Introducing WFB-ng! Is OpenHD in trouble?

  • Introducing the new Wifibroadcast next generation! (WFB-ng)
    This is NOT a fork of any other project!
    It is created by Vasily (svpcom) and OpenHD forked it and used it.
    Vasily also created the only working patched Realtek rtl8812au driver for the wifibroadcast that OpenHD is using.
    So, basically, it’s the “father” of OpenHD!
    This VTX software is the only one in the world that can run on Raspberry Pi0/02W/2/3A/3B/3Bmini/4B, Jetson nano/TX2, some other linux based devices and for the first time ever on a X86 Linux computer!
    Exactly! You don’t need any additional hardware for the Ground station!🤯
    That makes it probably the cheapest available solution for a digital VTX system because everyone has an old laptop somewhere around them to test this software. It supports H264 for all hardware and H265 for all Jetson nano series and laptops with a compatible GPU for decoding.
    This video demonstrates the H265 capabilities of WFB-ng!
    For more information please visit this website: www.wfb-ng.com
    If you want to join the community click the link below:

    Please watch the full video because there are very useful information regarding the brand new software.
    RUclips compressed the video so I uploaded the original video from the Ground station Jetson nano. The WFB-ng has a build-in video recorder (DVR)! Cheers! 😊🍻

    You should also put a small vidéo in h264 (with pi0/2 for example), for just us to view it..

    I just came across this! @MarioFPV I'm curious, what is the actual latency like? And I imagine you can basically use any camera that will work on a RPi??

    • @mariofpv
      @mariofpv  Год назад +5

      The latency feels similar to the one that the DJI FPV system has when you fly long range. You can use ANY camera that is available for RPI (or Jetson Nano if you use one for Air Unit) as long as you load the correct camera driver and use a gstreamer pipeline specifically for the camera. Some cameras have very specific gstreamer pipelines. There are so many examples on the internet. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    Does OpenHD or OpenIPC offer any additional features? In other words, is there any reason to use them over wfb-ng in 2024? What is your latency btw?

    • @mariofpv
      @mariofpv  4 месяца назад

      Don’t use OpenHD, it is just a copy of WFB-ng which a few extra features. OpenIPC has h265 encoding, 35ms latency and the original updated WFB-ng link for ultra long range flights. There are also OpenIPC hardware to buy. Search for my video tutorials. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    I tried to find out how, openHD and WFB-ng relate to each other. But I can't find a fork from WFB-ng to openHD. Where did you get your info from?

    • @mariofpv
      @mariofpv  Год назад +3

      You discovered this video one year after I published it. So a year ago you could browse the GitHub repo of OpenHD and you would be able to see a folder called “wifibroadcast” which was forked by WFB-ng repo of svpcom. The new OpenHD developers removed every trace of that so they can claim their source code is not related to WFB-ng. They should be ashamed of that because as an open source community we should always give properly credits to the original authors. Their attitude is arrogant and nowhere near as the attitude of the old developers. And that is why very few are actually supporting their privatised project. They keep giving false promises about a new hardware that will never come and even if it comes it will be outdated and very expensive compared to other options that are now available in the market. Cheers!😊🍻

      Yes, this VTX system can use any Linux hardware with powerful GPU (GTX/RTX) to have ultra low latency, even below 50ms.
      The only extra hardware you would need is a Jetson nano with a MIPI camera and 2X ASUS AC56 WiFi modules! Cheers mate!😊🍻

      I didn’t compare the video quality of OHD 2.1. Notice that I’m comparing the range! Also I can’t record on the Ground station of OHD2.1 and so I only have the bad quality video of the HDMI recorder. Cheers mate!😉🍻

    • @mariofpv
      @mariofpv  2 года назад +2

      You are confusing OHD 2.0.x with OHD 2.1.
      OHD 2.0.x can run only on RPi and has H264 encoding with a lot of latency but long range capabilities.
      OHD 2.1 can run on Jetson and RPi and has H265 encoding with low latency but for the moment only 800-900m range.
      WFB-NG can run on Jetson, X86 Linux computer/laptop without additional hardware(!), Linux TV boxes etc. and all RPi, it supports H265 encoding with low latency and it has very long range capabilities just like any WFB based project. Cheers!🍻
