Onore a te, Giuseppe Verdi.

The fugue beginning at 1:20:09 must be one of the most surprising, and yet beautiful moments in the piece. It's an incredible subject, and developed pretty aggressively, with stretti almost immediately after the four-part statement. It's a beautiful moment, and climactic in just the right way before the quiet ending. It must stand alongside Liszt's Dante Symphony as one of the best integrations of fugue in a Romantic orchestral work.

This orchestra is outstanding, I am so grateful for the many performances they are making available.
This is a rather "operatic" reading, but then, that is the nature of Verdi's version of the Requiem. Ms Urmana stands out in a fantastic performance (as usual for her), but not to diminish the other excellent soloists. Perhaps the choir could have been larger......? A very enjoyable performance.

Apaixonei-me na hora.

The fact that Ms. Urmana takes the mezzo-sopran instead the soprano is baffling to me. I know sometimes she takes a role of a lower voice in operas but I've heard her with Bychkov performing this piece and it was sublime. Her voice has a smoother tone, better breathing control, she doesn't struggle during the long phrases and her "perdendosi lift" to pianissimo at 01:19:38 is the most ethereal. Not heard since the great Caballe. Her voice has got heft to it and of course, her final high C at the climax Libera Me explodes like a nuclear bomb. As I was listening to this, I was like "Urmana is literally right there! Let her sing it."

The funeral ceremony will only be that all those who want to go see and listen to the Requiem feel free to do so, with that I will get to heaven. In this moment I remember the Funeral fron Lady Dee with a part of the requiem.

Fantastica esecuzione. Fantastici solisti, coro, orchestra, maestro .

This superb Chorus is one of the finest I've heard. Beautiful singing throughout, especially in the very quiet sections of the piece. Lovely. Extremely clear diction. I can see why they have the superb reputation they have. Very well-deserved and I hope that the hr-Sinfonieorchester invites them to perform more often with them. Also enjoyed the bass soloist. And I always enjoy the outstandingly superb hr-Sinfonieorchester and watching them perform, and Andrés Orozco-Estrada is excellent at working with a Chorus (there are some conductors who are not). Enjoyed seeing the Cimbassina(?) at the end of the brass section. Danke.

I agree about the choir, but I feel the mikeing of the choir could have been better in the pianissimo portions. I have sung this as a member of the choir under the baton of Seiji Ozawa and believe me it was a peak experience, and this performance is the closest I've come since.

This is a beautiful performance. It is well balanced and the sonics are outstanding. The principals are in extremely good voice and sing with proper emotional involvement. I particularly like how Sim uses his beautifully modulated lyric bass with outstanding interpretive intelligence. Grimaldi soars with opulent and brilliant top tones. Pirgu and Urmana shine.Orozco-Estrada's conducting is exemplary.
