Coy’s point at 39:35 is absolutely spot on about Gen Z audiences and Marvel having to age up their material - they need to keep their longtime fans loyal and on side and the only way they can do that is by keeping their interest and producing more mature material that is of a good quality (hopefully Echo, Deadpool 3, Daredevil BA, Blade will be examples of this).

Why does Marvel think that people only respond to characters in their specific demographic? Young people and women were already onboard for the OG characters in the golden era. The more you try to microtarget specific parts of the audience, the more you fail more often than not. Their movies used to appeal to everyone and they made bank.

Honestly the Young Avengers skepticism feels rooted in the word YOUNG, Ive seen so many people dismiss the idea without knowing anything about the team or their stories. The entire Young Avengers arc also involves the actual Avengers as well so Ive never been trepidatious about the concept as a film.

@@babytoshiro7014 Yes, many people didn’t read it and that accounts for most people not reading comics in general. The Young Avengers literally involve the Avengers and one of the characters as a reveal being a young Kang who went back in time where he doesn’t want to become the conqueror makes perfect sense for a movie if it was all planned. Allan Heinberg didn’t give up on it and his original run of 12 issues was great. His sequel with the Children’s Crusade was very good and then the Guillen and McKelvie was great too. It was just meant to be a 12 issue limited series originally where the Children’s Crusade was never part of the plan. It was the first comic Heinberg wrote and he wasn’t getting an ongoing where he said after the 12 issues came out what the plan was.

Regarding the "young avengers". People have to care about the characters... Other than very small parts of the internet and fandom, the masses (who are needed to make a large budgeted movie a success) just don't care about these characters. Nothing to do with "wokeness" or "politics".
Marvel is in danger as a brand (just like star wars) because its main fans are getting older and younger generations aren't into it like older fans were at the same age (in raw numbers).
Its tricky... Do you alienate your reliable fanbase to chase a younger one... Who doesn't have the same brand loyalty as the "old" fans? And increasingly more and more I.P is doing this to mixed results at the very best.

They are gearing to an audience that doesn’t watch it. All of us actual paying audience are getting ignored. It’s a dumb idea that will flop even if they are introduced over time.
Disney has an overall problem of forgetting who their actual audience is. They did it with animation, ignoring parents. With Star Wars, killing legacy characters & bad scripts and now with marvel. Disney have no idea how to actually give their buying customers what they want anymore. Bunch of D list characters who mostly had piss poor introductions and the majority of them on D+ at that. Not to mention the concept is first brought up in the biggest MCU bomb of all time. How tf can they think that would work? The MCU now reminds me of the 2015 All New All Different era in the comics when they tried to force feed readers things they didn't want and failed. Why are they trying to emulate that disaster?

Out of those 7, only two are super fans of Marvel and they didn't go see the Marvels because they just didn't feel like it was worth a trip to the theatre because they did not expect it to be good based off of what they had read online about it and in discussing it with friends. I understand the controversy surrounding such a thing and I understand that everyone behind the scenes was grieving but I will die on this hill saying that Yahya Abdul Mateen should have taken on the character of T’Challa after Chadwick Boseman died. That’s a role that is worthy of his talents as an actor. He’s been wasted in these Aquaman films as Black Manta. Everyone harped on the idea that recasting would be unfair to a new actor, which I think is silly because any lead role on that scale is a difficult undertaking but between Watchmen and other performances Mateen himself is a super star talent worthy of a role like Black Panther. Hearing he’s wasted even more is heartbreaking.

8:45 Tell that to Israel Winston. 20,000 dead. 8,000 of them children.
I liked Hawkeye. It's actually one of my favorites of the MCU shows. Let's not suddenly retroactively re-write the narrative just because recent entries have been mediocre.
29:51 I don't think there should be a Young Avengers. I think Kate Bishop and Ms Marvel (don't really care about anyone else) should be integrated into the main Avengers team alongside the older characters. It'll give audiences an opportunity to endear themselves to them since you already have a greater chance of people watching an Avengers movie than some kids that are just derivative of already established characters
46:40 I disagree that it's too late for them to change course on the multiverse. All they would need to do is drop the multiverse as a saga and just relegate it to a storyline within a Doctor Strange movie. The next Doctor Strange could be a Civil War type event with several heroes teaming up to fix the incursions and fixing the MCU main 616 storyline.. They then can retool the main Saga storyline with other characters - The Avengers, FF, Spider-Man facing an MCU focused villian like Galactus, Doom etc.
They need to drop the multiverse. It's just nostalgia bait nonsense that has been nothing more than an excuse to drop in has-been characters/actors from old Marvel movies. This has broken the MCU's narrative and forward momentum. I don't care about the multiverse. Never have and now that they potentially won't be recasting Kang, it's time to move away from it for the sake of the MCU's survival. Thanos and the Infinity Stones worked because we had a easy to follow storyline. The multiverse is a mess.

I don’t mind Young Avengers but it has to be 4-5 years from now. Marvel has all these characters that frankly I like but they’re just there and I would like to see what their status is. What are they doing? How they contributing to greater MCU. They need to do something with those characters.

Marvel has missed multiple opportunities to 'reset' after the conclusion of End Game and it's too bad. Even with the end of No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness along with Loki season 2, I was so ready to have a completely new 'reality' start. Instead, we're mainly getting movies for no one and a complete lack of 'epic storytelling'.

One of the core characters is Iron Lad who went back in time and is revealed to be a young Kang who doesn’t want to be the conqueror of the future. It’s a story that is literally for adults and the sequel involves Billy and Teddy trying to find Scarlet Witch.

jesus thank you, a professional non fan boy unbiased other than the basic level of love necesssary to create a comic/comic movie talk show, talk show. this is dope and I will be honest I have skipped over these thumbnails for a good while and this is my first time viewing. i think its hilarious that you are all sayin what I have been feeling for quite sum time about many comic movies. to me literally the spiderverse movies are the only thing killing the entertainment industry in the best ways possible. i have always said these things should be kept to an animated world and simply modernized personality and technology wise. i do feel most of the pieces are to highly scrutinized by picky fans. which is why i always simplify all of it by this categorization, is it simply entertaining. is it making me feel the script the way the comics do? only spiderverse scores are doing that. i smile i laugh i feel the scenes. these early spiderverse movies are revving things up so i dont put them to the flame right away. i give them ample time to work up to the crescendo that is at the heart of any and all series'. grown ups that are jus unhappy with most things cannot be the only scope used to look at this genre in the entertainment world. always use that same childish viewpoint. does it make me think and feel and want to become that character if even for a moment. the live action super hero genre in general is bothersome to me. dceu corp got rid of the rock as black adam womp womp then henry cavill is gone too? ok so all strong men are being removed from the super hero world in the live action version which is hilariously contradictory to what a super hero is and should be. imo the live action category is pretty trashy in general. black adam was sick but a little lackluster. i value your work and efforts gentlemen and wholeheartedly endorse your claims and reasonings my good sirs.

I quite enjoyed the movie for my part, I went in with no expectations and knew what kind of movie I was facing having watch the first one.
It's clear WB had been trying to go after the MCU crowd with their last set of DCEU movies, the movie is on par with the rest by being ligth-hearted, comedic, action pack and no major stake at its core.
I genuinely liked everything about the movie except for Jason Momoa who looked like he wasn't even trying to act anymore, the guy looked lazy and had way too much fun in this one.. for some reason I didn't believe him as Aquaman anymore but a fraud. Patrick Wilson however was the highlight and had way more gravitas.
Also the world building is still pretty well don and couldn't help but seeing under-water Star Wars, especially in the haven pirate scene.
