The 2:1s were clearly a strength in this setup, but also keep in mind the advantages of playing with your settles side-by-side - There are many games where high production + 3:1 port is all you need. By controlling space on the board, we took less critical blocks, had an easier connect for longest road, and had access to many quick points with our uncontested road settles. Glad it helped!
@@dandydrew Every board is different. It’s not often you have 8 of a resource next to a 2:1 of that resource. And next to it 5 and 9 of a resource next to a 2:1 of that resource. That allowed for the setup to be close together and unblockable
He is the best catan player out there. Period. There is a gap of skill that is huge between him and Dylighted and everyone else even in the competitive scene.
@@dandydrew Subscribed! Looking forward to watching your first video, just the next few days an hour seems like a lot of commitment ^^ Talk to you soon :)
I'm really loving this upload schedule. I follow several Catan players, but your content is the best. You take the game to such a high level, the way you track what everyone has and needs all the time.
For what it's worth, all our games that will be featured were played back-to-back. In the long run if you can maintain a 35-40% win rate, you are crushing!
Loving these videos. Watching and listening to two people at the top of the game strategize is gold for my personal Catan play. Just like the old days with likethegroundhog!!
I love your channel! Don't stop making videos you have completely changed my game! I'm not great at counting cards. Could you do a video on counting card tips? It doesn't come naturally to me
Dylighted taking the 9 sheep at the start was a better decision overall since you are doubled up with starting sheep port and your nines and fives rolled a bunch so taking it would’ve made you win faster
Lol this is crazy I’m purple, GG. Got some unlucky devs and rolls but that is the game, definitely made some blunders as well. Makes it easier to stomach a loss knowing it came from the best 😅
I wasn’t sure if there’s enough demand for it, but if people really want it then I’ll eventually do it. One of the main things though is that the base game universally more recognizable than cities and knights.
@@DyLightedPlaysCatan the fans can have a little cities and knights every once in awhile - as a treat. Agreed that the base game is more universally recognizable, but it would be really cool to see your take on the others maps/modes. Thanks Dylan!
You say he's teaching you. But every little thing he says you have to say "I agree" and proceed to explain it to him. I wouldn't mind it as much if you were talking to the viewers.
Nice game! but "Insane strategy"? What a clickbait... this was a very standard road strategy with strong ports. Also I think that taking 3-4-8 would have been a huge mistake, because there's a high chance that purple takes 4-8-10 5-6-11, and you're stuck taking the 5-9-10 and playing OWS with no wheat.
Not blaming anyone, I'm a big fan of his content, and I have no problem with him doing what he needs to do to please the algorithm. Having said that, if I see a spade I'm going to call it a spade.
Now that's a great video to learn from. I feel like the strength of a well supplied 2/1 port is under appreciated in this game.

So interesting to hear his thoughts and rationale behind making different decisions, you can tell he's an extremely strong player.

I hope dandydrew creates a youtube channel and twitch. He has everything he needs to make some top tier catan content
m.twitch.tv/gmdandydrew
He has classes on twitch that are top notch
Actually he created a whole invitational tournament in the underground catan scene
Done. :)

I feel like Dy always gets so lucky with the rolls and dev cards, I mean the 2 devs he got were exactly the ones he needed.
watch his twitch and you'll see he gets unlucky a lot as well. It's just that he only uploads the entertaining games
He posts more victory’s than losses lol, gotta remember this is a highlight reel

Thank you Dylan for blessing us with more Catan gameplay. I watched other people but your videos just hit different. Please continue uploading!

Pretty unortodox choice of a set up - was fun to watch!
Yessss more videos Dylan thank you!
Tomorrow I will get my $100, man. It's good you have a coach cause you will really need him ;)

this was a pleasure to watch gameplay-wise, brilliant as you say

Maybe, but he didn't know that 9's and 5's were going to come up a lot. I like to hear about what were teh best plays, playing the percentages.
What an insane set up just goes to show that on some boards you can afford to pass on ore to guarantee monster production
Such a clean game. Two relevant 2:1 Ports is pretty much always GG in my experience.
Yeah useful ports + uncontested settlement spots is a wicked combo
love this type of video Dylighted ^^
It’s got that old Monster Magnet vibe with a splash of Karma to Burn. I like it.
I'm so glad you are back to posting on yt. where did you go?
This guy is really good... Win rate so high
How do I play catan on the computer like they are?
Does anyone know when the tournament times will be announced? I’ve signed up and I’m so excited!!
Where can I play this version?
What is DandyDrew's username on colonist? Not clear to me where he’s ranked now.
What program is this? It looks cleaner than the one I have on my phone lol
Sorry, new to this, what is 'pop' ?
On paper it should be better to put that road from 9/5 cuz it shovs 3 roads insted of 4 at graf. And you can still connect with 1 road
What does “pop” mean?
Pop means to buy development cards! Sorry I forgot to include that :(
Would love to see more port strategy games
nice to sse you posting regulary

There were some really interesting strategy decisions, and I'd argue not going with the super strong Ore spot is pretty unorthodox.
