview, but it must have shone a light over his earlier years.
Could not stop laughing at the beginning school antics 😢😢😂😂😮😮😊
A great, easy honest interview. there's respect here. Bravo
What a great interview.
I saw Mr. Everett at LAX in the 1990s and was so surprised how TALL he was! Then a few minutes later saw Lou Ferrigno THE HULK eating a Hamburger, .LOL. I LOVE LA!
Rupert at the Glasgow Citizens Theatre! back in the day!
Rupert Everett seems such a nice man.
Rupert is wonderful. Such a British institution. I'm glad he's returned to the UK. His autobiographies are great.
Love James's writing too.
I agree great writer. Will get latest book for my next holiday read
Great interview. I had no idea he was an author too
His memoirs are a great read
Great interview
A wonderful man. Rupert is!
Wonderful interview. This is new to me. I look forward to you past and future interviews. 👍
saw him first in Another Country
Great interview.
Rupert was way ahead of his time and did it with elegance and style.
Rupert was eyeing me up in the Jubilee Hall gym in Covent Garden in 1997.. I was 23 and just moved to London from the isle of wight.. i was equally thrilled and terrified 😂
Such an interesting man
Amazing. Give us more
Forced rhubarb! Genius. This has got to be one of my favourite metaphors.
Please let Rupert talk. Second guessing and finishing his comments diminishes an interview.
Brilliant interview 🎉
What a great interview. Rupert is amazing- and that is coming from someone who went to Stonyhurst !
37 years, and it didn't feel like you knew him that much...your questions often sounded like what might happen in therapy...Mr. Everett comes off well...
He didn't know him at school... and never met him.
Great hearing about Glasgow in those terms , the Glasgow I recognise
Mary Poppins was my first movie too!
Me too 😂...we hid in the toilets where I grew up in Belfast and snuck back in again.
“Mary Poppins”!!! My first movie, too!
If JOB would just let the man speak! For example the Derick Jacobi account was not conveyed fully by the Rupert as JOBs interjects chopped the anecdote off at the ankles and we didn’t get the gist of it. Annoying!
Wow, Rupert is still so handsome!
Oh I’m shocked re- his reaction about the movie The Next Best Thing as I absolutely love that movie and I think Rupert is the star of it and he carries Madonna. I think it’s her reputation in movies at the time that caused that 🤔
❤ this
I thought so too. It was alright. Relationships are incredibly tricky. Cortorised, there's always a bit of you trapped back there!
cauterised. just so you know :)
Refreshing to hear someone not moan about their childhood or addiction.

Why are the first three comments on this video Bots? Despite that, this is an excellent episode.
Very odd. Who programs these things and why?
Jimmy , it's not all about you .
Love Rubert Everett ! Bless him, he needs that wattle reduced .
At the start I thought you'd have spoken about Tim Oulton.
Brilliant
O'Brien has his assumptions contradicted so many times here. I wonder if the two of them felt no rapport with one another.
❤
I don't think Maria Aitken has ever pronounced her name the Italian way.
Just Pink Champagne....?
Rupert est comme le bon vin. Il se bonifie.
Saw him in the West End in Another Country when I was 13. Fell hopelessly in love and still am. Also saw him in The Vortex when I was 20 and a student in London. Brilliant, as was Maria Aitkin. Have you got a story you'd like to tell James?🤔...
BRILLIANT AND CHUMMY TA MUCHLY
He made one of the worst movies ever made: The Next Best Thing with Madonna.
Never cared for him. Always thought he was self satisfied and “fabulous”
Like fabulous is a *bad* thing?
@ it can be from time to time
Still can't believe he did that to his face
Thoughts on the Alison Pearson fiasco Jimmy?
No thought not
He has smoker's fingers.
He looks like a washed out old hustler who got lucky

He is the definition of echo chamber and is dangerous radical left imo.
@@mattyr40 ahahahahaaaa 😂.

Yawn yawn ..
Nighty night....
I can’t imagine who would be interested in what Rupert Everett does or think - what a waste of electricity
Give it a listen and see what you think afterwards.
Look around...
You should have stopped at “I can’t imagine!”
Only left with one word .
YUK !

His height was why he was so badly cast as Charles the First.
Great interview
