I think this is when the NBA Jam lineage of games hit its peak. Remember when this hit the arcades and it was way more competitive than Jam because of how fast paced it was with tighter controls and the all top was a game changer. Definitely had some battles and was even better when it came to home console, was one of the first N64 game I bought
By the way it was the Houston Rockets that Clyde The Glide Drexler played on. I saw him at the shack in Seattle, WA against my Seattle Supersonics. He was along Hakeem Olajuwon. Was a good game we won by 23. When we had Kemp and Payton. Yeah, this a great game and I also remember playing this in the arcade! Had it on the N64 as well! NBA jam and NFL Blitz loved those as well! Good memory lane video.
Nice gameplay! I played this for sure and it was fun but it wasn’t the same. I spent thousands of hours in NBA JAM and NBA JAM TE the most. The announcer and music was legendary in NBA JAM. 👍🏽
This game's so good. I actually didn't play it until way later after NBA Jam TE so when I did play it I was like "Wait. There's another game just like NBA Jam?! YEESSS"
I’d disagree because some games converted to consoles were balanced and tuned to be more fun and less about ganking people for quarters. And contra on the NES is far better than playing the arcade version
@@nategreatgames78 That's why i said "imo" Graphics and sound is always better on arcade now matter how close the console versions come. And you mean contra arcade is "too hard" for you? so you prefer NES? 😅Something to keep in mind here is that the arcade games top priority goal is not for our amusement and have fun, but for them getting a lot of money from it. So yeah gameplay wise consoles are better balanced as they are developped for our amusement.
@@RickAstleyLetMeDown and I said I disagree, not you’re wrong. And I’d say both contras are difficult maybe the nes even more so, because one grip I have with the arcade version is it’s really short, where as the nes version had more levels and a bunch of extra bosses not in the arcade version. But because it wasn’t just made with the thought of being a quarter muncher people would just spend a few minutes playing it had better level design and the extras I mentioned to rival the other games on the nes. I’d guess most people would say the nes contra was better.
What I like in this game compared to JAM and JAM T.E. is the speed, extra features, and that damn rubber banding isn't as bad in this. Once you beat all the teams, it ramps up but it's easy to get a 15 to 30 point lead. I had this version for my PC back in day, a long with WWF WrestleMania the arcade game. That was the authentic way to go.
Showtime was where these kinds of games started to be a turnoff for me, once it went into the 3d realm it lost some fun factor, I didn’t really like another game like this until NBA street 2
Well, the Hangtime naming was due to Acclaim taking the name title out of Midway's hands with the ports of vanilla and Tournament Editions of NBA Jam, still, it's a great game... and has an update that was Arcade exclusive... just add Maximum after NBA in the title and there you have the update.
Yes!!!! This game is amazing! I have every single version of this game. The N64 port is fantastic
Dang! I appreciate the chang up in games while keeping the arcade vibe alive

😂 I created my own “Jordan” player with hair. Loved this game!
Such a fun game!
Oh man, one of my first all nighters was playing this with my friends on an N64 hooked up to a projector TV. Great game!
I love them all, but NBA Showtime (with the NBC intro music) is fucking legendary.

He's on fire! Boomshackalacka This is a NEAT game! I had this on N64 and liked changing Rodman's hair color.
DOUBLE DUNK! ALLEY OOP! THE TEAM IS ON FIRE! TOOK HIM OUT!

Great game. I used to play this with my brother a lot. You can create custom players with special skins (Alien, Werewolf, Wizard, etc.).
Nice different game
BOOM SHAKALAKA! Love this game.
That NBA looks cool 😎
So many consoles but nothing ever comes close to the real arcade versions of any game imo. It just has that little extra magical touch to it

I had the Genesis Version, it was fun shoving people before they could dunk
Damnnnn I used to luv this game

Super fun game
another gud vid
Arcade has Maximum Hangtime
Never played this one but Showtime was my game. Loved the NBA on NBC TV style presentation
Showtime was where these kinds of games started to be a turnoff for me, once it went into the 3d realm it lost some fun factor, I didn’t really like another game like this until NBA street 2
I had Jam TE for Sega Genesis, 32X. Hangtime for Genesis, Showtime For Dreamcast
Love NBA on NBC, but not a fan of blocky characters instead of digitized
@@TheJL2kShow same
@@nategreatgames78NBA Street is legendary. Loved those games a lot.
Good to play a simple game to give your mind a break. Do the NFL BLITZ.
Pretty sure you can be Tobias and Boon in this. Maybe Sal Divita?
Pissed it had no Shaq because of licensing. Same with Jordan. But this game has peak 90s music
I rather play this on the Sega Genesis because the controls are a lot better than arcade joysticks.
You can’t be serious.
Is this the same as NBA Jam??
It’s was midways next game after nba jam tournament edition
Yes! This is the same as NBA JAM unfortunately, Midway lost the NBA JAM rights to acclaim.
Hot take - I thought this was funner than nba jam personally.
I agree. I loved the gameplay of Hangtime over Jam.
