Hong Kong is absolutely a part of China, but the HK government is running under one country two system, HK is a special administrative region in China.

As a Hong Kong Chinese, I can just tell Shenzhen 30 years ago was more dangerous than any hi crime rate cities in the US and UK nowadays -- but it's very very safe now.
Such degree of development applies to whole China as well.
This is really a vast change that many people in the world can't imagine.

As per imagine, may be vast changes many people doesn't know. If they don't know they can't imagine. lol
Edit: I have travelled to China in 2k, So all these changes happened within these one or two decade. Is insane how much had changed. Is not the old China some people still think it was, get in with the time everyone.

@@sola4393 From my point of view, there're four turning points of China economy and society in 21st century:
      - 2001 China entered WTO. That's when China really turned to Worlds factory. This was than China cities and towns gradually become safe.
      - 2008 China followed US to QE. This produced many parvenus and real estate bobbles, but also boosted the living standard and Chinese buying power.
      - 2014-15 when Xi secured his authority. I really felt the society than switched from biasing to the riches and middle classes to more youthful. Local pop culture and blends started to boom.
      - 2019-now Starting from Trump's sanction, then pandemic, then government proactively bursted the real estate bobbles. And that's what you can see now.

@@HKWong-kw9nm Thanks for sharing. After my visit to China in 2k, i didn't really pay much attention to China's developments, basically just get on with my life. Then covid hit, people stay home more and what do people do at home? This is when I found out how much China had changed. It surprises me, it is like a complete face lift from the old to the new.
Of course it is not perfect but it is amazing, it could change in such a short span of time. It makes you wonder how much a country can change for the better when a government put their people's well being as priority.
