  • We have a very cool clip from a girl who trained in Shaolin kungfu when she was much younger trying to restart or rediscover her martial arts side again many years later as an adult. Let's watch how she does in a sparring match against Sanda legend Yao Honggang, and then let's translate and opine on her story. Let us know what you think about her story and if you agree with what the panelists say to her.

      Shaolin Temple bullshido forms training leads to injuries. There are other videos of westerners that trained at the temple and got injured due to constantly training the bullshido forms. Modern Shaolin is bullshido created for tourism.

    Dude was definitely taking it a bit easy on her but honestly there's nothing wrong with that. As martial artists both seemed to understand that she was out there to prove something to herself and not anyone else and that makes a huge difference. So often when you have these male vs female matches it's some obnoxious "grrl power" "step aside boys" kind of nonsense and those almost always end the same way. This wasn't about ego, she was testing herself and he pushed her and gave her a good fight, one fighter to another. Mad respect across the board here.

    • @incelescapist4387
      @incelescapist4387 3 месяца назад +3

      So because she was supposedly trying to "prove something to herself" that means that he was justified in putting up a lousy fight and and embarrassing himself? Taking it easy on your opponent doesn't help the other person. If anything it inhibits their progress. And it also makes the guy look like he was to scared to fight more aggressively. If the guy was capable of easily winning he should've done so.

    Your channel has so much, and it has gotten pretty big! You are providing a great service to the CMA community IMO. As for your own martial arts training (I assume that's what you're talking about) - definitely keep at it! I'm not sure what type of stuff you were going through but I would wager that EVERY martial artist has some periods of burnout, thoughts of quitting due to injuries (or threat of future injuries), what have you...but there is always a way to adapt our training to where we are.

    I broke my wrist practicing a new throw we were learning from a Judoka in our BJJ class. It probably wasn't totally a career-ender (though it still aches now and then 15 years later,) it brought to light a lot of things that I wasn't noticing while I was in class. So many lies and manipulative practices were a constant at that school. While I took TKD there they constantly told us about special skills we'd be taught when we were higher rank, when we were older, or when we got better, and when i achieved that rank, age, and skill, i found out there was nothing. They never told us what we were missing, never took us to tournaments, never told us that what we learned in class wasn't a complete system, and when I was old enough to ask questions, they said they didn't do that anymore. They were just taking our money and teaching us nothing in the TKD class I'd been taking for 10 years, and focusing on their new BJJ class.
    Around the time I got hurt, I was working there as an assistant. The whole time they were doing the same manipulations, telling me the better I did, the better they would pay, that they'd teach me real martial arts, put me on payroll, give me my own school one day etc, just to keep me trying, meanwhile paying me $100 a week for a job that i worked at from 9 to 9, 6 days a week. I didn't have the time or money to do anything else, but if I stuck with it, I'd be a master and my own boss one day just like they told me. I got my black belt in TKD, (or "Martial Arts" because they kept adding stuff to it that by the time I got it, it wasn't TKD anymore) I was close to a blue belt in BJJ, but i found out that i couldn't rank up because my teachers were only blue belts themselves teaching us what they learned in class that morning and charging our students. When I got hurt, I had no insurance because I wasn't a full employee yet, even though I'd worked there for 3 years, my wrist healed wrong. When I tried to go back to class, they told me I couldn't stay, that I gave off a bad vibe.
    I wasted so much time there. I kept believing in them, letting them lead me in circles while they took my parents money, and when I got older, they took my labor for peanuts. I thought I was learning how to fight, how to defend myself, how to one day be a champion, or run a business. I couldn't give up, I didn't want to be a quitter. No matter how hard it got, or how my faith wavered, I had to stick with it. Breaking my wrist and getting no help from them was probably the best thing that could have happened. It sucked at the time and I hated them for a long time, but them pushing me away let me grow up. I got a much better job that fit my personality better, paid 10x as much and is much easier, I was able to move out of my mom's house and become my own person. The panelists are right. Sometimes the door to your dreams is slammed in your face, but you gotta keep walking, another door may be opening just up the street.

      @@FightCommentary Life is better. I'm still with the job that makes me happy, I have my own house, and a wife, and I definitely wouldn't have any of that if I was still stuck in that dead-end loop. I feel like I've learned more about Martial Arts and fighting in general from RUclips channels like this one than I had from my mentors at that school and I had been going there off and on throughout my life from 5 to 23. I wish I had started my martial arts journey later in life when these resources were available to point out the inconsistencies in my training instead of being lost in their indoctrination. The only thing I do regret about leaving that school is ended up gaining all the weight back that I'd lost from working there full-time for three years, lol.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  3 месяца назад +3

      Awesome to hear. Yeah, one of the reasons I started my channel was to provide some resources I wish I had when I was in my teens. If RUclips martial arts were around like they were now, I wouldn't have taken such a long break from high school to end of college. Weight gain is an interesting topic too because after I sort of went into a little dive mentally last year, I "allowed" myself to gain weight for the first time ever. I have a slight belly now. It's funny what being kind to oneself does. I am not stressed out at all about a little weight gain, and now when Asian parents or family friends call me skinny, I just show them my no longer six pack belly and they won't call me "skinny" again ;) Keep me posted on your journey and send me clips whenever you feel like something cool you stumbled on!

    Ah, this show. It was supposed to this thing where the contestants were supposed to compete for a spot on one of two fight teams each led y a coach (Fang Bian and Wang Hongxiang, respectively), who would then train them and do like a TUF type competition. Too bad it never made it to the second phase.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  3 месяца назад

      Tell me more! Why didn't the show make it to second phase?

    • @MasterZhang
      @MasterZhang 3 месяца назад +1

      @@FightCommentary so, the show is called 青春有搏击,I think I recall watching it on iqiyi? It was supposed to be this combination The Voice/Rap of China/TUF thing, you would have two fight teams, each contestant was supposed to be able to select one of five fighters (the fighters themselves were active combat sport competitors) to fight, and based on their performance they're supposed to earn their spot on a fight team. It only ever got to the part where the teams got filled and then nothing happened after.
      As for why it discontinued, I think it just wasn't planned very well and probably also lost funding in the middle of it. Some of the guests they had on there were actual newbies and amateurs, other times they had people with actual training like the girl here, and later on they also had like a few retired San Dan champs like Sang Weilin* or...this one woman whose name I don't recall, but it was funny because she picked the one female fighter out of the five to fight and she was clearly scared. Like, that's not really a formula for a compelling TUF style show, not if you're going to have noobs and amateurs compete against sport veterans.
      The existing 5 episodes is a decently entertaining way to spend a few hours, even if it's blatantly obvious that the contestants are mostly being toyed with by the competitors. Probably a decent source of content for your channel.
      *Sang Weilin is in a movie called Xanda which is about a young man from a wushu/kung fu background who goes to the city to find work and ends up embroiled in this new combat sport called "Xanda". Not the most groundbreaking film, but worth a watch. Also the first fight between him and the main antag is interesting, and to me at least, there's a sense of nostalgia there for the era when San Da was new and there wasn't this toxic antagonism between combat sports guys and traditional kung fu guys on Sinosphere internets.

    Yea sometimes the life we get is incompatible with the goals and dreams we had in the past. I personally wanted to live off of martial arts but in south america that's literally imposible unless you become a big name champion or have a bullshido school with hundreds of students willing to pay ludricous money. The former is just sealed off to me because my body tends to injure itself super easily so I can't sustain any hard training for long periods of time, and the later is just not an option.
    So yea like the guys in the show say, you have to find meaning in new things for your life, it may not be what you used to want out of it but it's absolutely posible to explore and discover new things that will be fulfilling. Life is very broad and there's thousands of activities to try and many sides and aspects to balance that will bring you happiness, wether is cultivating relationships, securing your income to do wathever you want with it, achieving a healthy work-life balance, etc.

    I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of martial arts at this point. There is no kind of job/career I would want to really do other than out of neccessity, I have a hard time forming any meaningful human relationships with anybody, all the people I considered my friends at some point moved on on their own paths and there is no special person in my life and no prospect of one appearing anywhere where I am at anytime soon. So since there isn't anywhere to go or anything to do for me anyway I might just do what I always did best and that is completely and utterly focusing on doing the things I considered worthwile - perfecting my crafts, my arts, cultivating my full potential.
    If I become successful (in the traditional way i.e. reknowned and respected for achievements) you will hear from me. If not I probably just perished somewhere alone in a gutter but at least I did so trying to reach for the sky.
