  • I made the Patina blouse from Friday pattern co mainly drawn to the cute Chelsea collar on the front and all the delicate details. It’s for woven fabrics and I really enjoyed using a border print rayon to highlight all the features.
    I’m sharing a pattern review and also the sewing of the collar, facing and neckline. Come join me!

    Your blouse, sewing construction and procedures are exceptional! Everything is so perfect, I applaud you and your completed blouse! I absolutely love this style blouse. Before my cancer surgeries last year, I used to sew all my own blouses, slacks, etc. As soon as I work out the details of adjusting for a forward shoulder ball joint on the right side, I hope to resume sewing again very soon. You've really inspired me, thank you!

    I’m so slow at cutting out, cos I love prints, & pattern placement makes an enormous difference. I loved seeing how you cut this out. So thoughtfully done, & it really shows. Your buttons play the perfect supporting role!

    I made this blouse today, I just have the hem and buttonholes and buttons to finish. Sadly, I hadn't seen this video first. However, it's fine, it's a good fit, and I sewed slowly and tried to be really precise. I changed the sleeves as I chose the short sleeve version and they were too long, only marginally above the elbow, and far too wide. So, I chopped off 2.5" and gathered them, then added a narrow, self-made, bias binding. I am happy with the result. Your blouse is superb. I never find border prints here in the UK!

    Beautiful blouse! I too like to take my time when cutting out fabric. Sometimes it does take hours to figure out exactly the way you want it to look. That is a fun part for me. I enjoy that process. Thanks for the tip on interfacing the entire collar facing.

    Just lovely! I’ve been sewing knits and I have a couple of tees to make, then I’ll be ready for some woven and this blouse in a blue, black and cream paisley is what I’m going to make. I also really like the white example they show on the website and if this first one I make turns out, I want to make a similar white one in a lighter weight for summer.
    Thank you so much Karina! I’m very motivated!

    I really appreciate that you dress so modestly. Too many women show far too much skin, thinking they look good. They don't, just cheap. You always look lovely but you do have one bad habit, Karina. You get your fingers far too close to the blade of your rotary cutter. I always hold my breath and hope the cutter does not slip, which can happen to even someone as experienced as you are. This blouse is beautiful. Thank you for this delightful tutorial.

    Karina, your Patina blouse is beautiful. I am going to be making the same pattern, but I need to lengthen my long sleeve. I will need to lengthen it by 1 1/2 inches according to the finished measurements, but wonder if and how much extra I would have to add to allow for the sleeve to billow? I really enjoy your videos and think you are a wonderful teacher!

    Beautiful blouse! The collar really suits you too. I am wondering how heavy the interfacing was and was it a washable/dryable interfacing or does it need to be dry cleaned? There are so many weights when it comes to interfacing, but patterns rarely explain what weight of interfacing to use. I get tired of trial and error with interfacing weights. Thanks so much.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 года назад

      I’m not much help when it comes to interfacing because I don’t have any options here. I buy lightweight interfacing that can be washed, it’s unbranded…. It does work well for my needs. I don’t have any heavier one than this. The other type I use it stretch tricot interfacing …. But I don’t use that for wovens.

    Beautifully done as always. I know you normally do your Fba just wondering what your thoughts on Nancy Zieman pivot and slide technique

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 года назад

      I’m not a fan of the pivot and slide because it also adds extra ease at the upper chest area and that is an area I would like to keep as per the original fit. I’d rather do the traditional method that only adds the extra at the height of the bust and not above it. I know the pivot and slide works well for a lot of people , but it is not my preference.

    • @debm460
      @debm460 2 года назад

      I was just looking at the video regarding this technique. Thanks for commenting Karina and Catherine, glad you asked. A lady did this on her Ogden cami. I thought the traditional way of doing the FBA looked better. Pivot and slide is easier. She went with easy.

    I do love your blouse! So many blouse patterns say to interface the undercollar. How do you determine when to interface the upper fabric or the lower fabric of the pattern piece? That part has always been a mystery to me. Thanks for your video. It’s so helpful!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  2 года назад +1

      I prefer to interface the visible collar because it will look crisp and smooth. You’ll find instructions that say to do this, or not. I know what I like so I interfaced the upper collar :)
