Fun fact; Dennis Franz WAS initially approached by The Chicks to play one of the officers (due to his NYPD Blue past), but he insisted on playing Earl 😂
As noted, The Chicks were cancelled back in early 2000's by Country radio and Conservative media/politicians after Natalie Mains told an English audience she was embarrassed George W. Bush was from Texas. They've been "cancelled" ever since but they're still a very successful band. Last year, they released a very political album in the midst of the BLM movement. Back in the day, they were considered a Bluegrass band. Nowadays, they span genres.
I was on a field trip with second grade class when this song was popular . The bus driver came up to me and told me he thought the kids where plotting to kill him . I was like what ? He was like yea they even made a song about it . He started saying some of the lines . I laughed so hard didn’t mean too but did just busted out laughing . The bus drivers name was Mr Earl . He was about 70 years old never heard the song . Thought the kids was talking about him . Oh we laughed about that every time we seen each other till he passed away . Thank you for a great memory
They did a gorgeous version of, "Landslide" that shows off Natalie's vocal ability. I saw them in concert at the height of their careers and then again about 5 years ago and she still sounds just as great. You'd swear they're lip syncing during their performance until they switch up the melodies a little or talk in the middle of it. Their sound kind of runs the gamut, but another super fun one is, "Sin Wagon," (inspired by the scene in "Grease," where Sandy calls Danny's car a sin wagon.) They definitely have the vocal chops and the fiddle playing is amazing, too!
I know i am really late to this one...LOL...but the banjo,fiddle/violin, guitar, mandolin , dobro are all played by Marty and Emily...and yes Natalie has an amazing voice, this song was fun,but they can really show out when they want too...also,they are amazing live, Traveling Soldier is live, there are probably more. I know you guys love hearing artists perform live so that is why i told you/ Thanks for another great reaction :)
Love this song. I had a best friend when this song came out. She always said she wanted to do a goodbye Earl to my husband at the time. She's passed, and every time I hear this song, I cry and laugh at the same. Thank you, Robin. I miss you
At a 2003 performance in London, Natalie Maines of the American country band the Dixie Chicks, now known as the Chicks, made a statement criticizing President George W. Bush and the imminent Allied invasion of Iraq. ... The backlash damaged sales of the Dixie Chicks' music and concert tickets……Another FUN Country song you should try is… Toby Keith’s Let’s Talk about Me
Didn't just damage. They were literally blacklisted a lot of places and forced off the air at a lot of radio stations. The number of female country artists getting airplay has dropped significantly since then.
what always gets me with this song is i have a sister named wanda who would NEVER put up with a man like earl. she'd get straight to the revenge stage within moments of the first hit.

For me I'm always reminded of American Werewolf in London where the dead friend, Jack(in the adult movie theatre) progressively decays each time David(Werewolf) goes to see him.
They had a great career until they spoke their mind about the president (at the time) and got shut down, death threats, etc. They even wrote a song about it called "Not Ready To Make Nice".... Very deep song but they're voices sound amazing in it!
Great reaction guys! BTW, I'm curious if Maryann in the video looked familiar (if you're an NCIS fan, she played Dir. Jenny Shepard from '05-'08). And yes, they were pretty much blacklisted by the industry over some comments they made at a 2003 UK concert. In 2006, they won several Grammys for the song they wrote about the whole experience called "Not Ready To Make Nice". It's their best song, IMHO.
My husband and I saw The Chicks live last month in Little Rock. Goodbye Earl was their encore song and everyone in the place were screaming the lyrics along with them, it was amazing. They put on a hell of a show.
Did y’all’s womens “urge” y’all to do this by hiding the bourbon and you only get the good stuff when you listen to a country music song? Just kidding. Can you do Toby Keith’s As Good as I Once Was? Video is hilarious!
Hahaha! No, they don't mind the bourbon, we don't get sloppy... often. That songs on our list, and I've added a request tally next to it, thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for reminding me NYPD Blue! I know Dennis Franz was in a cop show just couldn't remember which one. This song brings domestic violence out in the open. Dennis wanted to do this if it would help anyone suffering from abuse.
HIM! OMG; you're right! I never noticed before. I know you're not laughing at the PLAN, but the cheerful, giddy way they sing about it! LOL You get to see Earl again before the video ends, don't worry! As a woman, it makes you laugh. Even when you married an Earl somewhere down the line too. Sipawitz. Yes I remember him! Thank you for pointing that out! I love "zombie earl" dancing with them at the end.
Sometimes you and your BFF just have to take out the trash. Also, NYPD Blue was the best cop show of all time. Yes, I love Law & Order, especially SVU, but NYPD Blue was gritter and Dennis Franz played on of televisions most memorable characters of all time in Andy Sipowicz.
Natalie Maines is the lead vocalist, but the other two girls started the band. They are sisters who are incredibly gifted instrumentalists, like MANY instruments. They were huge, then they came out saying something about being ashamed of being Americans or something like that. Started a whole thing with Toby Keith and killed the band's popularity.
You guys will like "Pray For You" by Jarrod and The Long Road to Love. Trust me you guys will love it. It's not going to be anything you expect I promise 😂🤣
3:31 If the best Wanda could find was Earl, what does that say about the rest of the men in that town? To me it is more of the Dixie Chicks spreading awareness about DV and how in most cases extreme measures must be taken. The beat makes it light heart while still telling young women to get out of such relationships as fast as possible.
Another one of their fun songs is "White Trash Wedding"... and yes Keith, you were correct, there was a bit of a hooha a couple of years back...something to do with dubya...it caused a massive sh1t fight, the girls went to ground for a couple of years and just recently they started to resurface... they dropped the "Dixie" from their name and now just go by "The Chicks"... not sure if they have any new music out, but I really enjoy most of the older stuff... ;)

NOT a Dixie Chicks fan but this song is cute. I just realized y'all are from Carmel, IN. I grew up in Anderson, IN. I'll wave next time I visit home...
In a concert in London England Natalie made the statement that she was ashamed that President Bush was from Texas, in regards to entering Iraq. I think the backlash was over the top, the biggest issue people was that she did it outside of the States because she knew the reaction she would have gotten from most people in a US concert.
don't worry Sipowitz gets what's coming to him.....lol He was like the fatest cop in the history of TV cop shows. The Dixie Chicks are really good, this song has a bit more of a sarcastic comedy vibe to it. The Chicks have mad violin and banjo skills. You are right this is not a song where they used all of their talent. They can sing, and they sing gorgeous songs and great harmonies. "Cowboy Take Me Away", "Wide Open Spaces", "Travelin Soldier" and "I'm not ready to Make Nice" are songs that show off their vocal talent more and their instrumental ability.
We love requests, and I capture every one of them onto our list. Regarding bourbon, for starting out, I'd recommend Ezra Brooks Bourbon Whisky or Woodford Reserve Distillers Select. Another decent starter is Basil Hayden, or Makers Mark 101. If you try any of them, please share your thoughts!
I love this song. Travelin’ Soldier, Not Ready To Make Nice was a song that was written over The Chicks lead singer Natalie M. who made a statement at a 2003 concert in London criticizing President Bush and the imminent Allied invasion of Iraq. Maiines said the band was ashamed to be from the same state as the President because they didn’t support the war. After that the repercussions were fast, they were blacklisted by thousands of country radio stations even the band members received death threats. Country musicians were angry and their ticket sales went south fast. So did record sales. Now, she backpedaled and said she was sorry and she had been disrespectful only to rescind the apology in 2006 saying Bush didn’t deserve “no respect.” NYPD Blue was a great show. The video is great! I’m pretty sure they all play multiple instruments. Very talented.
I was a huge fan of NYPD Blue. Lucky for us Dennis Franz wasn't the only one who bared their backside on the show. I thought it was funny that anytime someone new joined the cast, they were asked when they were stripping down for the camera. Several years ago Natalie, the Chicks' lead singer, made some political statements and comments during a concert talking trash on Bush (our president at the time) as well as the Iraq war. That is probably the controversy you remember because it led to getting their music banned by many radio stations nationwide and really hurting their ticket sales on their tour. Natalie also couldn't contain herself when it came to the Toby Keith song "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)". She publicly called him out saying he, and the song were "ignorant". This kicked off another controversy in the form of a very public rift between the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith. Mr. Keith ended it when he quit giving them any attention and turning his focus to a personal issue one of his bandmates was going through. Back to the music! Due to the overly sensitive direction of the country these days, the Dixie Chicks changed their band name to Chicks. Their music is still good, in spite of their politics. Check out "Long Time Gone", "Landslide", and "You Were Mine".
No, No, Wait, you guys need to watch the chicks live. Watch: March, March, Traveling Soldier, Wide open spaces. They are amazing Song Writers, Lyricists, and Amazing guitars, banjos, etc…….
You guys need…I repeat NEED to react to Lindsey Stirling Shatter Me ft Lzzy Hale. Do the official video though. You won’t be disappointed. Both ladies are amazing
Best friends, sisters, daughter's and Mothers have a plan. No one will ever find the bodies. 🤣🤣🤣 Highway 109 is a State Route that runs from Portland all the way down south and this video is the part of it closet to Lebanon. In middle Tennessee.
If you really like banjo, check out "Fogggy Mountain Breakdown" by Lester Flatt ang Earl Scruggs. Earl is the most innovative pickers in bluegrass history. If you want a reference, the wrote, played, and recorded the theme to "The Beverly Hillbillies", the origional show. Earl was born in my hometown in the foothills of North Carolina.
The Chicks have some great music. Some to try (if you haven't!) are Sin Wagon, Take Me Away, and Travlin Soldier. Travlin Soldier is one of my all time favorites.
Shunned for saying the reason for the IRAQ war was oil, not weapons of mass destruction. Spoiler Alert: She was right. But people just want to be entertained, not enlightened. So they were cancelled by country music radio stations and fans.
More good songs to listen to by The Chicks are…. Cowboy Take Me Away… Wide Open Spaces.. Traveling Soldier… Long Time Gone… and the song they wrote after the Bush controversy… Not Ready to Make Nice.
It was great watching your reactions to the song. 😁 The controversy with The Dixie Chicks was when Natalie Maine - the main singer - spoke out against George Bush sr. About something. I remember how much many here in Canada were on her side over her stand as we didn't agree with him about whatever it was she spoke out against at the time. Sorry for the convoluted way I said that. haha I remember when NYPD Blue came out & could've watched it but didn't. Now that I actually want to watch the show, I can't find it anywhere! Of course! haha This is my first video of yours that I've seen & I subscribed for your reactions to music videos. 😁
@@BourbonCountryReacts thanks. That's what I've heard, but we here in Canada can't access Hulu. I'm going to keep looking, though. Maybe my local library has it on DVD. It has a lot. 🙂
@@BourbonCountryReacts The controversy was not that she spoke against him but, that she used her platform and spoke against our President on foreign soil.
It wasn't Sr. but Jr. during the time when it wasn't yet cool to speak against the Iraq War. The backlash was immediate and marked. You don't know what cancelling is until you see what happened to them.
Sipowitz asked to play the role of Earl in this video. A British band (The Beautiful South) made a cracking murder song Woman in the Wall that is worth a listen. Check out Not Ready to Make Nice by the Chicks for a little more depth from them.
Out of the Nashville-country fans backlash-"cancelling" of The Dixie Chicks over Natalie's statement, they rose from the ashes With A grammy for Song of the year in 2007 ( Not Ready To make nice" from their Album of the year " Taking the long way". Other favs of mine are "Wide open spaces" & Cowboy Take me away"
You should listen to carrie underwood southbound. Its a fun summer song. My give a dams busted by jo dee massina, I think yall will get a kick out of. Lucky 4 you by shedaisy is another really funny song
Dennis Franz was probably still on NYPD Blue when this song came out. Jane Krakowski had to have been near Ally McBeal days. Lauren Holly was Dumb and Dumber. Each of these stars were pretty big when this video came out.
You've read what the controversy was with them, but the biggest issue is that they're female in the music business. A male singer could have worn the same jacket & made the same statement & would have just been called a Renegade for it. The usual double standard. Taylor Swift said she was told most of her career "Don't be like the Dixie Chicks" meaning don't be too strong or have opinions, just shut up & sing! I'm glad younger generations of women like Swift aren't letting themselves be pushed around anymore. Being strong & speaking your mind should be celebrated, especially since big performers like that travel the world & are exposed to way more culture then most Americans so they may have a better hold on what's going on out in the world! Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now! Great reaction!
I've never had much respect for the "music industry." And by that, I really mean the labels. But then, I really don't know a ton about it, so, I'm out of my lane. - Keith
If you want some funny songs, you should try something by Ray Stevens. "It's Me Again Margaret" or "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" are two of the funniest songs I have ever heard.

The Dixie Chicks were completely shunned by country music and did create a rock album. Her voice can pretty much do anything.
Exactly
Natalie Maine is an amazing vocalist! You are correct that she can belt it out!
Is she the blonde?
@@BourbonCountryReacts yes she is the lead singer. I believe she has darker hair now. The other two women, Emily and Martie are sisters.

Back to the music! Due to the overly sensitive direction of the country these days, the Dixie Chicks changed their band name to Chicks. Their music is still good, in spite of their politics. Check out "Long Time Gone", "Landslide", and "You Were Mine".
We'll add those songs to our list.
I wish they would make a comeback. Its been long enough since they were cancelled.
They said they were ashamed that George Bush was their President while they were in England.😊😊😊
This is a funny song that is supposed to call attention to partner abuse.
Is Lindsey Stirling that super showy violinist?
This is still darkly hilarious!
And I do love me some dark humor. - Keith
NYPD blue was very good. But I think I liked Hillstreet Blues better. Loved your reactions.
Y'all should do Ready To Run by the Dixie Chicks
We'll add it to our list.
Oh, now you're talking my language. I've listened to that dozens of times. Talk about legendary strings players...
Have you guys ever done. Meatloaf "Paradise by the dashboard lights". Must do the video. It is hilarious.
Great song great reaction!!
Thanks!
The Chicks have some great music. Some to try (if you haven't!) are Sin Wagon, Take Me Away, and Travlin Soldier. Travlin Soldier is one of my all time favorites.
We check out Traveling Soldier here:

Votes added for the other's we've yet to react to -Dustin
I believe this song was written for them by Dennis Leary, which is probably the weirdest piece of trivia I know about this song.
What??? How did I not know that. Wowzers.
My brother & I wore this song out.
As a chick, this was"roadtrippin" music to me. Driving from Tx. to Ky, and Fl. to Ky.
Check out Martina Mc Bride song When God Fearing Women Get the Blues.
I’m 70 and my mom used to talk about ‘driving music’ lol.
Shunned for saying the reason for the IRAQ war was oil, not weapons of mass destruction.
Spoiler Alert: She was right. But people just want to be entertained, not enlightened. So they were cancelled by country music radio stations and fans.
They were ostracized after speaking out against GWB for blaming Iraq for.. 9/11. Really hurt their careers
More good songs to listen to by The Chicks are…. Cowboy Take Me Away… Wide Open Spaces.. Traveling Soldier… Long Time Gone… and the song they wrote after the Bush controversy… Not Ready to Make Nice.
I've added those to the list.
It was great watching your reactions to the song. 😁
The controversy with The Dixie Chicks was when Natalie Maine - the main singer - spoke out against George Bush sr. About something. I remember how much many here in Canada were on her side over her stand as we didn't agree with him about whatever it was she spoke out against at the time. Sorry for the convoluted way I said that. haha
I remember when NYPD Blue came out & could've watched it but didn't. Now that I actually want to watch the show, I can't find it anywhere! Of course! haha
This is my first video of yours that I've seen & I subscribed for your reactions to music videos. 😁
I think at the time of this comment, Hulu has rights to all of the NYPD blue seasons.
We'll add the TBS song to our list.
Stay tuned for Not Ready to Make Nice.
@@BourbonCountryReacts Thanks. Looking forward to it
I loved sipovitz on nypd blue , this was very andy ! 😍😍
All three of them from Texas
Out of the Nashville-country fans backlash-"cancelling" of The Dixie Chicks over Natalie's statement, they rose from the ashes With A grammy for Song of the year in 2007 ( Not Ready To
make nice" from their Album of the year " Taking the long way". Other favs of mine are "Wide open spaces" & Cowboy Take me away"
Those are on the list.
You almost lost me with the country Sipowicz😂😂😂😂 If you guys don’t know the girls play all those instruments!!
I thought it looked like the guy from NYPD Blue! It's actually him?!
You should listen to carrie underwood southbound. Its a fun summer song. My give a dams busted by jo dee massina, I think yall will get a kick out of. Lucky 4 you by shedaisy is another really funny song
We'll add those to our list.
Dennis Franz was probably still on NYPD Blue when this song came out. Jane Krakowski had to have been near Ally McBeal days. Lauren Holly was Dumb and Dumber. Each of these stars were pretty big when this video came out.
Wow. Flashback city.
@@BourbonCountryReacts Exactly!
Was that zombie earl dancing behind them at 7:14-7:17? (and @ 7:42, plus 7:48, 8:03-8:05)?
Zombie Sipowitz!
Please react to "Watermelon Crawl" by Tracy Byrd.
I've added that to our list.
Really late to this one. I love the Chicks. They are enormously talented. Check out “Not ready to Make Nice”
If you wanna see them play try Sin Wagon
That one is on the list.
Added votes for those. -Dustin
Any man of mine by Shania Twain
I'd love to see yall react to that!! I think yall would get a kick outta that.
Added a vote for that.
Lol I can promise yalls ladies will get a kick outta it!! 🤣
Also "Whose bed have your boots been under" and "That don't impress me much."
