hands up everyone who has just breathed a huge sigh of relief, Mark you have made the right decision for this stage in your life and Yoshi will be so pleased he gets to stay with the man who saved him
Congrats Mate. That project was far beyond your depth. You will certainly find the tailor made boat for you and your doggie in more comfortable environment. Cheers
Hi Mark,so glad you did not buy that boat ⛵ it would have been a nightmare honest we all know that you liked it ,, anyway get in touch with Sailing Melody at least you have a decent shell to start with, but I think there's enough for you to make it into what you want at least you know that it will not let you down,,in the end it's your call.keep Yoshi he will upset if you let him go. Best of luck.
@@michaeldavies9533 Andy said on their last episode that they would love to sell Melody to Mark at a very reduced price, Andy has done a huge amount of work so Mark would be so far ahead.
You fell in love with the boat, that’s clear - but the environment was full of red flags. That’s completely understandable and you kept true to your instincts! Well done, no regrets here 😌
I think you made the right decision Mark :) please keep Yoshi!! He needs you, and you make such a great duo together. I hope you find your next boat very soon. Best of luck!!
Located in Central Florida and run a film/media company and would love to put you up and give you a hand when you get over here. This content is really the reason you stand apart from any other traveler/creator, you're just so honest with your audience and we get to experience the ups/downs with you. Good luck to you and IMHO you don't owe anyone an apology, but a video like this is a really interesting bridge between episodes so keep it up!
The best advice I was ever given - by a music arranger as it happens - was to never fall in love with what you have written. You will not see the faults or bits that don't work, and even if you do, you won't care. Since then I've extended that advice to 'don't fall in love with (insert here)' for the same reasons. It has saved me from some major mistakes.
Thank god for that. Yoshi is actually a symbol for your mental stability and health. Without Yoshi, you really will be alone (which is not good right now). There are plenty of boats out there and Yoshi (the French sea dog) needs to help you work out the next boat.
Absolutely the right decision. That boat would be a real money pit. Don’t look back. The U.K. is going into recession and boat prices are already falling. My suggestion is to get a modest fixer-upper and fix it up, sail it, sell it at a profit and do the same again until you get your dream boat. I hope you get properly better soon.
You made a good decision. With so many good styles besides those you have your heart set on like pilothouses, Ketch, sloops don't limit yourself. Remember you can always get something to fix up and sell to increase your budget for your dream boat down the road. You have to remember sailboat repair videos do really well on YT.

Hey Mark, you made the right call. Find something you can get into sailing condition within your budget. You don't want to end up stuck with a broken boat and no money to fix it.
For what it's worth, I think you made the right decision. Your dream boat can remain a dream for now. In the meantime, work your way up in terms of location, logistics, and near term goals. And who knows, maybe even your dreams will change. I know mine have over the years. Best of luck in your continuing search.

You're a good lad Mark. We're relieved your head has overruled your heart in this situation. Doubt the problem with the engines would have been the only 'gringo payment' situation you'd have had. Nothing to stop you from getting a Tiki 46 in the future. Start with something smaller, closer to home and with Yoshi for now. Hope Swansea was good to you and you had time for a walk on the Gower!
Hard to see now but long term it will be the right decision for you. Definitely a boat you can own in the future. Buying a more local boat will mean you have the support of your family and friends and more financial stability. Good luck 🤞 🙂

Thanks for the update. It did seem like an awesome boat, yet it overwhelmed me…a landlubber. I know that when I turn away from something that’s Very attractive to me at the time, I usually end up with a much better in the long run, because I employed my patience. Much love Mark.
Smart choice. You can find something better, that will not require more work than honestly desired to get sailing. Keep looking and take your time. Rushing to get something may give you more headaches than you need.
My border collie mix Freya says hello to yashi. I think you've made the perfect decision Regarding the boat and your yashi will always be with you with pure unconditional love. Blessings coming at you from the hills of Southern Oregon
Smart choice. The logistics were simply not worth the extra time and money all of which could be better spent elsewhere. "Patience is a virtue", "Good things come to those who wait", etc....Not to worry, there are plenty of other boats out there and right after Xmas will be a good time to look. I'm here in Florida, let me know if I can help. Happy New Year Captain!!!
We were thinking this was going to be a massive project. It was interesting but sometimes following your gut is always good. You are our fave YT channel at the moment mate. See you on Friday.
I think you made the right decision. That boat had issues. And you already said it was beyond your current abilities. All of the successful utube sights seem to have a couple of people working on them. Keep looking your "right " boat will appear.
It's always hard to remove the emotion from these decisions. I think you'll not regret it down the line though. Everyone with a lot of experience offered heartfelt advice and it seemed to be a no go. I'm sure something else will work out for you 🤩
When I saw your post come up saying you were not going to buy the the boat, a little smile came over my face. I think you’ve made the right move it looked a huge project. You’ll get there keep the faith.
I never felt like you were leading us on. I haven't hunted for a boat, but I have hunted for houses and sometimes, even though I was enthusiastic, it just didn't work out. You should be enthusiastic, especially about a boat that you have been dreaming about. I really respect that you let reality guide you in the end.
Just by curiosity, why is it your dream boat? It sounds like you can add structures in the middle, but space in the hulls looks quite cramped compared to other boats. The space you described as potentially your bed in the previous video looked like a tomb to me! I think you made the right decision. Good luck in your search.
I don't get it. Why not a decent sized monohull? Who needs a cat with two masts? Nostalgia? IDK it's your dream a Cat with two masts that is uncomfortable and difficult to handle. Good luck on your quest.
Wharram Cats don't sail close to the wind or tack very well and you have to go outside to get between the two hulls. I would like to see a video on why this is his dream boat.
First, as I tell my children don't ever apologize for your feelings. Because they are your feelings so they can't be wrong. Second, your decision is the only decision that matters. Love the show keep up the good work and like they say it's when you're not looking that you find what you love. Happy New Year!
Let me give you some advice. Buy only a boat dat YOU can handle single handed! That Wharram 46 and boats like it are just to complex to handle. You do not have a fixed shipmate anymore. And you will soon find out that random people you invite to be your shipmate vary wildly in quality, the wost are the ones that oversell themselfs for what ever reason (and they will). That means in practice that there is always a chance of you having to single hand while you train the shipmates you have on board. So make your live easy and buy a boat you can handle alone, that is also more fun when you are not alone
Bless u when u said the no.1 reason not to buy was because of the dog, love ur warm heart and honesty mate. I think ur love if Wharams will manifest soon enough hopefully in a more convenient way!
I certainly agree with your decision,The locals holding the motors for ransom was a game changer.I like what "Sailing Seabird" did in regards to scouring French boatyard for abandoned boats and getting a fixer upper very cheap.
i think you have made the right discission as that boat would be a money pit i would go an have a look at melody and take her on and get more used to open ocean sailing she would be big enough for you and Yoshi. wish you the best of luck!
@@hthring yes so mark would then save a lot more cash to put his tweak's on melody and make it his own and it would be perfect for what his needs are he is still young and has plenty of time to learn more about the open ocean sailing and getting to be a better sailor like we all do
@@hthring Good deal from what i saw is not the case. Over 20K for that boat may be great, but the location and all the supply and work contract or local assistance not to mention the uknown cost of 700 bucks for engines not even on site that were supposed to be part of the sale leaves me with questions about what more has the owner selling the boat has not told mark. The 200 bucks a month for the Dock (Not really a Dock anyway) and living in a shack as well the access is remote makes this all bad and enough to say 20K is just the start and not a good start. He made the right decision and its unfortunate he had to make a costly trip to get answers that are really deal breakers. I feel for the owner of the boat as he obviously is in a bad situation himself looking for a way out. Mark dodged a bullet.
@@TheIndigoEscape Melissa is expecting. Andy, Melissa and Jack came to the conclusion that as wonderful as Melody is, it wouldn't be large enough for a family of four. They obtained a slightly larger boat, which is very suitable for a family of four, and will be putting Melody on the market. They've mentioned a few times that they believe that Mark would be the perfect person to purchase it, and that they would give him a very good deal on it.
So a good call, for once we are all going to support this choice. Find something that moves you and get some comfort/security to put the work into it, good luck, will continue to enjoy following you Chris from Fance (house in Yours next to Nice)
I've become a bit unsure Mark! What motivates you the most? Restore/build a boat? Or Set sail on an adventure? You could buy an affordable boat that is reasonably ready for sailing, and call this part of the "Wildling" series; "Wildlings on a quest to conquer a Wharrham Tiki 46"!
I think he made it pretty clear his interest is a Tiki 46. I did not realize that either until this last video. That boar floated so he could have moved it to say Puerto Rico to work on it. He did not need those engines. He could have probably purchased it without them. The problem is his thinking that the boat is going to be worth $100,000.00. It might be but after investing well North of that. That is not the boat to sail around the world unless you have a lot of money. Each port is going to be far more expensive on that boat. But you are right you need to decide one or the other. Sail around the world, get a 35' or less and go sailing, or buy that boat and work on fixing it up so you get it out of your system, then sell it and hope you recoup your investment.
Totally understand your decision Mark. The last thing you want is to buy a boat and stress about things and suffer with your mental health. The Freedom 35 is a very nice boat. For the size, there is a lot of space below. I’ve never sailed one but I’m sure someone here has as you know they usually have a wishbone rig on or stayed masts or some have junk rig. I so hope you find a boat somewhere closer to home and then Yoshi can be your boat yard doggie. The only way the Tiki 46 would work, IMO, is if you loaded it up with all the gear that comes with it and sailed it out of there or got towed out. Probably not that practical and probably expensive though. Best of luck. Andy UK
we loved the suspense mark, glad you took the easier option, maybe the local wanted money for storage (they were pretty nice looking motors) ? im sure they do see grigos as as potentially an easy money source which is common. i think youll get good video stats for a while just looking at boats, its a popular topic which generates lots of comments/engagement. looking forward to following your adventures - australia
Have you seen Johan's latest boat acquisition on the RAN Sailing channel? I think he paid about $7000-9000 US for that in Sweden and it's pretty sweet. Use that example as a gauge. You and your dog could sail around the world in a similar boat, and that one is almost set to go.
Seriously....there are loads of great, well maintained boats in his budget. I look on yachtbroker and boatshed many times a week (planning/dreaming). For a solo sailor I wouldn't want a 46' cat...would be a nightmare. 30-35ish foot monohull would be ideal. Find one that has been well cared for and with a proven track record. Save yourself a lot of headaches and $.
I just finished rewatching your first search for a sailboat. From the beginning your videos are great. You had such a good process of searching back then and it served you well. I would go back locally and walk the docks & boat yards looking for that diamond in the dust. You are going to find a great boat. Thank you for allowing us to tag along while you take this journey. It is a great adventure. ♡
You were right to go with your heart and head here. I agree with all your negatives, without bashing anyone. I think it would have been very tough to handle the refit there. You'll find your boat. Hang in there.
Phew, the universe has spoken well and has probably saved you Mark from an absolutely nightmare. Your Tiki will come to you one day but until then being pragmatic about the whole thing is probably the best thing. But saying that, you did indeed go out there, and you did give it your passion and sometimes the timing is just out on what the future could be. And because you went to so much effort and we the viewers who have gotten to know you a little from all this, you have NOT lost face but the opposite, I for one greatly admire people who have the bollix to go after something like you did. Stay strong brother, this may have been a wee storm but storms blow out. Mind yourself bro
I think the sailing melody boat is a good fit for you n wouldn't take to much money and time to get you in the water you can take the dog with you and be on adventures family soon it would certainly last you long enough and still be able to release your investment when you are ready to upgrade
I think that was a smart move. Even just the logistics involved would be a nightmare, let alone the cost of supplies and labour. Good luck on the search.
hands up everyone who has just breathed a huge sigh of relief,

Smart choice. The logistics were simply not worth the extra time and money all of which could be better spent elsewhere. "Patience is a virtue", "Good things come to those who wait", etc....Not to worry, there are plenty of other boats out there and right after Xmas will be a good time to look. I'm here in Florida, let me know if I can help. Happy New Year Captain!!!
Good, the number of issues including costs would have been overwhelming. There is a boat waiting for you, I know it. Stay healthy and Happy New Year.
I'm sure something else will work out for you 🤩
Yet again Mark a very honest video. You said it “ you are still young”
Good luck in your search.
i agree, its not a very social boat and either cramped or exposed
I was thinking the same thing it looks cramped and weird layout i don't even think i would want to watch him sailing
I don't get it. Why not a decent sized monohull? Who needs a cat with two masts? Nostalgia? IDK it's your dream a Cat with two masts that is uncomfortable and difficult to handle. Good luck on your quest.
I'd be interested to know as well, this could make for a good short video. Maybe this boat has more of an intrepid Robinson Crusoe appeal
Yes. A crew you don't know is as likely to be a liability as an asset.
Unfortunately perseverance is difficult but your amazing enthusiasm will pay dividends for sure so good luck getting the right boat.
i think you have made the right discission as that boat would be a money pit i would go an have a look at melody and take her on and get more used to open ocean sailing she would be big enough for you and Yoshi. wish you the best of luck!
they did say in latest video they would give mark a very good deal on it ...
@@hthring why are they selling Melody?
@@TheIndigoEscape Melissa is expecting. Andy, Melissa and Jack came to the conclusion that as wonderful as Melody is, it wouldn't be large enough for a family of four. They obtained a slightly larger boat, which is very suitable for a family of four, and will be putting Melody on the market. They've mentioned a few times that they believe that Mark would be the perfect person to purchase it, and that they would give him a very good deal on it.
There's more Tikis in the ocean. Don't give up! You got this. Good luck!!!
So a good call, for once we are all going to support this choice. Find something that moves you and get some comfort/security to put the work into it, good luck, will continue to enjoy following you
Chris from Fance (house in Yours next to Nice)
I reckon that pup loves you. Never give that up.
Thank goodness ❤ that would have been the biggest mistake you would have made. That boat was a mess.
Glad you came to your senses.
Lots of boats here in Florida for cheap, you just have to walk through yards and marinas.
I've become a bit unsure Mark!
What motivates you the most?
Restore/build a boat?
Or
Set sail on an adventure?
You could buy an affordable boat that is reasonably ready for sailing, and call this part of the "Wildling" series; "Wildlings on a quest to conquer a Wharrham Tiki 46"!
Wow,, Was that Statement So Funny...
You made the right decision, good instincts. Keep looking!
Andy UK
Thank goodness. So many alarm bells ringing last week. It wasn't meant to be. The right boat for you, and Yoshie, is out there it will find you.
we loved the suspense mark, glad you took the easier option, maybe the local wanted money for storage (they were pretty nice looking motors) ? im sure they do see grigos as as potentially an easy money source which is common. i think youll get good video stats for a while just looking at boats, its a popular topic which generates lots of comments/engagement. looking forward to following your adventures - australia
You made the right decision. Another door will open. I think something closer to home. Just be open.
Good decision, Wilding wishing you the best in 2023 and maybe a better sv...
You were right to go with your heart and head here. I agree with all your negatives, without bashing anyone. I think it would have been very tough to handle the refit there. You'll find your boat. Hang in there.
Wise decision Mark. Have you thought about taking on Melody?
Ah, should have waited to watch the whole video 😂
Hi Mark ,please give Melody a thought.
Good decision with good thoughtful, reasoning Mark. When the time and boat are right, you will know. Hope you will keep Yoshi as well.
100% curious - What makes this type of boat your dream boat? I"m genuinely interested in why something that seems so "bare bones" is the dream?
Or indeed any specific make and size of boat.
My dream boat too. lol
Sounds like you made the right decision 👍
Good call. You will find the right one no rush. You could do good by Melody and I would feel safer in a steel hull for a world trip.
I think that was a smart move. Even just the logistics involved would be a nightmare, let alone the cost of supplies and labour. Good luck on the search.
