Awesome video. Just what I needed to fit my 306-X7332 and 1UP to my MKVii..Thank you for taking the time to put it together so concisely.
Another very informative video. I’ll probably won’t need a hitch but the section on pulling the rear bumper assembly was great. Much appreciated.
I installed an Ecohitch about a month ago on my 2019 R.
The two factory bolts can be used to mount the passenger side sensor bracket. They engage more than enough into the threaded insert in the body panel.
I was also able to reuse the factory foam piece with no modifications to it. If the notch in the diffuser is correctly sized the foam shouldn't be an issue with engaging the bottom fasteners.
I remember seeing your roof rack a couple of years ago and was waiting to see how long that would last before doing a hitch. Nice job on the install. The tubing trim around the cutout is a great detail! I am surprised you didn't opt for a Stealth Hitch. Yes, you still have to cut an opening, but the receiver can be popped when you're not using the rack and the cut out is nearly invisible. Either way, looks sharps. Geat videos, keep it up!
Very nice video. Now I need to figure the same for my MK8.
That came out nice. I had one of these hitches on my gti the first 3ish years I owned it. I towed a utility trailer frequently with it. Definitely a nice convenience.
And I’d be happy to make you a custom diffuser for it. Send me some dimensions if you want to go down that road 😁
Why did you go with 2” instead of the smaller option? Assuming jeep uses a 2” but wanted to verify
Exactly as you assumed. I already had a 2” bike rack from the Jeep… so it was a matter of using what I had.
Perfect video to cover everything needed on this, thank you. Do you have enough room to get a hitch pin through or does that bike rack have some other type of lock on it (I saw the key there at the end)
Great video. Thanks mate 👍🏻
Sweet video! thanks for this DIY
Do you think my 17 R could confidently pull a sport bike (417lbs) on a single rail or maybe even a small three rail motorcycle trailer? I'm having a hard time finding the weight of a three rail trailer but by the looks it's got to be maybe another 400lbs tops.
I would think so.
Pulling 417lbs is no different than having 3 people inside weighting 139lbs each. VW and Audi never bother to enter towing capacity. Is the same thing with the S3.
Lots of myths about it... people saying the haldex overheat... that's absurd since haldex engaged upon detecting wheel spin...other people claim the dsg will overheat... again absurd considering how much torque the dsg can handle when tune. I reckon base on car weight and power the golf r and the s3 could easily pull 2,500 lbs.
@@Eli07K That's a good point
Hello, so did you ever tow a trailer or look into it? The owners manual emphatically states over and over again not to do it and that you can’t get around it either by installing a weight distributing hitch and not to you a 2 inch ball mount?
Would this void the warranty for blind spot monitors or side assist?
Where have you been? Hope all is well.
Hi! I have a 2018 Golf R with the DSG and was thinking about getting the same hitch to tow a small boat (400lbs including the trailer). Would you have any reservation with doing something like that?
apparently the golf r is a no go for towing anything. It states that in the owners manual and even states specifically not to install a weight distributing hitch. I had a 4 inch receiver bolted onto back bumper a year and a half ago and today I was looking at getting a cheap trailer and started looking at what ball mount and height i needed etc and the manual states many different times this car is not for towing or putting a weight distributing hitch. I am now looking at videos and researching what i can get away or do because i only need a small trailer to go to lowes and home depot and back to home. If anyone can comment it is much appreciated
what is it that you used to lift the car? things awesome.
It’s a quickjack
How do you keep the parking/safety sensors from going off while hauling bikes?
It only alerts when I am in reverse. It somehow knows to ignore it when in drive.
You can turn off the auto brake and/ or alerts with OBD 11 or VCDS. Or, tap the park sensor button when you hop in the car.
