Super footage. Remember this from my youth. Good that in this instance it was (eventually) replaced by something better.

Absolutely wondrous stuff. I've often wondered - on the front of all the TOPS train with yellow fronts the 4VEP or 2EPB or 4SUB or whatever, always looked hand painted. And it was almost always the same script. I always imagined there was one person whose job that was!! Any of you big-brained folk out there know?

The good old Selsdon Triangle (once you go in there you VANISH!) Travelled that line many times I used to live in Croydon (before it became more dangerous than Afganistan!)

I used to cross that bridge at 03:51 on the way home from school. Usually just in time to see a southbound 2 car train arriving at Selsdon station.

Interesting old footage. I remember the 5753 was a regular train on the West Croydon to Wimbledon line. We lived at Waddon Marsh. I’m no trainspotter but It’s amazing how the numbers stick in your mind after seeing the trains go past for so many years.

Great recording of railway history, especially to see the old Sanderstead station and all the original signalling along the lines. Much sadness in watching though. That's progress I guess. I used to travel to London regularly from Upper Warlingham and used to wonder as I passed through Sanderstead about the closed line to Woodside and what it was like. Now I know, thank you. Have to also say, I miss greatly the old DMU's. Can't stand the modern replacements.

I remember seeing the station entrance sign at Bingham Road for sale at Collector's Corner - I wonder who bought it? I also remember the gas lights at Selsdon and he sequence of detonators on that last train So long ago...

Today the section from Elmers End to Addiscombe is part of the Croydon Tramlink which opened in 2000, the Addiscombe BR branch closed in 1997 to make way for the trams

Enjoyed walking the abandoned track bed in the late 80s with my girlfriend. Part of it is now used by Tramlink.
