- In this video we show how to make 2 tasty recipes using bitter gourd
Bittergourd podi or Powder can be mixed with hot rice and enjoyed.
Ingredients
Bitterkoud peel 1 cup
salt to taste
Oil 1 tsp
Coriander seeds 4 tsp
Channa dal 2 tsp
Urad dal 2 tsp
Dry red chilli 6
Hing/asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Amchur powder 1 tsp
Curry leaves a handful
Groundnuts/peanuts 2 tbsp
jaggery powder 1tsp optional
Bittergourd Sabji/Fry
Bitergourd 1/2 kg
Onion 2
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Chillipowder 1tsp
Daniapowder 1tsp
Garam masala 1/2 tsp
Ghee 1tsp

Wow ! I had never heard of bittergourd podi, the usual staples at my home in Madras being molaga podi and the quintessentially Kerala powder chammandi podi. As someone who is slowly heading to Type 2 diabetes, this bittergourd podi would be a wonderful and welcome addition. Power to podis !!

I prepared the bitter gourd subzi for last night's dinner..it came out really well..thank you ma'am..I too made it in a cast iron pan..just one Q ma'am..what's the ground rule while using tamarind or any sour stuff in a cast iron pan?..I'm never sure if it's ok to cook sour stuff in a cast iron pan..I immediately transferred it to a serving bowl after it was done..

While doing sabji
We first fry karela slices in little oil.
When they are half cooked we add onion slices as you did.
We add green chilli pieces
When all things fried well at the end we add grated fresh coconut to it.
This is how maharashtrians do this sabji.
