Many thanks for this video it is really appreciated, I inherited my chisel set from my late father in law. There is actually a slipstone in the set and I assumed it was not related. I am hoping to have my first spoon complete ready for valentines day.

Thanks so much for this video. I had a crappy set of starter gouges and recently bought a much better set. I am using the crappy gouges to learn how to sharpen, before attempting on my expensive set.

That sounds like a great way of doing it. Takes a bit of time to develop sharpening skills so have a go with the less important ones before having a go at the better ones.

I recently inherited a set of carving chisels and thought I would start off sharpening and restoring the 25mm gouge ut the bevel angle is around 45 degrees. Can someone advise what angle it should be for hand carving? Thanks. BTW love the work you do with your spoons.

Hi, great to hear from you and thank you for getting in touch. The angle we use ourselves is between 25 and 30 degrees. We set the angle that suits ourselves and to be honest that is a fairly subjective thing. Whatever angle you set the most important thing is to find and use the cutting angle as you carve.
We also judge our sharpening by eye as opposed to using a jig but again you can use the method that suits you best. Hope that helps. Thanks again for getting in touch and supporting our RUclips channel. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍

@@DailovespoonsThomas Thanks for your prompt answer, much appreciated. I think I will try 25 degrees for starters and see how it goes. Will let you know how it goes!

Sounds like a good plan. Start at 25 and see if it works for you, if not try a different angle. As I mentioned it is quite a subjective thing but you get used to finding that cutting angle wherever it has been set.
Hope you enjoy woodcarving, it's a lovely process and a lovely material to work with. Thanks again for getting in touch. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop. 👍👍

Hello again, was wondering if you heard or tried gouges from Sculpture House USA, I understand probably can't get any there but I don't see any one else using them and they on sale at the moment... Thank you☺️

Hi, great to hear from you. Not a maker that I am familiar with unfortunately. I work with vintage chisels and gouges made here in the UK primary.
Sorry I can't give you any more information. Thanks again for supporting our RUclips channel. All the best from us all. 👍👍

    1. Whetstone grid number?
    2. Is it possible to use a dremel ot some flexshaft motor with some kit for the sharpening?

Hi, great to hear from you. I have attached a link below for the Tormek website so you can see all of the technical specifications.
      tormek.com/en/knowledge/the-tormek-way-of-sharpening/sharpening-with-diamond-grinding-wheels
In answer to your second question, it is indeed possible to sharpen using this method but the Tormek will take some beating when it comes to the quality of finish. Hence the large price tag associated with buying a new Tormek.
