  • The Streacom SG10 is a passively cooled case that can handle up to 600W of thermal dissipation and it is absolutely incredible.

    Honestly the $1000 price sounds not much more expensive than a high end custom loop, between a cpu and gpu block, radiators, fittings, tubing, fans, pump/res, and a case, I’d say this actually seems pretty reasonable. Plus the huge added benefits of no water to flush / pumps / fans to fail! I say this as someone who has invested near $1000 into a custom loop.

      Problem with water cooling is that it still makes noise and I doubt that GPU will be at 60 full load like this.

      @@helloukw Agreed it definitely makes noise, though 60 at full load is very doable! I have an EVGA RTX 3080 ftw3 10g, and even overclocked it never goes above 65, if you leave at stock or undervolt it, it stays below 60 under a full load easily, though I do both a 360mm and 420mm rad in my loop.

      @@helloukw fan noise entirely depends on your setup, I have 7 Arctic P12's in my case/loop that are dead silent at 55%.. gpu (3080 TI) never goes above 55c under full load

      @@helloukw I have 140mm, 280mm, and 240mm rads, and D5 pump. At overclocked, full load running 5800x3d and 3080ti, it is complete silent from 3 feet. But, the total cost of waterblocks, radiators, pump, fittings, and case is about 1k. So, this solution is better. But, it can only do 600W and a 5090 will probably eat 600W all by itself. May need a couple slow fans on top.

    Oh, a 4 pack of those gauges for 100 bucks? That's a lot better than I thought it would be. And once the modders get their hands on things, they'll make sure they're usable in all sorts of ways. Love it.

      this is kind of old news... all sorts of e-ink small displays with widgets have already been produced, modded, etc. Unless you specifically like this bulky design, you can already buy e-ink programmable wireless display

      No they won't, they sent a message with in short : "A unique voucher will be issued and assigned to each backer which can then be used to purchase the SG10 directly from Calyos. Value: Value of the voucher will be your Kickstarter Reward Value (*) up to 579 EUR". They rip you off then 6 years later ask the double to give you the case.

      ​​ @SombreSyr What this usualy means is they vastly underestimated the price the product would cost to make, which means they cant afford to send anyone anything unless they wanna go bankrupt way before even half the backers got their stuff.
      and they likely spent most or all the money on trying to get a working product sellable for mass production without costing 5k$ a piece so they cant refund either.
      Its still their bad but we cant know if it was intentional or not.
      If they gave a voucher valued what was backed which is useable to buy something elsewhere which it sounds like to me, then it wasnt an intentional scam and they just wasnt able to figure out how to complete the kickstarter project with the money they got.

      If their prior Kickstarter performance is anything to go by you'd be lucky to get anything at all. Do not buy this. Linus did a clip from WAN show on this about why they didn't do a video on it and it comes down to one of the companies scamming backers on Kickstarter in the past. From what was said nobody recieved a single unit.

      @@E3_Kruger Streacom is selling this not the Kickstarter creator big difference. The KS overestimated the difficulty of producing the OG case design. They didn't give up so I don't think it's a scam. It's not the same case but they're giving out voucher toward this new case. That's the risk of KS. The cooling tech is real so Streacom is doing the case design Calyos is providing the cooling tech. This design is much simpler than the original.

      What about an all aluminum version for lower power levels? 300-500 watts? Reduce the design aesthetics and forget about the angling. (Or maybe just the GPU?) Also, selling "barebones" kits bundled with the stripped and heat-sinked GPU cards would greatly increase the potential market.

      It is reasonable in comparison to a custom loop (which is inherently an unreasonable flex). Compare it to air cooling though and it's no contest. High end air cooler, 60-100. Case, 80-120. Let's say you throw out the stock fans and buy expensive ones, add another 100-150. 650$ more dollars to go from a quiet build to a completely silent one. Not worth it.

      @@rogerhill2707 Unless you want completely silent! (Provided there's no coil whine in your power supply and GPU.) There are applications for that. Also, some people vastly prefer the aesthetics of a completely quiet environment, where even a quiet build would be noticed.

    2:47 "it is running at 60 C degrees" Novec 7100 engineered fluid boils at 61C so that would be my guess as to the refrigerant being used.
    3:47 "both the motherboard and GPU are at an angle" What he doesn't mention is that this is a gravity-fed, Phase-change or evaporative cooling.
    The motherboard & GPU boards are positioned at an angle such that the inlet tubes carrying refrigerant enters as a fluid into the lower entrance of each CPU & GPU cooling blocks, then the heat absorbed boils the refrigerant into a hot 60C pressurized gas (highly efficient evaporation heat exchange) out of the upper outlet flexible tubing which then flows up into the upper passive copper (or black anodized aluminum) air heat exchanger where the passive, convection air flow of the environment cools the hot gas back into a liquid (condensation) which then drops via gravity (no pump needed) back down into the cooling blocks again. It keeps cycling passively and continuously. This approach could also be done with boiling water into steam and then cooling it back into liquid but the 100C temperature is too toasty for our computers to be useful.
    By the way, if the air environment surrounding this case was hotter than 61 C temperature, the hot refrigerant gas could never condense back into a cooler liquid state and the CPU & GPU cooling blocks would begin to experience run-away conditions. No cooling!
    EDIT: Novec fluid is expensive so a cheaper option would be an alcohol variant like those used in sealed heat-pipes. It must be as the coolant loop is brazed all-metal as can be seen on the coolant blocks. The internal pressure is adjusted based on the desired boiling point.

      Yeah the good thing about this cooler is if you ever have a problem you either have to hire an HVAC tech to fix it or get all the skills and tools to do it yourself. It's a cool concept but getting into HVAC just so your PC doesn't have a little fan noise is pretty extreme.

    The full copper one looks stunning, its like a functional piece of art. I remember seeing someone have a compartment in their wall that sealed their computer, while providing filtered air, that whole system would be perfect for this case.

    Looks good, but as far as I know Calyos already scammed their customers once (Kickstarter NSG S0 - passive case) which is why in the aftermath the Monsterlabo team split up from them. Monsterlabo offers "The Beast" (400 to 600w passive cooling case) for 750€ they are lovely people and really care about their product, therefore I won't even consider Calyos unless they not only ship working high quality products but offer better performance than Monsterlabo at as similar price.

      Calyos never delivered their product, never paid their backers back or even acknowledged it! They just went silent for 6 years, now start promoting pretty much the same product and somehow nobody from the hardware community questions them...
      (Including Hardware Canucks)

      @@Ahnii It seems LTT refused to cover them because of that, apparently Calyos won't refund ppl who bought the original NSG S0, but the "solution" of Calyos is that they will give backers a voucher (of the amount of what they spent on the original Kickstater campaign) to buy this new case, so they'll have to spend like 400-500$ more to get what they backed for, more than 6y ago. That's ridiculous

    The angles are likely necessary to ensure proper refrigerant circulation: when the plate boils the refrigerant, the angle ensures bubbles will rise towards the outlet and help the natural convection along instead of potentially trying to go back up the inlet and stalling the whole thing if the bloc was horizontal. Kind of neat, though I need my PC fans' noise to bury the slight humming from my UPS.

      The angles are just just a gimmick to fill the otherwise unused space and make it look cool, as they cannot shrink the heatsink for obvious reasons. Ideally they would have tried to make it as compact, but dimensions are dictated by TDP

      @@TheTecnicamente If you have a passive evaporator and condenser combo, the only thing circulating the refrigerant around is the liquid phase sealing the inlet against vapor going back up the way it came from, the angle ensuring (most) bubbles cannot go back up that way and the liquid phase's weight providing lift to move the vapor phase.
      Putting the cards on an angle wasn't necessary though, they could have made angled evaporators to leave everything else squared off. Though this would have made the evaporator taller (as tall as it is wide for a 45 deg. angle) and required more refrigerant to flood.

      The $999 price tag is for the aluminum version. They’ll have a version with copper fins, but that’ll be even more expensive.

      A case of this quality is $200+, an AIO for the CPU is $150-200, water cooling for your GPU is $300ish.
      If you do all air cooling and use your stock GPU cooler, then yeah there's a pretty big price gap. But if you were going to do open loop water-cooling for the whole system or something you're actually looking at a similar price.
      It's not just a case, it's all of the cooling.

      I'll stick with fan noise rather than commit to needing an HVAC tech to fix my cpu/gpu cooler. I don't think people understand the complexity of dealing with HVAC, if anything goes wrong you either need a bunch of tool or have to hire an HVAC tech, both are expensive.

    Neat idea, but I feel sorry in advance for the people who get this and then get to enjoy the amazingly clear sounds of coil whine completely unobstructed by any fan noise.

    That copper edition case is next level beautiful, I hope I see that in Sci-Fi movies next year, but I will be ordering a set of those analog dials, that is happening, I do hope the lamps inside are RGB, red light at night and white during the day would be the coolest thing to add to my battle station.     I can't justify $100 for a 4 pack of those displays, but I'd definitely buy 1 for $25!
    It would be neat if you could send the needle to 0% and just use it as an e-ink display.
    Maybe you could use a button to change between tracking many different variables

    I love the copper one and you seem to be the only reporter to show the copper one as other are more focused on the cheaper one. Wish I had the money for this as I building at some point a homes server/web server and thinking of a passive beast. Anyway I am off to sell a organ or three. lol

    Really cool idea, but I can't help wondering about potential coil whine (especially from the graphics card) spoiling the party. Not much sense in completely silent cooling when there's still coil whine (I very much prefer fan whooshing to coil whine). I'd personally prefer the case to only have "intake" vents at the bottom, all other sides closed, which would at least prevent coil whine from having an open direct path to the ears.
    The price sounds reasonable (except for the copper edition, but I don't think copper heatsinks would actually improve temperatures all that much, so that edition is outside the scope of my personal interest anyway).
    Oh, and those gauges are cool too, would be nice to have a few!

      Loads of mission critical terminals have passive cooling for that reason alone. Less things to go wrong.

    I really look forward to tests and reviews on this case, I am kind of shocked that a 4080 under load in a passive cooling beast is only running at 60C! Kind of find it hard to believe lol

      i put 2 P14 for cooling my 4080 with low speed basically is 0db also keeps the gpu under 65c , so this thing is not that worth

      The magic of phase change and gravity. A liquid phase changing into gas can't exceed the temperature at which the liquid boils. Even water boiling on a stove will get no hotter than 100C no matter how much you turn up the heat.

    As someone that has a passive cooling system that can support maximum 60 TDP, this seems to be a powerhouse!
    Would love it to be a real passive cooling system. But silent/fanless is ok as well 👌 price is reasonable imo, can't wait to see it in stores!

    The fact that this is being advertised as something ''new'' is blowing my mind. The only ''wow'' thing is the formfactor. There are groups of passive-cooling people who started with simple copper shroud designs and ended up with very good results. It's good that mainstream market gets this finally, but to call this new... it's the same as discovering sliced bread in a different shop. Still a nice video.

    1k on this is not expensive if you see some pc cases for around $400 without cooling. Custom Loops can go around 1k to and you have to deal with water, which means, water damage risk.

    Now the one thing I'm curious about if you would add the fans to the case how cold will it get and I know some of you going to say this case doesn't need fans but it's more of to see can the temperatures drop even more with fans.

    Mike, at 3:52 you say mounts are at a 45 degree angle. Sure look like about 60 degrees to me. Is the display design different from the commercial product?

    It's been a while since I've heard of Calyos, drove past their site a couple times here in Belgium. Nice to see them slowly move towards consumer-grade products. Having a fully silent computer has always been a dream of mine.

      @@timwarning9326 Did a quick google and it appears the ones who backed the kickstarter will get a voucher at the value they put in for this case.
      So they'll have to cough up some more money if they still want the/a case, lowest entry was 479$ vs 999$ for this one.
      Whether that and some extras they seem to provide is gonna be worth that ~5 year wait , idk. Sorta the risk you take backing kickstarter I suppose. Not the nicest thing, but still better than what most kickstarters turn into.
      As always, the lesson here is to never pre-order an unfinished or unreleased product.

      Problem with eliminating fan noise is that coil whine becomes very noticeable, and it is arguably more annoying than the whoosh of air through fans. When I turn all the fans off on my custom loop PC and run it passive (which is fine when not under high loads) the nosiest thing is the PSU coil whine, and running the fans at low speeds (400rpm) is hardly audible anyway.

      This is Streacom using Calyos as a technology provider. Sorta like how NZXT uses Asetek in their H1. Their decision to approach this as a co branded product was a massive mistake.

    had to come here due to also loving passive cooling. even semi passive cooling, in the past I had a huge passive heat sink(even though my case did have fans) I could overclock the cpu with around 1ghz while keeping it below 40 degrees(in a room wich was in probably around 20 degrees. making some kind of convection pipe might be a great alternative for fans.

    What refrigerant gas is used in this? I'm thinking it's the same used in car AC units. If it is, it'll probably need recharged every year or so. It's also toxic to the ozone.

    I agree, $1000 sounds like HUGE underselling -- just a loop for similar capacity water cooling might be in that range, and that's not including your case! Curious as to why the copper edition will be more if it's just showing off the internals -- isn't the regular one basically a painted version of the copper?
    And the analogue displays also sound like an undersell -- I thought you were gonna say $100/piece! I'd maybe pay up to $50 each tho. Definitely excited for those! Such a cool look.

      Regular version has copper coolant channels but a painted aluminum radiator.

    The refrigerant is the majority of the cost. They can charge by the oz. instead of lb. because it is a modified special refrigerant.

    I know it kind of defeats the whole passive cooling thing, but can you imagine if you put a single fan onto the cooling block running at minimum speed? It would be interesting indeed.

      Well, just place your PC near your ac vent. That should work well without adding extra noise

    This would be a REALLY cool setup for situations where high horsepower and an absolutely SILENT noise floor is needed - or fans are impossible to maintain. I'm thinking something like a cleanroom? Maybe an anechoic chamber where testing is being done and analysis or test tweaking has to be done in the chamber itself? Any other ideas?

    I remember having a conversation I had with my friend about 5 years ago. "Fanless PC's can't happen, it doesn't make sense, we are probably an extremely long ways off from even slight changes, I don't think it will ever happen" - Friend.
    "Well, I think we are just a few years away, human innovation is incredible, and when they put their minds to it. We are already seeing ideas, and people working towards solutions to make this happen so it's only a matter of time.     $1000 for that engineering is really cheap for a passive cooling of that performance, so getting it is really great. But the real question is, why.

      There are fan brackets inside and with three Noctua 140mm running at 600RPM they can handle 800W+

      The coolant is likely to phase-change at around 60 C meaning you wouldn’t be able to get lower temperatures than that but the absolute amount of heat that can be dumped into the system gets (massively) increased.

    Definitely interested but would come down to temperatures and performance. I have an 360mm AIO on my 5800X3D, 240mm AIO on my 4090, undervolt both, set custom fan curves, set tj max at 65C for both and have a great time with cool and quiet 4K120hz gaming. If this has similar performance or maybe even better I'd definitely consider it for my next build vs a custom loop.

    I would pay $1000 for a passive case solution. A 2 to 3 K cost for the copper version would be reasonable if it could have higher heat capacity. Great video!

      Well im no engineer but im pretty sure that since copper has some +30% conductivity or whatever it was, it makes sense to me that the copper case would atleast be able to handle 700w compared to 600w aluminium.
      That might not be worth the cost but atleast that means it might be able to handle a 4090 instead of 4080 so it might make sense for some users.

    Is it 2 individual loops with 2X 300W dissipation or is it 600W shared?
    Can I use a 7800X3D at 120W paired with a 4090 450W and keep under the 600W total or will the 4090 overpower the GPU side while the CPU side almost does nothing because of the 7800X3D?

      Your power consumption of the device and the cooling watts aren't directly comparable. The heat generated by the devices is only the waste heat. If you wanted to compare, you'd have to multiply the device by its efficiency to find out how many watts of heat it is producing and then you can compare that to the cooling method.

      @@zachary3603 The difference between power used and heat produced in a pc is practically nothing.
      With the coolers mounted around 90-95% of the heat goes into the cooler, only VRM loss, RAM and SSDs are not cooled by the cooler.
      Unless powering something via USB-C, no significant power is really leaving the PC without getting turned into heat.
      Something that will make a much larger difference is thermal transfer efficiency.
      If a 7800X3D is clocked to use 200Watts it would be practically uncoolable even if the cooler can cool 300watts, because the heat can not get away from the chip efficiently enough.

      Disagree. Case by itself looks like nothing special, those 45 angle brackets and gpu plate... I dunno some steampunk but no style. Those tubes just bad. Radiator at the top is neat but thats all...
      I think it might be worth it if absolute silence is necessity, otherwise any decent case with good airflow will do the job at /5 or even /10 the price.
      I like the idea, but i think it's far from "beauty".

    Will this passive cooling work when the ambient temperature in your house is 30C or higher as it is frequently in my house in summer. I have no air conditioning.

      Ambient temp doesnt matter between different cooling solutions.
      Except in this very specific case where the liquid inside the tubes are suspected to boil at 61c according to others in the chat, which means the ambient temp cant be above 61c otherwise itll never turn from gas back into liquid to keep the loop going.
      but at 61c you shouldnt be there anyway so thats irrelevant XD

    Anyone know what the PSU is they’re using? I’ve got a fanless PSU from Seasonic that is rated at 700W, but from my experience, without any airflow it struggles to do even 500W.

    $100 for a set of FOUR of those dials seems like a steal. I'm not one who'd want it, but for such a niche product, this seems incredibly inexpensive.
    Could probably also be modded to do other things without a computer attached.

    Passive cooling in that form factor isn't worth that price to me, but $25 for one of those dials seems crazy inexpensive. I didn't even know e-paper was in use anymore. I remember when it came out there was a lot of buzz and then I never heard much about it again except for the Kindle here and there.

      E-ink is in every eBook reader like Kindles out there, and it's been used in a lot of areas like billboards. Three's even consumer color e-ink products now.

    Being waiting on this for ages. Add the passive air pump tech and we could be seeing a brand new gen of home pcs. I can see GPU manufacturers selling GPUs without fans or shrouds, but custom cooling solutions as a partnership deal with the case manufacturers. Forget DIY enthuiasts, welcome to the new Apple.     I have recycled copper and that I can tell you.
    Having a copper radiator instead of aluminium one in this case does not cost them $2000 more for materials. This amount would cost them in the neighborhood og about 400$
