The greatest Requiem in my experience. I sang many of them at the MET with Levine in the 1980s and 1990s. This complete Requiem performanceis a revelation...so intense, moving and free.
He would never again sing the Verdi Requiem as well as this. Gorgeous and tasteful, especially given Bernstein's expansive (and moving) tempi, rubato and ritardandi.
@@robertmanno5749 I know someone who knew him since his first hours on stage. - Domingo was already married in 1957.( you can read it even on wikipedia ) At 16 ?- Making himself younger was probably not even his idea.- it was probably the Met or Vienna to sell him particularly very young, although he was already in his mid-30s. The whole business has been mendacious for decades.
Plácido Domingo came on for Franco Corelli almost at the last minute. A pity because there was not a testimony of filmed quality of the famous Italian tenor.
I adore Corelli but it would have been a mismatch to have him sing this Requiem, especially with Bernstein's extraordinarily expansive (and moving) tempi. Domingo sings beautifully and with great taste. It's the best Ingemisco I've ever heard him do, and especially with that broad tempi (along with rubato and ritardandi) that Bernstein has him negotiate. In the 1980s and early 1990s I sang many Requiems with Domingo at the MET, in Japan and on the MET Domestic Tour (all with Levine). During those years he always had trouble in the Requiem often having to go into pure falsetto. Nonetheless I admired him greatly as a tenor. Would that he had retired as a tenor and left it at that.
A dream cast of singers and Bernstein at his best. Doubt if this could be matched today. The sound is deadful, but it;s really good in the Libera Me upload from the same performance?
Where is the stereo?, oh come on , I have this DVD and of course is wonderfull in the hands of Bernstein and the great Placido Domingo , What yiou can expect! only to be in the heaven. Unfortunately the audio has some white noise but it does not care, even so, it is Magnificent . I recomend you the Karajan version as well Marcelo uzcátegui

Great! Thank you!
Para mi' una de las mejores interpretaciones de esta Obra Monumental. Sentimiento y drama, es lo que nos transfiere el Maestro Bernstein.!!.-
Maravilloso, gracias por la publicación es todo un regalo que nos has hecho
they looked so sad and formal walking to their places
Wow...Domingo is only 29 here. amazing.

he is 34- he was born in 1936. 1941 is not correct.

Bernstein is awesome

@@robertmanno5749 I agree, it is Plácido's best Requiem. About the other, we will never know.
Meraviglioso, che carisma!

Voices like Martina Arroyo...extremely hard to find these days. But tons of lyric voices, which sing Verdi or Wagner- sad.

l'acustica nelle chiese è sempre la più calda e reale nella timbrica e nella propagazione del suono.
Fine, but where is the Sanctus. It should be at the end of 7 or the beginning of 8, but I can't find it.
You can find the entire performance elsewhere on RUclips.
What happened to Sanctus and Agnus Dei? Deleted?
