one of the many reasons why I love watching your vids after a long day of work, is because, you talk to us like we're friends. Caretakers talent would not be able to copy a token from Urabrask's Forge until after combat since you can only level up as a sorcery. The token would then just get sacrificed at the end of your turn, so a Forge token is probably not the best target.
You don't sac the copy it stays so it's a great target.
@@Fattyb00batty Oh, you are right. The only abilities the token has are trample and haste.
I called caretakers being a fabulous card in spoiler season. If temporary lockdown wasn’t a necessary evil I think mono white control would honestly still be around using skrelv’s hive as basically a phyrexian area in white with talent in play. Just keep blowing up the board with 4 mana creature wraths and accumulate hives, elspeths, case of the uneaten feasts and virtue of loyalty’s. In a slower meta, but forge is great and it being three mana is the real reason this deck succeeds. I was gonna build a grixis control deck using forge and as many cheap wraths as possible like brotherhoods end and ill-timed explosions but this seems so much more streamlined and more consistent that using barbed servitor as repeated card draw and burn.
It’s really nice to see wizards have finally figured out white card draw as, a surplus of resources from collaborating represented in caretakers talent. It’s a great time to worship the sun.
This is the first standard that has actually felt new in like two years for me.
First rotation in 2 years and that’s not a coincidence.

Carrot Cake is slept on. It's like an "Ichor Wellspring" or "Mycosynth Wellspring," except instead of card draw or land ramp, it poops out creatures, plus it has the ability to sac ITSELF without needing another card to make both triggers happen, plus the 3 life is just icing on the cake, wordplay intended.
Caretakers talent is floating around in multiple standard decks on the ladder. It’s possibly the most cracked card from BLB.
I like how this feels like a "10 Random Magic Cards" video but instead it's a bunch of 'random' decks. (I say random simply cuz standard is so open and varied now. It's really nice.)

@@Arvensa I had my best finish at a big tournament with that deck. Up until a few years ago, I kept trying to recreate the deck on arena in standard as best I could.

Haughty Jinn mono blue has done really well. A small tweeks aside it beats aggro and all of the midrange stuff. I'm around 85% with my current build
I'm currently experimenting with selesnya tokens with Tribute to the World Tree, Nissa, the three mana ramp that gives you two options out of three (often a land and a token) and some other stuff. You got the King the. 8th you can sacrifice to save your tokens when you throw a sweeper too. It's quite brutal.

Been seeing a lot of that boros mid range. Really interesting/aggravating that they use sweeps.
This deck should run the land from phyrexia that comes with some oil counters on it. Easy way to pump the forge. The best ive got it to work was in an izzet proliferate deck.
With rotation I've been looking at finding a new pet deck and I've been experimenting with boros with High Noon and Urabrask Forge, and it's not bad but it's not quite there. That boros midrange list does feature a number of cards I've been considering so I think I'm gonna have to give that a go. Thanks for bringing that up!
I played against a Boros control deck a few days ago.
How did it go. A few days ago, I bought a bunch of LotR packs and ended up cracking The One Ring, Orcish Bowmasters and Delighted Halfling, so I'm pretty happy.
This deck is going to be excited for Llanowar Elves.

By the start of my turn 3 they had a 6/6 trample, a 5/5 trample, a 4/4 trample and three 1/1’s. While I have 2 tapped mana and a single 2/2.
I don't think that was valley questcaller.

Seeing an interesting deck like this and then realizing that this deck 9/10 times just wins because it resolves a sunfall is such a bummer. Were at the point where we literally put antisynergistic boardwipes into creature decks because of how broken it is. This isnt a token deck. This is a sunfall deck. And that sucks.
The only thing broken right now are the mindless throw up your hand red aggro and discard decks.
Really enjoying the heaped harvest deck.

Boros Midrange(tokens) is cool, but Dev did you know you can play Ohrzov Midrange tokens and build your own impact tremors with just Case of the uneaten feast and Starscape cleric? I think it’s so much fun it’s worth a try

FYI u can copy sunfall token and have a 2/2 if u have a leveled up caretaker. It’s has won me games .
The environment in standard MTG Arena nowadays includes a lot of Monored aggro and Monoblack discard. Otherwise, it looks like a healthy balanced Standard.

Don't mean to be 'that' guy but you can't copy a Forge token with the Talent before combat and swing, Talents level up at sorcery speed 😘✌️
you can't copy urabrask tokens. You level up at sorc speed and the forge only pops the token out during combat. Sadge, but the deck is still super powerful obviously
Urabrask’s Forge sacrifices the token at the beginning of the next end step, so you can level up in the second main phase to get your token copy

I really hate when people make up numbers and say shit like "win passively" in what world can any deck not do anything and still win or did you just hear that phrase and thought you would sound smart saying it?

@@matthewmarshall5234going up against board wipes and counter spells all match is not fun, nor is it interesting or good for the game. It’s a degenerate play style reserved only for the most insufferable magic players.
@@SanguineYoru without board wipes aggro decks would just be the norm which would give whoever is one the play an even higher advantage. Counters are feel bad moments, but that's what cavern of souls and sideboards are for. This is bo3 magic, where skill and knowledge are not just involved, but crucial to winning.
Played against it tonight for the first time. Felt very strong in the meta. Discard probably wrecks it I would assume....but nevertheless it felt very powerful.

Outside of Forge the Boros deck doesn't have a strong way to win. If you run a fair amount of artifact removal then this deck shouldn't be that big of an issue.
Not true at all, leveled up Talent and Virtue both size up your tokens. 5 lands that create tokens.
@La_Lente_Oscura so artifact AND enchantment removal. I'm not saying it's a bad deck I'm just suggesting that if more decks had ways to deal with those cards in the main then it wouldn't be such a powerhouse to play against from the get go.
@@jakynth I mean yes if everyone preboarded for almost any deck then that deck wouldn’t do well. Serra post board also means you need to exile those engines. It’s not unbeatable of course.
@@La_Lente_Oscura What used to be sideboard pieces are so strong in modern magic. I mean I run Tranquil Frillback, Scrapshooter, and Tear Asunder all in my mainboard. Those are all strong enough cards to not have to sit in the sb just waiting for the right deck to pop up. But yeah I get what you are saying.
Why did it win with a worse record than second place?
I’d expect that a head to head match determined the final order.
Maybe they did Swiss until they had a top 8 or 4 and then had an elimination some bracket for the championship. Or potentially the last round of Swiss was treated as a championship match for the top board.

"This card feels like a commander card" is imo overused. Kinda like a cop out. If Its not specificly banned in commander than it's probably a card you could play in a commander deck.
Technically you can copy a incubate token, transform it and it not die if you already have another caretaker's class leveled up to level 3 before making it a creature. Just wanted you to know that.
That's a lot of cards. If they are not banned, surprisingly they can be used in commander. Who would have thought

Yeah my deck eats this deck I played against it in bo3 many times last few days. I play sultai control. The card draw is cute but it actually hurts them because I play jace the miller. The deck is good but its still a creature deck. Nothing deadly coverup and jetsam cant humiliate 😂

Are you reffering to the boros token deck? The one with 21 cards main deck that makes or copy tokens, 26 if your counting lands that make tokens. Yeah totally not a token deck...
