Hopefully the MCU gives Cyclops the adaption he deserves. None of the movies have ever captured how essential Cyclops is to the X-Men or how great of a leader or great fighter he is.
Sometimes. Some of the major bad events in comics happened to X-Men are his fault. He can be a great leader, but he's a bitch most of the time onestly, i can't stand him

Yes, admittedly Cyclops did not leave an impression of outstanding resourcefulness and competence in the original films: His visor snatched by Toad in X1, rendering him immediately uncombattive, and being knocked out cold in less than 30 seconds by Lady Deathstrike in X2. His main purpose in those films seemed to be as a drama-foil in the Wolverine/Phoenix relationship.
So basically his optic blasts are like getting hit by a bus at the speed of light. Truly devastating when you think about it. All concussive energy.

Yea, most media tends to forget that his powers don’t conduct heat. It’s just pure concussive force. His weakest blast is the equivalent of being hit with heavy baseball bat. While his most powerful blast can hold equivalent concussive force of a small nuke.

Been a Cyclops fan for nearly forty years. Well aware, he's not been the greatest person. This being a power level conversation, not a morality one, two points, no one has seen to brought up, that are unecquivcable.
World Breaker Hulk acknowledged his cosmic level power, after Scott continually and literally, put him on his emerald posterior.
Scott has an unacknowledged secondary/latent mutation, to Intuit trigonometry. Essentially, he can kick your ass in pool, and bounce his blast of two corners and hit you in the back of the head at a glance.
He has repeatedly beaten Wolverine in a No Powers battle. Barring Logan's claws and Scott's ocular devastation, the latter has continually beaten an adamantium laced, regenerative body nearly to death, multiple times, through shear martial ability.
For young cyclops, Tye Sheridan is a really good actor, so much potential. His cyclops deserve justice.
Maybe the MCU will bring him back as a displaced variant for a Young Avengers film. There is comic precedence for a younger Cyclops existing in comics in a time travel plot, and he was a part of the Champions for a time, so maybe that can give Tye a way for a proper return.

Ty Sheridan is a good actor but neither Apocalypse or especially Dark Phoenix really did much with the Scott Summers character.
Ikr, the only reason Charles and Scott were working together in Dark Phoenix was because they both really, really care about Jean and her well being. Instead of their actual mentor-mentee relationship in the comics.
Him going toe to toe with Magneto and Beast in Dark Phoenix was pretty cool.

Something I noticed about Tye Sheridan's Cyclops is that there are moments where he looks and feels like a younger version of James Marsden's Cyclops
Marsdens Cyclops suffered from 1 thing , bad writing, he was generally just a brooding sulky character in all the movies , the script writers should have brushed up on their comics and gave him a better part, not taking anything away from Marsden as an actor I think he's fairly decent (disturbing behaviour, anchorman) he was playing the hand he was dealt in the X men series which was a pretty poor hand.
It's like they were aiming for that or something.
2:40 is my favorite Cyclops moment. He comes out of the fog, looking badass and threatening than ever.

Cyclops has a secondary power to his optic blasts, which is called “spatial awareness.” He has an uncanny sense of environmental trigonometry and can predict the precise path his beam’s ricochet will take, including subsequent ricochets. This makes him a peerless pool player and a force to be reckoned with in any environment with reflective surfaces. It also means the odds of him causing collateral damage with stray shots are virtually nil (so long as he can see where he’s shooting). I don’t think any adaptation has adequately represented this power.

2:40 is how smart Cyclops is in the comics. IIRC Scott is AS GOOD AS Captain America with on the spot trigonometry and calculating trajectories, yet they make him look like a brute just blasting anything that moves. 🤦🏽♂️

If you notice….the “boss” villain didn’t necessarily stop the beam. She tried to stop Scott from using it AT ALL at first n when it came at her, she knocked SCOTT away to disrupt the beam. Point being….even she did NOT want to get hit by the optic “punch” beams. Those things truly pack a punch 😅

He could actually hold his optic ray from firing without his visor. He's just more used to it ever since so he just never learned how and his optic ray grew uncontrolled.

Comics have millions of retcons, but the most commonly cited reason is a physical injury he got from falling out of a plane as a child. It is hypothesized that the trauma of losing his family in that same incident may also have been part of the reason. Had these things not happened, he would be able to turn the blasts on or off at will instead of them always being on.
Can we talk about how awesome 2:40 is, and how skilled he got with his powers compared at his start
I love that he gets the astonishing suit which looked great just for the costume budget to go out the window for the next film so we only get teased the outfit.

It's crazy how inconsistent it is.
Sometimes it blasts a clean hole through insanely thick steel in an instant, and other times it just pushes some bad guys a few meters back.

Henry Cavill is rumored to play Cyclops in the MCU. Hopefully, it's going to be an X Men movie where he's the primary leader. They never highlight that about him.

Interesting fun fact: Bryan Singer originally had Chris Potter aka Gambit to audition for Cyclops for the first X-Men film although Chris expressed he never wanted that role because he doesn't want to wear dark visor throughout the entire thing so he's relieved he didn't get the part.

Ty Sheridan was a badass Cyclops, we got to see the classic and grant morrison suits. I hope the mcu can bring out the bet Cyclops leader one day, we still haven't gotten that side from him.

They cast a 5'7" guy to play cyclops and a 6'3" guy to play wolverine. Jackman height didn't throw me off so much but having a little guy playing cyclops took away from the big stoic leader vibe cyclops had in the comics/cartoon.
I want Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and James McAvoy to reprise their roles for the MCU. I also want Taron Egerton to replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Millie Bobby Brown to play Kitty Pryde. For the villain in X-Men film I want Mr. Sinister and I want Gary Oldman to play him.
But for the MCU X-Men movie Tye Sheridan's Cyclops would be the hero of this movie

While I can’t stand the 2010s era X-Men I’m glad Cyclops actually got respect in the fights and atleast a story instead of just the background guy for two movies and killed off in the 3rd after 2 scenes with barley any fights or dialogue
Any version of Cyclops where his beams generate heat thus causing burning or melting because of it are fundamentally inaccurate.
Concussive energy doesn't generate heat. But it can be strong enough to completely pulverize metal so quickly it looks like the beam is slicing through.

So are his abilities heat based or concussive, it looks like heat for some but there's the bathroom part where his blast caves in the door but doesn't seem to burn it all
they are concussive, actually his eyes are portal to a dimension which is filled with these concussive energy , so he basically just channels those concussive energy to use as a weapon. Some times it's also said that he absorbs ambient Radiation like sun light , radiation and other forms of energy from his surroundings .
It's all concussive force, however it can still generate a great deal of heat due to friction.

What I don't get is, Hank gives him the crystal quartz glasses to stop his optic blasts, so how is it he can shoot optic blasts through the said crystal glasses???.

Its the reason he has to touch his visor to blast, its because he's basically controlling a shutter that widens to his control to release the blast.
So he can make precise, small beams or just release his whole vision.
