The Caledonian Sleeper: A 5 Star Hotel on Rails.
I do like the Caledonian Sleeper as their trains are so modern and very clean and comfortable.
Thanks for a very comprehensive review. I am a huge fan of the Caledonian Sleeper; I would thoroughly recommend the Highlander in to Fort William for a longer journey and some of the most stunning views from any sleeper train in the world.
I definitely want to take the Caledonian again, but sometime in the summer with longer days so I can really appreciate the gorgeous landscapes.
Dunsmuir late at night, on the southbound Coast Starlight….
Woke up from sleeping, and looked right out of the Roomette window. There it *Was!*
That trip made me a train-nut.
I'm doing the night sleeper to fort William in August next year
Glad you did a trip report on this train and I appreciate that you have info and get shots of the stations at both ends of the trip! Too bad that breakfast seemed worst than you get on Amtrak. At least Amtrak has brewed coffee.
I'm so glad you enjoyed! The breakfast really was something of an afterthought, and in all honesty, it may have been just that. My bet is that the original services did not offer breakfast because of the early arrivals, but they decided to add it after the fact, likely after passenger complains/suggestions.
I rode the Caledonian sleeper in May, 2018 and - other than the scenery - it was nothing to write home about. Looks like things have improved with the introduction of new equipment. Thanks for the review.
Glad you enjoyed! I have to say the new coaches are a welcome change from their past fleet.
Keep up the fantastic work
Thanks for the kind words! It's comments like these that really keep me going.
Good that these have electrical outlets. (Needed when you have breathing problems you were mostly born with.)
Great video bro. Love it and really looking forward to my travels in 12 days not he Cally.
Thanks for the support, and safe travels!
Nice video
Why is this so much better than amtrak lol
I'm still to try this new Caley Sleeper, but it certainly is far more pricey than the old one, which was operated by ScotRail and had the delightfully quaint Mark 2 restaurant. this one, whilst plush is just too expensive and that breakfast is just stodgy. Better to head up to Rabbie's Cafe Bar (from which there are a multitude of tours on their minibuses; the 'local's' cafe- Snax Cafe; or the upmarket Burr & Co. just off St. Andrews Sq. Also lots of chain restaurants next door in the Waverley Market (McD's, Greggs etc).
I recommend the Deerstalker (Fort William Highlander), but do it in summer, if London bound best to do on a Sunday evening, as the train departs earlier.
A 5-star hotel on rails would never serve a mediocre breakfast bag with instant coffee. I would definitely complain to management.
The Window disappointed me. Amtrak does Windows right.
At first I thought he was saying Houston.
Haha yeah, it's a confusing one!
are there any junkies in euston station?
Aberdeen. That's near Croydon right? ;o)
No it isn't , they're around 571 miles apart !
Could you tell me how much did you pay?
I believe it was £210.00 for the night.
@@LonestarTrips ...that's half the price of a roomette on a 1-night Amtrak journey!
Unlike most of your previous videos, this one is blurry and lacks definition and sharpness.
Not sure what could be causing that, as I exported the video in 4K at 120 Mbps. I think it probably has to do with the low-light filming conditions and the use of the wide angle lens, both of which introduce noise to the footage.
Nah, there is no 5-star sleeper train in the UK and their first class is pretty mediocre and basic. If you want to see 5-star sleeper train, the Japanese sleeper train is way nicer and more luxurious. UK should really up their game for their business and first class train.
Nice video
