      If you think these are slow, you must have never driven a 7th gen LOL. I have a stock 1997 LX automatic sedan non VTEC (the absolute slowest version) and it would probably hang with my 05 5 speed VTEC with full bolt on's.

      @@averyalexander2303 Guy, they make no torque no matter where you are in the power band. You might be able to wring out a 7 second 0-60 time from them but no matter how you slice it with the D-series, these cars are dogs.

      @averyalexander2303 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@louiei.1552 They aren't race cars from the factory, that's for sure. However, ~7 second 0-60's have been done with stock non Si 6th gens, which is darn respectable for a 90's economy car. That's on par with a V6 Camaro and faster than a V6 Mustang.

    • @louiei.1552
      @louiei.1552 10 месяцев назад

      @@averyalexander2303the fastest I've personally seen is a 7.6, on a blue moon, when the planets align. (aka perfect weather conditions, straight road, good pavement, and an excellent launch.) This isnt a perfect world though. 95% of the time theyre usually about 8.5-9.0s 0-60. another issue is the second you shift into 3rd, the v6 mustang (which are also hilariously slow,) whips your ass because you make 96 ft/lbs of torque.

      @@louiei.1552 I saw a stock 6th gen EX do 0-60 in I believe 7.3 seconds on one video, but I don't remember which one. Either way, regardless of +/- a few tenths of a second, my point was simply that these 6th gens aren't terribly slow and actually perform respectably for what they are.

That was one of my dream cars once I got my license, but it was too expensive to get because it was brand new at the time msrp is like 16k at the time so it made me settle for the 1995 one instead, sedan style. My high school girlfriend's car was a 1996 Civic DX hatchback. It had the wheels from the EX (and I'm surprised this has steelies and hubcaps instead of alloy wheels) and the teenager who briefly owned it before her had tried and failed to replace the radio, so it stuck out a little bit from the dash. All that said, it never let her down. We drove it from Fort Myers to Kansas City and back. She even got in a wreck with it when someone made a left turn in front of her, and she was unscathed. Sure, it felt a little like a wind-up toy when you floored it trying to get on the interstate, but it would cruise along at 90 in the HOV lane through Atlanta -- not that I would know anything about that, of course.

  • @wavecentral

    Bought an EK Civic back in the 90s. It was a milano red VTiR hatch with the full fat VTEC engine and power everything. 5-speed manual was short geared so it was pretty buzzy on the freeway, but it would rev to 8,000 (and beyond) all day. Despite my younger self driving it like an F1 car it never missed a beat. Damn I miss that car.

    The family car i grew up with was very close to this, a dark green 99 civic LX Sedan. I loved that car but sadly i never got the chance to drive it as it got stolen right before i had started drivers training.😭 i have alot of memories in that car tho, the rear passeneger window was covered in those old in-n-out stickers, and the paint had all those white splotches from years of sitting in the sun. I also had ripped off the "civic" emblem from the trunk, which i still have to this day, and is like such an important object even though its just a piece of plastic. Aghhh Thank you for reminding me of that car! ❤

    I drove my '98 EJ8 for 17 years and 242,000 miles. I reviewed it on my channel several years ago. Compared with my current FG3, the automatic transmission on the EJ was a MUCH more enjoyable experience than the CVT in the FG. AS WELL AS THE STEERING. The steering in the FG feels totally disconnected from the wheels (because it is, I know). I never got into Pandora or the whole streaming thing, I was still rockin my cassettes in the EJ all the way through 2015

    The end of your final thoughts had me getting emotional. My mom had this same Civic but as a Sedan in gold. She had purchased it before I was born and I practically grew up in it’s back seat until she crashed it in an attempt to avoid being hit by someone who ran a red light at an intersection in 2012. That shut up and listen part really took me back in time to the early 2000/10’s going to school and traveling all over the place in it.

    Early 00s Hondas, particularly unmodified ones in good shape, are a rare sight. These were cheap cars and most got riced out and driven into the ground. They're not fast, they're not fancy, the suspension and exhaust tend to break, but the engines and bodies last forever. I don't think I've ever seen a rusty Honda.
    My 11th grade math teacher had a blue one with a stick. I remember him being surprised that I when I told him that my manual car doesn't have a tachometer. I was so used to shifting by ear that I didn't see how he would need a gauge to tell him when to shift.
    Everything is known to the state of California to cause cancer. The other 49 states don't know anything, apparently.

We ended up just over a year later with a new Cavalier LS coupe. But that was more of a "we got a smoking deal on the Chevy" than what we WANTED. If you squint and have an activie imagination = look, it's a 3 series :) Unfortunatley it was just too much = Honda was charging a probably deserved premium and the deaker was tacking on even more - we just couldn't swing that with everything else. If there's a takeaway, always remember when you were young and scrambling, somehow those days were sweeter. (Indeed as the same person told me while were heading toward splitsville "Remember when we were poor, we were so happy" Yeah.)

    2nd best car I've owned and I don't plan on selling even when I get something newer. It's fun and doesn't really feel cheap. This car has taught me how to heel-toe downshift, and the handling despite the comfortable stock suspension is about as nimble as I want on the road. Give these old D series a tuneup and they get their vtec voice back, and acceleration is fun in 2nd gear. The powerband is surprisingly flexible for 1.6. 30mpg in town! The window regulators are an issue.
    If you are like me and run your own race, this is the driver's car for you. You'll pass that WRX who just dusted you at the next gas station

I have a feeling it's worth more than that but it's just such a wonderful car to drive it literally just feels like a time capsule because it's like brand new and it drives just like new. But it's very stressful to drive and worry about scratches and stuff because it's such a beautiful car. I'm used to beaters that I don't care about lol. So this car can be very stressful to drive.

I never drove this era or iteration of the Civic but I felt like I have seen one on the roads at least 1 million times cumulatively. I love the simply clean look of these cars and that is represented with their driving and handling style too... no fuss.. just simple and pure driving. I still do them but only on cars where acceleration really matters. Speed wasn’t the point of this 2000 civic. But the car in tomorrow’s video, it does!

    A friend of mine has a 2001, the next gen, EM2 Coupe, is definitely a more mature car and better quality in general, but at the same time is boring to drive.

    Honestly I miss cloth seats ... Most modern(post 2005) cars seem to come with leather or some bs leather alternative.

    If that came with the car, I'm surprised it has the cd player. Unless it's because it is the EX option. The 2000 Camry my family had came with a cassette player. Nice cars of course.. Maybe a decade ago, a friend (who always reminds me his family is loaded) got a Volvo with a cassette player. So it was fun trolling him by finding an audio cassette from my parents basement to sneak into the player when he wasn't looking.. which surprisingly the music blended well enough into the background as we drove.

      A CD player is believable if it's an EX. Our 01 'Odyssey EX has a CD player. LX models did not.

    A well kept Civic with no damage, all original, and with very low miles? Diamond in the rough.
