I am a 53 years old white English guy and everytime I watch/listen to this I cry. Look at Dr King's eyes and face, that's not acting, pretence or just speaking for effect, it's raw emotion and total sincerity. I believe he knew his work was done and that God wanted him to ascend, when he says God has taken him to the mountain top to see the promised land he was speaking truthfully. And he knew why God had done that, to let him see that his work had helped his people to get there but that he wouldn't see it in this world. He was conflicted, he knew his time was ending and accepted it but was also saddened. Indescribably powerful and moving. The world desperately needs people like Dr King today.

I wish the young black youth today in America would look at this man, this prophetic speech that he gave before his life was taken by a coward and a theif and embrace the message to it's fullest while continuing to keep the struggle alive. MLK devoted his life to fighting the system that kept us oppressed and in subhuman conditions, let us not forget him and how far we've come and how much further we must go to fulfill his dream. In the story of Moses, he is unable to enter into the land promised to his people by God. In the story, God leads Moses up to the top of a mountain that overlooks this promised land so he could look over and see it in the distance. Immediately following it says that Moses died and buried there. King likens himself to Moses in this sermon, having looked over the mountain top and seeing in the distance the land promised to his people, and then is murdered the next day. Regardless of your personal beliefs, there truly is something divine about this parallel that is undeniable.
When He Said " I've Looked Over , And I've Seen The Promised Land " , One Could Not Help but to think that God Had Given Him a Preview Glimpse of Heaven , and That Soon He Would Be Going There !!!.....
I truly do believe that he was a 20th century prophet! I would say the promise land is where us on earth need to be and the mountain top is heavens that he was able to see before his assassination.
On this day, we should all be thankful for the blessing we share, to have had such strong, humble, and selfless leaders provide for and show us the way as this great man, MLK. This man was simply a prophet, a saint sent for humanity. A great, sincere man who did his best to improve the state of the "black" man n woman in America and across the world coz his movement contributed greatly to the struggle for independence in most Afrikan countries including mine Kenya 🇰🇪
The rhythm and prosody of his speech. The dynamic range. That vocal crunch at “mine eyes have seen the glory”. MLK JR was the perfect orator, a Moses-like figure and he knew it. Destined for a Moses-like fate.
" I'm not concerned about that mountain"✊ Despite critic and ears that do not listen " entirely" or eyes that see " only one way". He calls everyone his brother or sister. He does not hate " all " of any category due to some that chose hate! Emphasize that today in your teachings. Be careful you do not teach to hate. The things we impress upon during influencial opportunities...can make a wave. Let us make a wave of hope for those who cling on our words❣ " My eyes have seen the glory of the promiseland" still so incredibly profound... because it was his last speech. God thank you for all the glimpses of instruments ...gone before us ...and here still. We pray all pause .. to take a moment to embrace the messages ~Never Forget The Might of Spirit
Also, don't be offended when the children you've neglected to rear and/or give the time of day that regardless of your clearly lacking conscience, physically made and are aware of their existence, therefore have a responsibility to be the parent, to the child. This is not optional. When those statistically scary numbers of children who were neglected of a father figure, later make generalizing statements that they "hate" men, perhaps question what caused them to feel that way instead of becoming the victim in a situation where you shirked your responsibilities, and have caused lifelong attachment and relationship issues with your own children, who have had no experience with a loving present father figure. Dr. King from all I've seen and heard was an absolutely amazing father to his children, be like him. We know who's who. Parenthood is an obligation, and one you will wish you had met with joy and strove only to excell at, if one is to ever be in midst of the promised Land with him. Edit: I realize the username is a female name, but I also realize that the trend of jokingly saying we hate men also became another's personal attack and persecution complex, despite it basically being directed at our experiences with males, specifically our deadbeat father's, and the feeling of being unloved and unwanted, by them, is impressively taken personally by completely childless, and wonderful Men who don't have any comprehension of nuance. It's crazy we said that but we're also here in the comment section of a Dr King video discussing how much we love him, too. It's almost as if things are actually complex and no situation is ever Black or White. Fairly certain Dr. King would be most disapproving of deadbeat fathers, for what it's worth.

Its almost like he knew deep down he was leaving this earth with the way he used his words, it gives me chills everytime I think about it... Always wonder what were those last words he mumbled as he walked away from the mic... it haunts me.
Look what we as a people have become. I’m sure that despite where we are today especially our young people, so vain , so entitled, so focused on getting likes and shared from their post , even if Dr King had envisioned this , he still would have went on for the sake of us that realize why GOD creates us and what our true purpose in life is
My uncle was in Memphis with my Papa and Nana on this day and the day after. He had cystic fibrosis and was getting treated for it in a Memphis hospital. King likens himself to Moses in this sermon, having looked over the mountain top and seeing in the distance the land promised to his people, and then is murdered the next day. Regardless of your personal beliefs, there truly is something divine about this parallel that is undeniable.
I was a senior in high school. MLK’s speech still brings tears to my eyes. What a great man!
@@justinward3965 Great Insight 👍!!!.....I Concur 100% !!!....
On this day, we should all be thankful for the blessing we share, to have had such strong, humble, and selfless leaders provide for and show us the way as this great man, MLK. I pray that our country and her people may be graced with such capable men an women to lead us through the trials and challenges we face today.
God bless MLK
He Was Full Of Wonderful Grace And Faith As He Said Those Last Words And Turned And Walked Away He Brought So Much Peace And Understanding With Each Other And He Will Never Be Forgotten In The Beautiful United States Of America And Around The World Too.
I cried so deeply listening to this speech, my heart opening like a flower. God bless MLK and all of you. 🙏🏻
Greatness is humble,he was inspiring and loved. he was brave, especially at this time of our country. I thank God for Martin Luther King.
You can tell in his eyes that he knew something was about to happen. What a tragic loss for humanity but what a gain for the Kingdom of Heaven. May he and his purpose on this Earth never be forgotten.
This is giving me chills.😌
This man was simply a prophet, a saint sent for humanity. A great, sincere man who did his best to improve the state of the "black" man n woman in America and across the world coz his movement contributed greatly to the struggle for independence in most Afrikan countries including mine Kenya 🇰🇪
Happy Birthday Dr.King Rest In Peace Thank you for everything
R. I. P Dr Martin Luther King Jr! 😢❤️🇺🇸
🐐 thank you for everything you done for our people!!!
The rhythm and prosody of his speech. The dynamic range. That vocal crunch at “mine eyes have seen the glory”. MLK JR was the perfect orator, a Moses-like figure and he knew it. Destined for a Moses-like fate.
Im a brown guy watching this and it made me cry so much
He’s in HEAVEN WITH HONORS ❤🙏☮️
“I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the Promised Land!!!”
🥹✊🏿🥀🙏🏿❤️🩹🌅
RIP KING WE LOVE YOU❤
" I'm not concerned about that mountain"✊
Despite critic and ears that do not listen " entirely" or eyes that see " only one way".
He calls everyone his brother or sister.
He does not hate " all " of any category due to some that chose hate!
Emphasize that today in your teachings.
Be careful you do not teach to hate.
The things we impress upon during influencial opportunities...can make a wave.
Let us make a wave of hope for those who cling on our words❣
" My eyes have seen the glory of the promiseland" still so incredibly profound...
because it was his last speech.
God thank you for all the glimpses of instruments ...gone before us ...and here still.
We pray all pause .. to take a moment to embrace the messages
~Never Forget The Might of Spirit
Many people came to this world and went away, they just survived life, but people like him lived it. Leaders are born everyday just but those who rise up are one of a million
i deflate & feel it every time i see the look on his face & the way he says, "But it really doesn't matter with me now"
& "I might not get there with you"
that's selfless...& you can tell he knows his time was up
Never tired of listening to his speeches. Rest in power King
God don’t make no mistakes ❤❤❤
What a speaker ! He knew how to deliver a speech that would live on, even after his death. His timing, pausing, then an emotionally charged delivery, he stops and leaves the stage - that's the way to do it !
You Will Never Be The forgotten!!! We Love You, Dr Martin Luther King Jr.!!! 🕊️❤
I Thank God for the day Martin Luther King 👑 was born I love him & miss him
This is ia a touching speech thanks Dr Martin Luther King
THIS was his last speech? THIS was his last public address? Men like this are the bulwark against the darkness, a mercy in this cursed world.
This message is most important in this very moment.
So very sincere, so human. 1.37 - 40 mins gives me a shiver. It’s so interesting to watch this as an older man. Turn your brightness up to full and watch this is dark room. Look at those eyes of sincerity.
Martin Luther King was ill at this time. He was running a fever. When he heard a crowd was waiting to hear him speak,he made his way to them. Notice how he collapses in his chair at the end. Happy birthday MLK. One of the greatest men who ever lived.
In High School we had to give a speech on who we considered a hero- family members excluded- I picked MLK I was 9 years old when he was assassinated and I am white I felt he was fighting for all of us for that he gave up his life never forget April 4 1968🙏🏼🇺🇸
You live in millions hearts and never died.. your ideas 💡 of freedom never die.. true hero
This speech brings tears to my eyes and chills down my spine. Thank you Dr. King for the ultimate sacrifice. All people of color owe you a debt of gratitude!
I love Dr. KING. HE REALLY IS my main inspiration, right there with our messiah.
I wish public figures would quote the Bible like this now
uknow who atheist
No one care about the White mans bible not any more.
Why?
MLK was too good for this evil world. May his soul rest in heaven😇🙏🏾❤️
53 years later, gone but certainly not forgotten.
Moses and Dr king 2ghtr in Heaven what a Day 💕💓💖
Praise Jesus 🙏🕊🕊🙏
Its almost like he knew deep down he was leaving this earth with the way he used his words, it gives me chills everytime I think about it... Always wonder what were those last words he mumbled as he walked away from the mic... it haunts me.
Look what we as a people have become. I’m sure that despite where we are today especially our young people, so vain , so entitled, so focused on getting likes and shared from their post , even if Dr King had envisioned this , he still would have went on for the sake of us that realize why GOD creates us and what our true purpose in life is
His voice needs to be heard again, we need him here again, to stop the violence, and to advocate for change.
This makes me tear up every time
We need him back
Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day! R.I.P 🙏🏾
I never thought that speech was so short
Here I am on MLK day 2021 watching this.
Brought tears to my eyes
Same here Brother 💙
My uncle was in Memphis with my Papa and Nana on this day and the day after. He had cystic fibrosis and was getting treated for it in a Memphis hospital. My grandparents were in the hospital when riots began and were watching from the rooms that were high above Memphis. My uncle later died at the age of 13.
One of the most moving speeches ever made...God bless forever this hero of peace and brotherhood who beckoned all humanity to reach higher.
❤💕....Dr. King you live on...your works and your words.....THANK YOU
R.i.p king .. please watch over us. We are in bad times my friend
