Hi Simon, looking really good now ,love the effect with the stones covered in the static grass really gives a great texture to the embankment,,,looking forward to next years updates ....Happy new year ..
Absolutely fabulous Simon I used to be there all the time in the 80s I also used to get a day rover for wait for it £1.38 😮 and I'd get on at Dewsbury and ride up and down the transpenine route from Leeds to Stalybridge all day long I seem to recall they were hauled by mainly class 40s or peaks happy days indeed 😊 by the way I love your transpenine dmu very handsome trains shame none survived the 6 car sets with buffet car would have been so popular with charter trains 😢
Well I must say came across your channel accidentally and I subscribed a few weeks ago and thankyou from me in australia and I think you do a brilliant job
Just donated via the crowd funding. I'm picking up my 15th MGR wagon tomorrow from Rails (of Sheffield). I think I have a few to go before I catch up with you... We are literally in the middle of moving house to one with a large back garden for my new O garden railway because of these videos so many thanks. Although my wife may think differently!!
18:00 Simon you don't need an earth connected to the baseboard when using a static grass applicator, as most baseboards aren't conductive. Having seen demonstrations by Woodland Scenics, they advocate holding the clip near the applicator as all you are looking to do is create a 'static field', not any sort of electrical continuity. If you think of it as similar to holding a balloon that has been 'charged' near to someone's hair, which then stands on end, that's pretty much what you are trying to achieve with the applicator.
@@britainsbiggestmodelrailwa1428 I would suggest giving it a try on a bit of scrap, as you are obviously getting great results with your current method. It just might be easier/quicker if you haven't got to keep putting in an earthing point as you move along the layout.
When will Heaton Lodge go on tour, I hope you will venture north to Scotland? You get a great effect with the static grass without being too precious about it.
I find it bizarre that this channel has so few subscribers. Its a briliant layout concept with lots of continuity. Let us know how we can push your viewer levels higher. For me, a bit more tech on the electronics would add another area of interest.
I agree with that. The control aspect will be covered next year. I only regularly started doing the videos in August so I think it’ll pick up. I enjoy doing them so it works both ways. Thanks for watching!
I know you're modifying your fiddle yard into a proper marshalling yard but one idea that has occurred to me that you could do, that most could not because of the gradients involved, is to have a fiddle yard under the main scenic area. For instance where the lines branch off and rise up there could be lines under them dropping down to a lower level where the fiddle yard would be, and I'm sure you could come up with somewhere else for them to rise up again.
That’s a good idea Chris I have thought of that in the past. I think with the marshalling yard I’m not going to need a separate fiddle yard anyway (I hope!) Best regards. Simon
@@britainsbiggestmodelrailwa1428 I was thinking of a place to store the passenger trains, whereas the coal/goods trains would not be out of place hanging about around the marshalling yard.
That’s one reason why I’m using mobile carts to extend the layout. In theory I’ll just unclip them and wheel them out of the way. This will let me access the middle of the layout 👍
Check your static grass applicator has a good battery, and it’s a good applicator from a good brand. Also use thick PVA glue and sometimes I use a Vacumn cleaner nozzle passing it over the grass slowly to get it to stand up even more. Hope this helps 👍
Some way off Simon, but how will this be moved (how many people and how long to pack into transport and how long to setup) plus the weather proof marquee. I’ve seen the manpower required for Waterman’s layout and that’s using his “volunteers”, who have built the layout. How are you going to do this. It is an outstanding O gauge layout.
Hi Jim, the layout has already been to 3 exhibitions with 5 articulated trucks. I have a team of 4 people who help dismantle it which takes 2 days. Each of the 150 sections goes onto one of 45 steel trolleys which roll onto the trucks. It works very well in practice. With this extension it simply needs more trolleys! All the best. Simon
Looking forward to seeing more in 2025. Brilliant work Simon, thank you.
Thanks Peter all the best! Simon
Hi Simon, the transformation of the embankment is amazing in literally a few minutes. 👍 Regards, Colin.
Cheers Colin, yes the earth powder works well as it fills in all the gaps too. Thanks for watching

Excellent work and really looking forward to the progress in 2025. Have a great New Year Simon!!
Happy New Year to you Alistair!

Thank you and best wishes to you in 2025!
Simon
Hats off to you Simon it’s such a big undertaking with what you are doing it will look fabulous when it’s finished all the best for the new year 👍
Thanks Paul and all the best to you too for 2025! Simon
I have to say I had my doubts about those pebbles, but not now.
I used the pebbles over the 100 metres of embankments on phase 1 of Heaton Lodge but they do look good still
All the best. Simon
Looking forward to accompanying you on the H.L.Jnc. adventure throughout 2025, Simon; keep up the super work!
Thank you as ever! Happy New Year by the way
Simon
Hi Simon, any chance you can give the 2 58’s a run out
I will once the layout is powered up again. At the moment it isn’t simply because all the new track hasn’t been electrified yet 👍
Nice work Simon. Looking forward to seeing more in 2025.
Happy New Year to you and yours 🎉🎉🎉💜💜💜👍👍👍😊
Thanks. Happy New Year to you too !
@britainsbiggestmodelrailwa1428 👍👍😊😊🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year Simon. Looking forward to seeing all the progress to the layout through 2025.
Thanks and Happy New Year to you too! Simon
Your misses must never see you! A lonely project! Fascinating watch!
She doesn’t much. She seems to come down to the basement more and more! All the best! Simon

Thanks I just saw you had its really appreciated! Best of luck with the house move too 👍
brilliant video and tips - I have complete layout and space envy
Thank you you’d be welcome to come and see it once this new big is complete. Best regards. Simon

Ah fair enough I always thought you needed an earth in the glue you are using. Cheers, good advice 👍

Definitely 2026 and I will come to Scotland for sure with it 👍

That's a mighty impressive layout. 1 question but, how do you reach in 6 feet if you need to get to a loco or wagon?
That’s one reason why I’m using mobile carts to extend the layout.

Why change era's ? (Ok yes you explained why ) but why not mix and match ?
I might mix and match yet it’s a good idea - have different days for the ‘80’s etc 👍
