I miss the 80s! Seemed like everybody got along and music always brought us all together! I remember my older sisters playing Rick James while cleaning the house on Saturdays! Good times! There will never be another!
This song is fascinating when you really put your ear to it. The rhythm carries the melody throughout the entire song. Yet it's never repetitive or overbearing. There's a lot going on within the instrumentation as well as the vocal performances in every section of the RICK JAMES smash hit song. No part is exactly the same. Everything in this song just seems to totally click. Great composition and recording. It's a masterpiece of our rich BLACK music culture
It's a trait I picked up on when I started listening to some Rick James more seriously. His music is so catchy on a superficial level, but if you're really sitting there listening, you pick up on so much little detail and nuance. Truly a musical genius.
Yes. His genius is/was DIVINE-of our grand creator. HE NEVER had to mess with LUCI-I know he knows this now. And when the EARTH is cleaned up, like JC cleaned up HEAVEN, I just know we will see his genius again.

Just because someone used a sample from music someone actually composed, doesn't mean its rap. And to answer your question, early rappers used alot of funk, disco and funk pseudo-rock as samples in their beats. This particular song was used in MC Hammer's "Can't touch this" I believe. Same thing with Biggie smalls, he used a lot of 70's funk in his samples. "Hypnotize" is a perfect example
I loved this tune, seriously funky. Too bad the public wanted another tune like 'Superfreak'. Rick James was seriously underrated as a singer/songwriter/performer. To me, he was the bridge between the P-Funk era and the Prince era....
I'm loving Rick James music. I saw his interview and he said Prince use to open for him on tour. I can see where Prince got some of his moves from. He might not admit it but I see Rick James influence in him also. He might have learned a lot from being around Rick James. Rest in peace Rick James and Teena Marie. Miss you both a lot. Glad both your music lives on.

Completely agree!
Agreed! Also check out Freaky Behavior by The Barkays. It definitely has a Rick James vibe to it
This song seem like it's Super Freak part 2.
I agree the beat is pretty much the same
Superfreak 2.0, I dig it.
This jam was supposed to be the follow up to super freak
Radio didn’t push it that well but it is one of Rick’s funkiest piece
Rick is so underated..this song is the shiite. 2019
this is at least 18 times better than super freak!
Furst time hearing and i played it for 15mins
I feel like the musical elements are too similar to super freak to immediately follow up that smash hit with this song
This song is way better than superfreak

me too.....sad how everything ended up
He was everything back in the day. Incredible talent and really dismissed. The fans know him better than the critics.
Oh yeah. From 1982. He was at his best here. True Pure unadulterated Funk. R.I.P. Brother James.
The year is 23 and I'm still vibing to the Greats. Thank you God.
